Leonard Cohen is informing the reader that Adolf Eichmann appears just like everyone else. According to Stanza 2, line 1-5, which says “What did you expect? Talons? Oversized incisors? Green saliva? Madness?”  The author takes things that would be seen as monstrous and savage, and tells the reader that even though he doesn't have those elements, he is still savage. This shows that there are no visual cues to indicate that Adolf Eichmann was savage.

Oversize incisors? According to stanza 2, the author is questioning what he sees, he doesn't believe that Adolf is regular he wants to believe he has some type of savagery behavior. The author believes every innocent person has some savagery behavior.
