First of all, recycling costs a lot of cash, takes energy, and water. According to NewsELA article, "PRO/CON: Should the U.S. scrap the recycling program?" the text states, "Paper mills pay for the trees they process. If it was cost-effective to recycle scrap paper, paper companies would be beating down your door to buy it — but they aren’t. That means it’s more expensive and takes more energy and water to recycle old paper than to cut down and process pine trees and then plant pine seedlings." This is important to consider because we are creating problems for our environment. At the same time, we are just recycling garbage.

Did you know that most Americans don't recycle because of their habits? Did you that Americans generated 254 million tons of waste in 2013. Americans only recycled 87 million tons of their waste. If you do the math Americans only recycle 34.3% of their waste/trash. This is clearly not what we need to produce a profit. According to USA today recycling plantation workers have to sort through items that aren't even recyclable. Such as garden hoses. Plantation workers have to get garden hoses out of their filtering machine which causes the plantation to go onto shut down until they can clear their filtering machine. Plantation worker get Styrofoam cups and objects all the time which is clearly not recyclable which forces the workers to waste more time cleaning up our mess and not recycling. Plantation workers have even found a screen door on the conveyor belt. The recycling industry is losing money and fast. Have you noticed that the recycling industry is not making any profit. It takes money to turn on the machines and recycle our waste. Did you know that the recycling company is not making money recycling. They don't have enough people recycling. It seems like the recycling company itself is giving up on recycling.

More importantly, recycling plastic bottles is better than recycling glass bottles. If recycling was truly cost-effective, companies would be lined up at your doorstep to buy your trash and make money from it. According to, " PRO/CON: Should the U.S. scrap the recycling program?" it states that ," recycling plastic would make make the environment a better place and would help because glass can break but plastic wouldn't."

More importantly, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency states that it only make sense economically and environmentally to recycle about 35 percent of our trash. Based on the NewsELA article "PRO/CON: Should the U.S. scrap the recycling program?" it states, "Recycling 1 ton of paper or aluminum cans, the agency says, can save about 3 tons of carbon dioxide emissions over producing new materials. Carbon dioxide is produced during the recycling process and can lead to climate change. A ton equals 2,000 pounds."

People are recycling these days, but later the cost of recycling almost outweighs the benefits. For example, even if we save about a ton of carbon dioxide, it doesn’t take into account the water most consumers use to rinse their plastic containers before they put them into a recycling bin.
