Buran's house at the end of the book - “The wall had been whitewashed. Large earthenware pot of sweet basil stood at intervals atop it. The Squeaking, warped wooden gate had been removed and replaced with a new one of shiny black wrought iron.” - page 178. This quote shows that her families lifestyles has changed as well as Buran has.The house represents that they are still the same inside since it is still the same house but have added on to themselves.

There is something similar- the air, perhaps or the light- about all towns near the sea. Alexandria was not altogether different from Tyre. ” pg. 161

This quote is significant because after she gets to Alexanderia she thinks about Trye. This shows that not matter where she goes she will always carry the memories of Trye in her life.

In the suq we passed the jewelry stall of Abu Uthman; a few paces beyond it was a large, airy, well-arranged shop featuring unguents, medicines, and perfumes. - 88
This is where he would make all his money for his family.
