The lack of sidewalks greatly increases risks to pedestrian health. In addition, lawns in this area look awful. If this area had an HOA, it would look a lot better, and although there would be fees, the overall satisfaction and real estate values within the community would rise.

Terrible roads and driveways

The roads in this neighborhood are some of the worst I have seen. If these roads were repaved, it would not only help everyone's car have a smoother drive, but it would also make the neighborhood look 20 times better and drive up the value of the homes.

No stores/restaurants

In this neighborhood, there is not enough restaurants or stores. This is an issue because if you live in this neighborhood, it is pretty inconvenient if you would want to eat out or go grocery shopping. Neighborhoods like this (especially with some of its open space) need shopping centers, since it will make things more convenient for residents and will also increase the value of the neighborhood.

Run down and ugly houses

Throughout this neighborhood, many of the houses are in similar condition to the house pictured above. These houses should be heavily renovated or sold and demolished to build new houses. This would improve the look of the neighborhood to make it more inviting and nicer.

My friend took me here to tour with him because he is big into real estate, and lately this neighborhood has started to gain some traction. Sunnyside is located about 15 minutes south of the medical center in Houston and is one of the city's "uglier" neighborhoods. I liked experiencing this tour because I want to go into real estate one day, so I like to learn about what can be improved in neighborhoods. Unfortunately, it did not turn out to be the safest neighborhood either, so for a majority of the time, we stayed in the car. This area is rapidly developing, though, so even when I come back to visit the neighborhood, I would expect it to be a lot more developed as well as safer than now. I did talk to one resident, though, about how life was in the neighborhood. They told me that it was kind of rough because there can be a lot of local crime, but they also told me that there is a lot of culture shared between neighbors since it is a super diverse area, so I found that pretty interesting.
