Ashoka was a great emperor of India. He ruled the Maurya Empire from about 268 BCE to 232 BCE. Ashoka is often seen as one of India's most important emperors. He led many military victories and ruled over a large part of what is now India. One of his most famous battles was against the kingdom of Kalinga. This war was very brutal, with over 200,000 people dying or being captured. After this terrible victory, Ashoka felt very sad and regretful. He decided to change his ways and became a Buddhist. He chose to lead with peace instead of war. To show his new path, he built hospitals for both animals and people. He also created shaded resting areas along roads for travelers and dug wells in villages

And after a battle against another civilization, seeing what he had done, he decided to change. He turned towards peace and equality and treated everyone in his kingdom very kindly. The part that stands out to me is how he saw his flaws and changed himself. It shows that a person can change if they will it.

Ashoka ruled from 268 BCE to 232 BCE, he was known to be the most important but ruthless warrior and emperor. A battle he is most known for is the fight against the kingdom of Kalinga, the battle caused much bloodshed and loss from both sides. This resulted in Ashoka feeling remorseful and regretful, the weight of these feelings ended up with him turning to Buddhism and spreading Buddhism around the world. Instead of leading and ruling with violence, he turned to being a peaceful leader and ruling with kindness from there on out. He proved his new way of leading by building hospitals for his people and animals, along with rest stops for travelers.
