First Post: Why are you taking this class?

I am taking this class because I would wish to expand my understanding of how human actions and society correlate to different outcomes and possible behaviors? It bemuses me how different actions create surprising reactions, either being good outcomes or poor consequences. Hopefully as the course goes on…I am able to gain a type of understanding on this “cause and effect” matter in sociology.

As I come closer to studying a glorified ritual from the Naisacuac race I see how deliberately unself controlled they are. Once a blue moon people get together in a place of comfort and welcome each other embracing hugs and gratitude. But ultimately sacrificing a million of birds to only be consumed by evening time. Plating that poor bird right in the center of a piece of board as to glorify it making it the center of attention. They engorge in that lifeless bird that was sacrificed fighting over who gets the first cut into it. Stuffing their mouths with mashed starch and glutinous fat retching variety of plates. And so they eat until they are stuffed as they can get but keep adding to their insatiable appetite with a slice of maize loaf and orange fruit pudding. To the point that they pass out and sleep with their intestines impacted with food that could of atleast lasted a weeks worth…

Describing Thanksgiving Dinner

As I opened the door holding its rustic knob and stepped inside greeted by the aroma of earthy grounded coffee beans. I was swaddled by the intoxicating smell of caramelized sugar and baked goods. My eyes made its way to the open space in front of me urging myself to take a step and get in line to be called upon by the barista. Waiting I glanced around the room. My eyes wandering and noticing the warm fusion of colors created by the sunlight entering the room and hitting off the glass mugs displayed on a four way along the registers. I took a swift slow step, my new balances making a squeak as I took the step. And i picked up a particular mug by its handle, admiring the mellow glow a yellow colored glass item had caught my glaze because of the warm morning light bouncing off its surface. “Next person please!” The barista called out and for a moment a little startled I had almost dropped the mug but without a second thought I placed it back on its wooden shelf. The barista, smiled at me her smile creating a small dimple only noticeable from a certain angle when she inclined her head a tad bit to her left side. As she took my order her fingers fidgeted on the register punching in the order of a small mocha latte and a slice of lemon cake. Her friendly manner putting me at ease reassuring me that the order would be ready within the next five.

How do you Experience World Strength and World Conflict

My experiences with world strength would be staying positive no matter the situation. Always looking at things through the best way possible in order to form a stronger mindset. And also something I deal with that I would consider World Conflict would be wanting to be honest but also I wouldn’t want to hurt someone’s feelings. I find myself looking for ways to avoid conflicts even though saying something or doing something would look bad instead of good.

Situation of Group Conformity or Obedience to Authority Affected My Behavior

A situation I’d consider group conformity or obedience to authority would be when the dress code at my job got changed and I had decide whether to adhere by those rules or be myself. My manager wanted be to give up my care bear lanyard for a store name one to wear around my neck. What I did was change the lanyard but…I filled my badge with care bear stickers so in a way I still obeyed my manager but also decided what was more comfortable for me.

How has your social class affected your life?

My social class has affected my life significantly because I realize that I didn’t grow up to be as privileged as everyone else. From having to take the bus and surviving off struggle meals ( like bread with cheese, or having to make milk out of soaked oats) and thinking fast food was a once in a year treat because it was considered too expensive. From my parents working everyday in their life even when they were too sick to work but rent was due. For being made fun of for having the same pair of shoes every year and begging my parents to buy me new ones or constantly going to the thrift store for clothes instead of brand new shirts or jeans from retail stores.

Overall I feel like I would consider myself poor. Because I don’t feel as privileged because certain things in life weren’t given to me. I really am the first generation in my family to accomplish certain milestones. To finish middle school, highschool, and now attend college.
