They will classify and represent different types of matter, distinguishing between physical and chemical changes. Additionally, they will analyse how different factors influence the development of and lead to changes in scientific knowledge. They will also consider the key aspects that inform scientific responses and how these responses impact society, analysing the importance of science communication in shaping viewpoints, policies, and regulations.</p><p>In practical work, students will plan and conduct safe, reproducible investigations to test relationships and explore models. They will describe potential ethical issues and intercultural considerations needed for specific field locations or the use of secondary data. Students will select and use equipment to generate and record data with precision. They will select and construct appropriate representations to organise and process data and information.</p><p>Students will analyse data and information to describe patterns, trends, and relationships, and identify anomalies. They will identify assumptions and sources of error in methods and analyse conclusions and claims with reference to conflicting evidence and unanswered questions. They will construct evidence-based arguments to support conclusions and evaluate claims. Let's delve into each level:</p><ol><li><p><strong>Substitution</strong>: At this level, technology is used as a direct substitute for a traditional tool without significant change in the task. For example, using a word processor instead of handwriting assignments. While this may offer some benefits such as legibility, it doesn't fundamentally change the learning experience.</p></li><li><p><strong>Augmentation</strong>: Technology enhances the task compared to its traditional counterpart. There's still no significant change in the task, but technology provides improvements in efficiency or functionality. An example could be using spell check or grammar check features in a word processor. It adds value to the task but doesn't fundamentally alter it.</p></li><li><p><strong>Modification</strong>: Here, technology allows for significant task redesign. The task itself is altered, allowing for new possibilities that were previously inconceivable without technology. For instance, collaborative editing in real-time using Google Docs enables students to work together seamlessly, changing how they interact with the task and with each other.</p></li><li><p><strong>Redefinition</strong>: This is the highest level of technology integration according to SAMR. At this level, technology enables the creation of entirely new tasks that were previously inconceivable. It opens doors to transformative learning experiences. An example could be students using virtual reality simulations to explore historical events, providing immersive and interactive experiences that go beyond traditional learning methods.</p></li></ol><p>In essence, the SAMR model encourages educators to move beyond merely using technology as a substitution for traditional methods.
