His pet hands him his hat after they eat breakfast and he heads out. He applied for many jobs but was denied. He sees a man ticking bills and he decided to ask him for a job and luckily he got it! As he begins work the Boss has noticed the bills were upside down and fired him. The man goes out to look for another job and becomes a delivery man but ended up going to a house with a very large animal and things didn’t go so well .. so he then begins to work in a factory. It’s many people like him in this factory so he fits in very well. He meets an old man who also works at their factory and they have a toast. They begin to talk and the old man has a flashback of him being a young soldier and how the battle he fought in was so devastating. They both clocked out and took a walk with each other. They see one of the old mans friend and then he introduces his new friend to his friends and the men shake hands also becoming friends. This reminds me of “The Absolutely True Diary of a Part Time Indian” where Junior explains his close relationship with his dog that did everything with him up until he was too sick. 
In the book the man goes around the town to seek work. He is denied and has trouble finding a job until he finds a job working at a factory. This reminds me of the book “Working in the Shadows” because in that book the main character is unable to find a job due to lack of legal documents. He gets stuck working jobs that nobody wants and require high levels of physical work like cutting cabbage and trying to capture loose chickens. 
Towards the middle of the chapter, the man finds a new job as a delivery man and has a duty to take a package to the mail when a big beast pops out and scares him away. This reminds me of Shrek. It becomes clear that he is looking for a job. The first three he gets shut down for some reason. Feeling defeated he sits on a bench and he looks to his left to se a man putting out papers. They have a little chat and the paper man lets him work. The paper man returns only to see the Protagonist putting  it backwards I believe he gets fired and than he meets  a woman and went into  delivering mail it was going good until he got frightened  by a big Monster and ran away. We next see him in a factory with a lot of people putting stuff together. He Starts to talk to the old man across from him and the old man  starts to tell a story about how he went to war fighting as a soldier. In the battle he had lost his leg and went home to find out that there was nothing left. In the real world Animals look all over/hunt for food to survive and to also feed their babies. Like many immigrants do the man is writing a letter , probably to his family, and sending money off to make sure they are financially stable. Many people in the real world come to new places for better job opportunities to provide for their family and in the mean time while being away they will write to the family to hear from them. In the book they have a place where you can drop your mail off at just like we do! After months of waiting for an response he finally gets one and he is overfilled with joy and happiness.. he then goes out meet his family once again. In real life many immigrants waits for responses from family in a different country for weeks, months, or even years. But when they receive a respond back they are very happy. There is one picture where the man is making a paper bird and writing a letter, we can infer that this is for his daughter because the bird is recurring and usually his way of giving her sentimental letters. He is also seen putting money in this letter. We assume he made the money working and it is for his wife and daughter to survive in the older country. On the next page there is a picture of him asking an older woman a question and points in a direction. The picture after that we see him putting his paper bird/letter inside. The mysterious box looks like a postal service. After that we see a picture of the man walking alone, we can’t see if he is going home or to work but he looks very casual. The picture of the plant disintegrating tells that the weather might be changing but we don’t know in what way. After that there is a picture where the same plant is seen blooming so we see that there is a summer or spring. The plant also is seen in another picture were it is covering itself in frost so there was also a winter. We can assume that it has now been a year.  The picture after that is on two pages and it is a factory, this could possibly be the factory the man is still working at for the past year. Then we see a picture of the man running out into the city. He seems to be calling out for someone. The picture of the coffee over the newspaper show that the family has built a routine and is used to this new place.
2. The picture of the dad placing a coin into his daughters hands means he is becoming financially successful enough to do that and is trusting her.
3. There are before and after pictures of the old and new homes’ decorations which signifying growth and new meanings to new things.
4. The image of the family sitting together at the dinner table seems to represent when the father is explaining the new changes and differences of the New World.
5. This image of the parents packing up is a before scene of when the man left and it resembles their sad emotions that have now changed.
6. The daughter petting the preacher signifies her becoming accustomed to the new and “weird” changes.
7. The daughter going to the store to get things shows her comfort and ability to learn.
8. The image of the daughter helping a woman that is lost represent both her ability to integrate and socialize.

This seems to be tied with when people go to new countries to live in and they make it like home. In the novel “The Dead and The Gone” by Susan Pfeffer the family came from Puerto Rico and they settled down and made the United States their home. The next pages show the little girl going out into the city alone with her pet. This reminds me of Dora the Explorer when she when out exploring new places with Boots. On the very last page of the book there is a girl who seems to be older and she is getting directions from the younger girl. In “The Alchemist” by Paulo Coelho there are many times where we see our main character have to ask for directions in new countries in search for his personal legend.
