2. How do these roles influence the style of their writing?
- The role a writer is taking plays a huge part in the style of the writing. The purpose of the writing influences the structure, tone, language, and style. If the writer needs to persuade an audience in the direction he wants, he will need to use a different approach than a writer who is writing a case study. The writer needs to change their style of writing to fit and relate to the audience.

3. What do YOU need to do if you need to understand different styles adopted when reaching out to different communities?
-  To understand different styles of writing to certain audiences I would first need to access the structure of the text. Then, I would need to assess the purpose and goal of the writer and what kind of tone and language they are choosing to deliver it in. These attributes would help me understand the different styles used by writers for different audiences.

The genre I chose to analyze is online periodicals, specifically website articles. These articles are posted periodically to their designated websites and all of my samples focus on the same topic - ballet. The audience or discourse community for this genre would be anyone who has access to the internet. Online articles are usually more convenient and accessible to most people, because once they are on the internet they stay there. Physical periodicals would be different because you might lose it, or not even be able to get it once it’s published. More specifically, because these online articles are about ballet, the audience might be narrowed down to people within the dance community who have access to the internet. Online periodicals consist of digital journals, newspapers, magazines, articles, or blogs. In this case, the genre I am focusing on is online articles.

The purpose of online periodicals is to publish news or writing in general, regularly. This genre of writing has many benefits which is why most writers create online versions of their publications. Having an online article gives the writer the benefit of potentially reaching a wider audience rather than just print publications. Online periodicals also give the option to use graphics, for example videos or audios. These benefits help this genre give the reader a more immersive experience and it could help them understand and comprehend the writing better overall.  

My approach to selecting these 5 articles was to first look up the history and evolution of ballet. Already knowing prior to writing this analysis I knew that ballet had dated all the way back to the Italian Renaissance. To find the best articles I thought - including not just the history but the evolution of ballet was important based on the amount of time it has been since it first originated. Next, I made sure to select reliable sources coming from ballet companies, ballet organizations, universities, and well established dance businesses. After reading and analyzing each article I felt that I fully grasped what ballet is, where and when it came from, and all the evolutions and changes it has made throughout its history. 

The first article [1] I found on the internet discusses what ballet is traditionally known for, codified technique and a series of steps, but asks the question of “where is the place for innovation in Ballet?”. This article asks many questions of the reader and provides lots of graphics from different sources to make the idea of the text easier to visualize. It then uses bullet points and lists to explain how ballet has evolved over the centuries and what different styles came up during its long and glorious history. Second, is article [2] written by Masterclass, a well established and reliable dance/arts business. This sample discusses exactly what it says in the title, the history and origins of ballet. This sample is similar to [1] in a sense that they both use bullet points and lists, however this text uses it to list types of ballet and the most famous ballets. My third article [3], written and published by the well-known Australian Ballet. “Combining dance, music and song, the earliest ballets were enactments of events from mythology, heavy on gods and heroes, and featuring wildly fantastical costumes and masks”, (Lehmann, 2020), [3]. Then comes an article written by an established dance academy, [4]. This sample focuses more on the history of ballet and is written in separate sections talking about each important chapter in ballet’s history, written in chronological order. Lastly, [5] written by Willa Cather and published by The Willa Cather Archive discusses something a little bit different, talking about how the training for ballet has evolved over centuries and how it differs around the world. This text doesn’t use subheadings like the other samples do, but still utilizes photos and goes in chronological order describing the history of training for ballet. The discourse community for this genre would be dancers, specifically ballet dancers, but also anyone within the dance community. Ballet is just one of hundreds of styles of dance, others include folk dance, jazz, tap, modern, lyrical, ballroom, and hip-hop.

- Today literacy is more than -  a single notion that only embeds strongly, formalized, monolingual, and prescriptive written forms of communication.

- Broad plural literacy is - understanding of literacies that both embed diversity of text forms and multiple forms of meaning making in these forms.

2.New literacies are new ways to share literacy through different presentations by gaining new information and developing technology that give us new ideas.
