But by conquering land that has natives, you risk spreading, or contracting diseases that one group of people aren't used to. In order to conquer land you have to have the necessary supplies, yet because of the cost many explorers had to rely on the government.

The spread of Christianity, was another reason exploring became as popular as it did. The Europeans believed God would want them to spread their religion by trying to convert people.

The hunt for gold was another reason many countries participated in exploration. Gold was not only a resource, but a way to increase the wealth/status of a nation. Obtaining gold could make a person wealthy overnight, it had the power to greatly change a person's life. The main downside is greed taking control of a person, it would cause them to risk their lives, and kill other people just to have gold.

Europeans enjoyed exploring for the sake of glory. Finding new lands, or conquering empires made the explorer famous, and was an adventure. New places were found, and new colonies popped up everywhere, but a negative was that native were driven out of their land, taken into slavery, or killed for their resources. Explorers also became big headed, and were consumed with glory, that they often overworked the crew, or made voyages longer than they had to be.

Trade routes could be across land, or throughout the ocean. They saw many events that could be seen as a warning, or a sign that the empire would soon fall, or be under attack. Hernan burned the ships he brought, so his crew could not retreat, and a battle was inevitable. The Spanish would have to win the battle, or die trying. The battle between the two groups, ended with the slaughter of the indigenous people. The actions Cortes commited by leaving Cuba, defied Spanish orders, and put the crew at risk of being in danger. The Aztecs eventually submitted to Cortes, and began giving his men their valuables.

When the Spainish arrived, natives were killed for their gold, their symbols of religion were torn apart. Many diseases spread, which killed off many natives, so they were forced to surrender to the Spanish.

When the English were leaving England, they were told to conquer the lands occupied by the natives, and convert them to Christianity. They were captured as slaves, by the French, and many were killed in the process. Illness spread back and forth between the group, and proved itself as dangerous.
