Billy believes aliens from Tralfamadore abducted him. Their big eyes allow them to see in the four dimensions, instead of three like humans. Billy prescribed lenses and since he spent so much time with the Tralfamadorians, he realized human souls are lost and wretched. Their souls were lost and wretched because they couldn't see in as many dimensions as the aliens. His trips to Tralfamadore weren't real but they were a result of the plane crash he got into that screwed up his mind. He just thinks he knew of it beforehand and that mentioning it wasn't a good idea. Billy accepts the Tralfamadorians belief on death which could explain his coping mechanism with all the tragedies he has gone through. This allows him to go through life not worrying about death and that it's all the same by saying "so it goes."

In the beginning of the book, Mary O'Hare gets so angry that he was writing a war novel. She said babies were fighting in wars; she believed the wars were encouraged by books and movies. Because movies and books portray war differently than it actually is sometimes, children want to go to war to become the heroes they read about. Do you agree with Mary O'Hare that wars are partly encouraged by books or movies on war, that younger kids want to join the war because of what they see and hear?

I chose a plane crash because I believe this is the final push that sent Billy’s life into a downhill spiral. After the crash Billy was trying to recover, physically and mentally. Life was a struggle for him. And as he struggled to make things even worse, his wife died, ironically, in a crash. All he had left was his kids but, his kids never had him again. He was never the same. It got to the point where his daughter question the sanity of her father. Surviving a plane crash would be a happy moment for most people but, to Billy, it ruined his life.

In the part of the story when Billy is a POW along with Weary who was supposed to be his ally a very stressful time in their lives. They fought in the war together and were captured together. When they were put in the boxcars and transferred to another POW camp I got really confused. A lot of people died and Weary was one of them. But, right before he died he told everyone in the car that if he died it would be Billy who was at fault. Why did he blame Billy? I thought they were on each other’s sides.

He was being held a prisoner of war and was taken underground into a former slaughterhouse with his fellow prisoners that provided the shelter to survive the allied bombings of Dresden.

When Billy Pilgrim survives the plane crash and says he was abducted by aliens his daughter Barbara took the responsibility of taking care of him. The way she was treating Billy was disrespectful and she was making him feel even more helpless than he had as a war prisoner. Why would Barbara treat her father like that when she knows all he has been through?
