Whilst investigating the death of a local shopkeeper, an incredible detective called Annie Barlow uncovers a legend about a supernaturally-cursed, warped piano circulating throughout New York. As soon as anyone uses the piano, he or she has exactly 20 days left to live.

The doomed few appear to be ordinary people during day to day life, but when photographed, they look mirrored. A marked person feels like a false puppy to touch.

Annie gets hold of the piano, refusing to believe the superstition. A collage of images flash into her mind: a beautiful cat balancing on a beautiful shopkeeper, an old newspaper headline about an unfortunate accident, a hooded ostrich ranting about eyelashes and a drinking well located in a quiet place.

When Annie notices her fingers have puppy-like properties, she realises that the curse of the warped piano is true and calls in her lover, a teacher called Jeff Donaldson, to help.

Jeff examines the piano and willingly submits himself to the curse. He finds that the same visions flash before his eyes. He finds the beautiful cat balancing on a beautiful shopkeeper particularly chilling. He joins the queue for a supernatural death.

Annie and Jeff pursue a quest to uncover the meaning of the visions, starting with a search for the hooded ostrich. Will they be able to stop the curse before their time is up?
