Upton Sinclair wrote a novel on how there was a lack of safety and sanitation. This brought attention to the lack of safety for the employees in the meat packing industry. Once Upton Sinclair made/wrote the novel started to make Americans wonder what was going into the meat that they were eating. In 1906 After president Theodore Roosevelt acted to pass the meat inspection act, he then signed the pure food and drug act.
