The children of all ages were very engaged in every step of the process.

Time: 9:30am to 10:30am

Setting: outdoor backyard

Weather: warm and sunny

Materials: Mini basketball hoop, children sized basketballs, and cars trunks.

To make some changes to support children outdoor play. My assistant and I added extra materials like table, chairs and books. Also we invited the children in picking grapes. A group of 3 children age of 4, gathered near the fence. Their laugh as they reach up to the purple grapes. Some stand on tiptoes, others help their friends reach higher branches. My assistant supervise nearby while I take pictures. Children hold their harvest in their hands and proudly showing off their finds. Their hands are sticky with juice and their faces glowing with excitement. It’s more than just picking fruit, it’s a connection to the earth, and memories they will carry.

Some of the children run over, they choose to water their plants. Their small hands are gripping the bottle of water, they move plants to plants. Some are carefully pouring water in the vase, others splashing more water on their shoes than the soil and enjoying their moments. 1 of the children interest in reading books, sitting into quiet corner. 2 others run over to get a chair. The scene is calm and thoughtful. They enjoy looking at the different colors of pictures in the books.

Before all my boys most likely run towards the mini basketball hoop, child sized-basketball and some cars, trucks to play. They show strength, jumping, and throwing balls. They interact cooperatively and take turns.

Now they have more choices since we provide more materials for them to play.

We as teachers, offer encouragement, support as needed, ask open-ended questions. We allow enough time and plan smooth transitions.

I did an observation on this child's developmental skills while she plays outdoors. She was very curious about the stones and the way in which they felt in her hands. This activity helps her to develop her sensory skills, small motor, skills, awareness, and social skills.
