i read the book speak by laurie halse anderson. this book is very interesting, and has many secrets and mysteries that are rev
ealed later on in the novel. for example, the main character, melinda, has been raped at a party when she was drunk and is haunted by it ever since then. she speaks to nobody about it. we later realize what was haunting her when she revealed it to us during the middle of the novel. also, it goes into the mind of an introverted teenager who has trouble finding herself, gets bullied, has no friends, cant talk to anybody about her depression and social anxiety. it expresses her specific thoughts, pessimistic tone and morbid humor throughout the entirety of the novel.

The Troublesome Boy is written in a very intriguing manner, one that you don't see in many books. Although it is written in the perspective of only one character, it almost feels like the author has written the book in several perspectives. The plot is definitely unique, and not something you see in every other book. This novel is dark and gloomy but also makes you appreciate exactly what you have. Overall I definitely recommend this novel to anyone in high school.

When he gets caught she has mixed feelings about what she must do. This book is basically supposedly a letter to her kidnapper in which she adresses her mixed feelings.

Cinder is a wonderful novel for those who enjoy reading about a different kind of world filled with robots, royalty, villains and female heroes with powers. I loved reading this book because of how great of an author Meyer is and the cute, innocent flirtation between the main characters (I admit I am a romantic). However, not only is this book written with romance involved, but it is also filled with many twists and turns that that readers will not see coming. I hope everyone enjoys reading this book.

I really like this book because it teaches you a lot on how to survive in life by comparing it to the world of Minecraft. which is an actual game in real life. but every chapter in this book had a life lesson or moral as its title. like "panic drowns thought" or "friends keep you sane" or "too much confidence can be as dangerous as having none at all". this book was about surviving in a strange world. so it gave some life lessons about surviving in life. that is why i think this book is a masterpiece

Although the second half of the book is about the same characters as adults, the past experiences define who they are in that time period. Overall, this book may seem to be long, but it is worth the time mainly because of the amazing mystery and suspense that is developed in the book. The maze throws so many challenges at the people exploring it, that seem impossible, and the maze shows developing perserverance in the people as they don't give up easily. I also like how the maze is looked as a trap as the people in the maze are being watched by peopleworkign fr an organization, but it is the only thing protecting them from a contagious flare virus that decimated the vast majority of the planet, which was caused by a sun flare.

This book is about a high-school girl named Lara Jean who wrote five letters to boys that she had loved and shared connections with. These letters were for her own imagination, but one day they got out and that lead her to finding out who she really loves. The letters got her life messed up, but she discovered who she was and figured out who she wanted to be with. Overall, I definitely recommend this book because it's an addictive and expressive book that has many real life connections.

Cinder is a sixteen year old gifted mechanic and a cyborg with a mysterious past. Soon enough her life is intertwined with Prince Kai and an intergalactic war all while her sister is on the brink of death. I definitely recommend this book because even though it is set in the future you could still relate to the main character and her struggles. If you are interested in sci-fi then this fairytale dystopian book is perfect.

The Gulag Archipelago - An Experiment in Literary Investigation (Volumes I-III)

By Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn

Aleksandr Solzhenitsyn's 'Gulag Archipelago', a nonfictional first-hand account of the horrors of the brutal police state (under the NKVD) of the Soviet Union. This book goes into depth of the terrifying Gulag systems, and what each prisoner went through. This literary masterpiece sheds light on the most brutal event in the 20th century - one that has been successfully, and almost perfectly, covered up by the USSR.

Solzhenitsyn has a unique writing style, which makes him very unique in the realm of nonfiction authors. He also recalls hundreds of stories of other survivors and prisoners of the Gulag system, showing the readers each one of their stories. All in all, this book reveals the true extent of psychological and physical horrors that were inflicted upon millions of prisoners throughout the entire reign of the USSR.

This book is one I would heavily suggest. It is a bit difficult to read: I, personally, would suggest to take your time and actually think about what is being said. It encompasses a massive load of information - and is definitely one of my favourite nonfiction books of all time. Below, I have attached a playlist for the audiobook of The Gulag Archipelago:

https://youtube.com/playlist?list=PLjAs0mUEOFJdMYgMIrIyZd3abH0I7lJAO

- Shlok Ganguly

By Fyodor Dostoevsky

Crime and Punishment follows the tale of Rodion Raskolnikov, and he struggles to survive in the hostile world of 18th century Russia. He is soon driven to desperation, where he intends to murder a pawnbroken, Lizaveta. This event has a lasting psychological impact on the young Raskolnikov, as post-murder Raskolnikov is quite different from who he used to be.

Crime and Punishment is regarded as one of the first psychological thrillers in the world. It is a fascinating story, and one I would definitely recommend.

Dostoevsky is hard to read. He does not construct straw-men of his opposition when discussing topics (unlike Plato), nor does he settle on easy answers. Dostoevsky is an author that makes you really think, and that is one of the reasons I find Crime & Punishment to be such a great book.

- Shlok Ganguly
