In the RMA I chose to analyse there seemed to

be alot of close ups and medium close ups.I think

my trailer is quite similar in the way it uses

camera shots as there are many close ups included here

aswell for example: the close ups of the dead girls faces, the

killers feet and the girl holding the tree. This helps to show

iconography of the characters emotions

and feelings at this point in the trailer it also creates and builds up tension

for the audience. We challenge this however as we use some point of view shots which

helps the audience connect to the characters within the trailer.

In the Rma there is a soundtrack behind an ongoing voice over throughout.

The project also has developed this as it includes a soundtrack however there

is only a few voice overs or non diegetic sound that are included throughout. Both the trailer also have

text within them, this helps to enhance the story line and builds up the tension for the

audience. However The project trailer is different from the Amytivlle Horror one because

the Amytivlle has text reviews towards the ending whereas The Project doesnt.I think this is

effective as it could boost viewing rates. Both the soudtracks help to build tension in the trailer

therefore becoming effective and making an atmosphere for the audience. The Amytivlle horror trailer

seems fast at first, the music then becomes slow paced with silence and then loud 'booms' of music. This

helps the pace of the trailer and links to the purpose and genre it is aimed towards.

Both the trailers have text in them.I think our trailer developed this as the text helps to anchor the storyline and

helps the audience to make more sense of it.

Both the trailers have editing within them, most of the scenes throughout

have been editied with a dark tint or put a black and white effect on- this is

to match the genre of the film as horror is usually assumed to have dark and dreary

effects. However our trailer challenges this abit as there are some scenes filmed in the

light as we found it hard to film in the dark and the tints we used werent very effective. We have

developed the codes and conventions of normal trailers as the events dont happen in an ordered

structure. There are just fast pace snapshots included of what happens in the trailer.

Typically films are chronological whereas trailers don’t have to be.

Ours trailer begins with the start of the story but as it progresses towards the middle the storyline becomes jumbled and not in a chronological order.

This helps the audience to distinguish that this is defiantly a trailer and not a film.

The Project trailer and the rma, both establish location

of the trailer. This can act as a form of iconography as in the rma

this is the main part of what the trailer is about and is the main 'character'

and reason for the horror scares in the film. However our trailer challenges this

type of trailer but not others as many horror rmas I have researched are mostly set in

the woods as it allows a dark and dreary setting with a sense of no escape. Both the trailers

also have the typical ident of the distribution logo to help promote the company. Our trailer

develops on this as we included it also which is similar to every other RMA I studied.

Our trailer challenges this rma as there is a killer which is human, whereas

in the RMA there is no killer it is just a series of events that happen however the man survives. We have also challenged usual conventions of horror as the main characters in the film (all media students) die. Therefore this can show that there is no hero or narrative story line.

We have developed on the purpose and codes and conventions of trailers,as

obviously the main purpose of a trailer is to entice people and promote a future film. Also

to establish the characters and the narrative without giving too much away to the audience and also let the audience establish

a clear genre of the film and the trailer.Trailers often follow an enigma code which is where there are little clues

given to the audience.
