My organisation is a charity promoting healthy eating habits. I came up with this organisation because I believe awareness and education about healthy eating in people with learning disabilities are not enough. In contrast to the general population, people with learning disabilities are more likely to be severely overweight or obese. individuals who are obese are much more likely to experience mobility issues, diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, and stroke, along with other health issues (Public Health England, 2017).

My organisation will help people with learning disabilities by promoting healthier eating choices, encouraging and supporting regular exercise, and ensuring they are supported to make a balanced diet meal. According to the NHS, the majority of adults in the UK consume more calories than and should consider consuming fewer calories (NHS 2019).

To ensure that you are eating a balanced diet and that your body is getting all the nutrients it needs, you should eat a variety of foods. For example, a meal that contains carbohydrates, more fibre, less fat, more protein and vegetable and a variety of fruits (NHS 2019). Encouragement and support are needed to help people who are in need of help to make a healthier and balanced diet choice. My organisation will help and introduce a cooking class, based on healthy diet meals once a week. Weekly and enjoyable exercises will also be introduced.

WHO.(2022)Promoting healthy diets
Available from
https://www.who.int/westernpacific/activities/promoting-healthy-diets (Accessed 12/12/22)

(NHS 2019) 8 tips for healthy eating Available from https://www.nhs.uk/live-well/eat-well/how-to-eat-a-balanced-diet/eight-tips-for-healthy-eating/

My organisation is a charity organisation, and by law, my organisation will be registered as a non-profit under charity. Because I am creating a charity organisation, one of the main laws will be the Charities act 2011: which explains that a charitable purpose must be for the benefit of the public in order to qualify (legislation.gov.uk).

This particular legislation puts into writing how the organisation's accounts should be kept, any transactions within the organisation must be transparent and should be audited externally every year.

In addition, there must be trustees who will be in control of the charity, manage it, and be responsible and accountable for the organisation. If there is any sign of abuse, such as financial, the organisation's trustee will be held accountable in a court of law.

I will also look into the Equality act 2010: which states individuals are legally protected from discrimination in the workplace and in the larger community or society. It strengthened protection in some circumstances and made the law more easily and understandable by consolidating previous anti-discrimination laws into a single Act. (GOV.UK)
My organisation will take into consideration an individual's disability, age, sexual orientation, sex, beliefs or religion.
The organisation's premises will be accessible for wheelchair users and disability friendly.

Charities Act 2011 https://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/2011/25/contents
(accessed 11/12/22)
Equality Act 2010: guidance (2013-2015)
https://www.gov.uk/guidance/equality-act-2010-guidance(accessed 11/12/22)

In this assignment, it was very difficult and challenging for me at the beginning to create padlets, and source information on the computer. Creating an organisation is another problem that I encountered as well as time management. However, I am improving my IT skills, and managing my time better. I am also able to upload from padlet to canvas.

Accounting is important for my organisation because it will help it maintain and keep a detailed record of my company's financial information. In addition, customers will be able to compare current financial information with past information.

This will help the organisation to keep up-to-date records. It will also allow customers to evaluate a company's performance in the past, with consistent, and accurate records. Accountants for non-profits evaluate the financial state of their organisation, one of the objectives of non-profit accountants is to minimise costs and maximise services to society rather than to maximise profits( Brianna Flavin 2021)

Because my organisation is a non-profit, it will need an accountant to help monitor any money that comes in and out of the company account. Because my organisation is a charity, all financial transactions must be transparent to avoid any fraudulent activities.

The accountant will also be responsible for yearly, quarterly or monthly auditing. They also may be responsible for other tasks such as payroll for staff members who may be getting paid for work, or the outsourcing of talent.

Rasmussen University(2021) What Does an Accountant Do?

The purpose of the charity organisation is to create more awareness, promote healthy meals, increase healthy lifestyles, and help reduce health conditions and obesity within my community(Public Health England). Being a carer and working with people that have learning disabilities, I struggle to watch them eating high fatty foods, sugary drinks and generally unhealthy food because they do not have awareness or ability of what they choose to eat.

This drives me to create this organisation to support and
assist them with healthy diet choices, and also to introduce and encourage them to use a friendly and supportive gym.
My organisation will educate family & friends and support
staff on a nutritional meal, and a balanced diet which includes eating more protein, fibre, minerals, and vitamins including fruits and vegetables. less consumption of
carbohydrates and unsaturated fat. Introduce more fruits to replace candy & sugary food, whilst unsaturated fat can be substituted with saturated fat such as avocados(NHS)

According to NHS survey, there is an increase in obesity among people with learning disabilities, which could be better approached with the right amount of awareness and help. 37% of people with learning disabilities fall into the severe category of obesity, compared to 30.1% of those without learning disabilities (PHE).

GOV.UK(2020)The prevalence of obesity in people with learning disabilities
https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/obesity-weight-management-and-people-with-learning-disabilities(accessed 12/12/22)

House of Commons Library (2022) https://commonslibrary.parliament.uk/research-briefings/sn03336/(accessed 11/12/22)
