My favorite part of OneNote Class Notebooks is that it has a personal workspace for every student, a content library for handouts, and a collaboration space for lessons and creative activities.

Notebooks are easily searchable and can be used online or offline from phone, ipad and computer so it’s highly flexible. It really makes the classroom more digitally interactive and it’s very simple and intuitive

Things I do are:

- Gather web content and embed existing lessons to the class notebook to create custom lesson plans.

- Include audio and video recordings to create interactive lessons for students. Helps as we bounce from in person to online learning.

- Students can use drawing tools to highlight, annotate slides, sketch diagrams, and take handwritten notes.

- Students go to the content library to get their assignments. No more printed handouts for the class and I can put the link directly in a ManageBac assignment tab so students can easily access with a click.

- Sometimes I collect homework, quizzes, exams and handouts directly in the students own space and give feedback directly there.

It’s easily accessible in China so when I was working there I I didn't have to worry about a VPN for the firewall.

For feedback:

- I can provide individualized support by typing or writing directly in each student's private notebook.

- The collaboration space encourages students to work together as I provide real-time feedback and coaching.

- I can search for tags asking for help, and then I can give instant feedback to students who are struggling.

It’s also a collaboration space I use with other teachers for planning and meeting minutes.

Professional Grade Video Editing Software available for Windows, Mac and Linux.

The free version offers enough functionality to create professional looking videos. It offers all the basic functions you need plus a decent selection of effects and transitions.
You can do Chroma-Keying to use with a green screen, for instance.

You won't have access to fancy ready-made effects that you can just drag and drop, but with some skill and the help of tutorials you can create magnificent effects even without paying 295$ for the full version.

I have been using this in my high school elective courses and in the AV-Club.
The learning curve is not that steep and getting started is not that challenging. The more advanced functions, like the node based fusion editor offer great extension and research possibilities for the students that find it easier and need to be challenged or are simply interested in learning more.

I highly recommend giving this piece of software a try. There may be simpler and easier tools out there, but the possibilities of those are limited. By the time you've reached all the limitations the free version of DaVinci Resolve has to offer, you are probably working with video professionally and should be able to afford purchasing the full license.

Review
https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/davinci-resolve

Steve AI is a "free" AI powered text to video tool.
You need to create a free account in order to use it. Their free plan will allow you to create 4 videos per month with a small watermark attached.
If you want to make more videos, or would like to remove the watermark, they have paid plans to cover that. In most cases 4 videos a month should be sufficient for the use in a school context.

You need to write a script, then break down the script into scenes (one or two sentences are usually good), choose a style from the available templates, add a voice over (two options for the free account) and optional music. Click generate and it will create a video for you.

I've used this in conjunction with an AI writing tool, and we created a bunch of videos within one lesson with no effort at all.

Review:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R_J1d7yUnjc

Similar to Kahoot! you can either make student accounts, or students can compete without accounts. If you have a set of learning sets, such as "the Great Wall" you can set the amount of time you want it to last.

Adobe suite is a fantastic, expensive wonderland of professional toys for editing and creating nearly any digital media.

Premeir Pro and Premeir Rush are powerful video editing software packages that can do nearly anything you need them to do - editing, sound, overlays, and effects.

The limitations I have with this software is based on the age and power of my computer, but even then, I can still chop and configure a video, throw in a sound track, and then export it for youtube uploading in 30 minutes.

Rush - the lite version has a very small learning curve and basic editing skills can be picked up one the way.

Pro - goes a lot further and does a lot more but expects the user to know what they are doing. Definitely worth the investment for an educator creating a series of videos for class or an event.

Tech Requirements:
Moderate to heavy depending on the software you download. Adobe Cloud allows for lite versions (Rush) but rendering time and video quality depends on your computer's processing power. Pro has high system resource demand.

Geogebra is a highly intuitive math super-site that has a lot of fantastic bells and whistles for all users:

1.) Slider bars allow students to transform equations like (x^2+3x+2) into (ax^2+bx+c) where they can drag bars to see changes in a, b, and c live.
2.) 3D visualization is easy for all and there are many add-ons that allow the learner to explore geometry, transformations, inequalities, and related functions with a few clicks.
3.) Solvers, programming features, and demonstrations are all available and supported, extensively, online and in the platform.

But more importantly (and the reason why I have put this here) is that you can download an AR application on a smart phone or tablet that allows the user to see their work, in 3D, by moving around the room with their device.

I used this AR work in a 3D geometry and graphing project earlier this year - students were tasked to investigate whether 3 planes intersected and then draw their 3D representation. It's very hard to do this by hand and the students naturally struggled. Once we got them familiar with the AR software, we could see them moving around with their devices, fully able to see how things looked and worked. It was a valuable opportunity for students to visualize; and although it's not something I'll use in every class, there are many instances where using this AR tech will be valuable for my class.

Tech Requirements:
Free online tool for all platforms. Downloadable apps in the App/Google Play stores. Well supported across all platforms.

Reviews:
https://www.commonsense.org/education/reviews/geogebra/teacher-reviews/3910906#:~:text=GeoGebra%20is%20also%20great%20for,as%20they%20move%20points%20around.

When I was in 6th grade, our school got a Mac lab and on those Macs was an art program called "KidPix". I have strong, vivid memories of playing with this thing as long as it was installed on those compters.

It was fun, interactive, and busy, but it goes far beyond something like MS paint: there are stamps, songs, bombs, clip art, sound effects, silly pens and pencils and other fun things for young kids.

On a whim, I looked up Kidpix to see if I could download that for my son about a month ago and was delighted to find that KidPix STILL EXISTS and made a huge new suite in 2019 - or so AND they updated that suite in 2022 and it won a few awards. I immediately bought it and am very glad I did.

The new KidPix falls in line with the old - all the same fun things still exist but have been modified and extended to great measure. Additionally, there are movie makers, animation studios, sound recorders, and other interactive tools to put a lot of livelyness into the student's work.

Most importantly they have expanded on the concept of challenging the artist. By clicking on a certain box you can have the computer generate a prompt for you to create and explore. Something silly like "Draw me a sassy fish with four cow feet and a LOVE for hamburgers."

I think that playing and creating are incredibly important and giving students a large toolbox just for that is critical. I think this is just the tool for that at a young age.

Tech Requirements:
Download a (large) app from app store. Direct download from primary website. They are light weight which makes them easy for children K-5 to transport. iPads are also intuitive to use and a device that almost every student is already familiar with. The range of apps that are available for iOS is almost limitless. The touch screen makes learning more engaging. For younger learners who are still developing their hand-eye coordination, the touch screen is preferred to a touch pad mouse that may be found in portable computers.

Additionally, I like that keyboards and smart pens can be paired for older students who want to work on typing skills and more intricate art.

WHO uses it: Teachers, students, and parents can use the programme on any mobile phone or laptop. Our school used this online learning platform successfully since 2010. We use it to schedule assessments and give feedback about the student's grades, what they did well with, and specific guidance about what can be done to improve the grades.
WHAT platform it is used for: ManageBac runs best on Google Chrome, but it works on other internet browsers. It is compatible with Mac and PC. Also available for iOS and Android.
CLASSROOM USE EXAMPLE: I post the notıfıcatıon of the assessment two weeks beforehand. After the students did the assessment and I marked it, I post the grades with feedback about what each student did well and specific feedback about what must be done for further improvement on the grade book. This feedback is emailed to the parents by the app and I discuss it with the students personally too.
REVIEWS: My experience with this online learning platform is mostly positive. The reviews by others too, as can be seen at
https://www.managebac.com/reviews

Teachers can provide feedback to students and students can provide feedback to one another.
What platform it is used for: A teacher can simply go to Flip(opens in a new tab) to get signed up with a Microsoft or Google account. Select "Create Topic" and then you are given a link to share with the option to copy as well as to quickly pick what platform you want to auto-share to, including Google Classroom, Microsoft Teams, and so on. Students can then login and use the myjoincode to get into the Topic directly to watch the video and post their responses. Flipgrid works on most browsers and mobile devices.

Who the tool is for: Loom can be used by anybody: e.g. teachers and students to record and edit videos.
What platform it is for: Loom is a free screen recorder for Mac, Windows, Chrome, iOS, and Android. Loom for Android is available on Android 8.0 and above. You can download Loom's iOS app by visiting the App Store or using the QR code below. To download Loom for Android, visit the Google Play store. Questions, comments, concerns?
Example for use in the classroom: Loom can be used as a teacher-centered tool for recording presentation slides and website tutorials, it can also be a great tool for students to use to show their thinking or understanding of a topic.
Reviews: Loom is the original and still the best by leaps and bounds. From using the free version when they first released their product, to now paying for the professional version, I am constantly impressed. It is a vital part of how we provide support to our clients.
Pros: After trying every other option out there, from Bonjoro, Vimeo Record, and Dropbox Capture, desktop software like Snagit and Camtasia, and other similar pieces of software, Loom stands head and shoulders above all of them. It is simple to record, the video is uploaded quickly, the processing is ridiculously fast, the editing is faster than I have seen and it does what it says on the box.
Cons: Sometimes the webcam and the sound is a little out of sync.
Reasons for switching to Loom: I wanted something simple and effective that didn't slow down responses and that the recipient didn't really have to think.
https://www.softwareadvice.com/screen-recording/loom-profile/

Students are more engaged and enthusiastic. I overcome the challange of students getting distracted with engaging content and group work. I started using mobile phones in my classes this year to facilitate better learning. Any mobile phone can be used. Students use it to log into the online learning platform, ManageBac, do the exercises, and submit work on the platform.

Desmos mathematics is a set of tools that allows the student to visualize, calculate, and create lovely mathematics.

I have been using Desmos as a modeling tool for various projects - primarily the Mathematics Internal Assessment (IA) - that has had excellent results. In multiple examples, students have been able to use Desmos's snapshot feature to take rapid fire images of their movements in a sport and then estimate curves for their specific motion range. A recent example is a student playing squash wanted to hit a perfect 3-wall boast shot. She set her phone and this app up to record the shot's motion and could map the trajectory of her plays accordingly. Given data, Desmos can make a model pretty quickly and allow the student to explore.

Other aspects of the program function like many other calculators on the web (Wolfram Alpha, Maple, or Geogebra, say) so there isn't pressing demand to learn this suite over another.

Still a good resource!

Tech Requirements:
Downloadable package via app store / google play allows for modeling that the free online version doesn't have.

Reviews:
https://www.commonsense.org/education/reviews/desmos

Although it is certainly the case that flipgrid is a great opportunity to get students to commit to short films and visual assignments, it is also a great way to provide feedback and communication for people as a whole.

I have created assigments where there have been multiple types of mistakes at different levels and in different directions. Making separate videos targeting each class of mistakes and then making the videos public for all viewers is an excellent way to communicate many different ideas, with infinite repeatability, to many people.

That in mind, it also has the potential to address different types of communication with parents about goals, actions, and events that are important in your classroom community. Inviting parents to a flip classroom could allow you to post information sessions in bite-size chunks, receive video-specific feedback, and response easily.

Tech Reqirements:
Flip is a downloadable tool for Android/Windows/iOS and is regularly updated/supported.

Like other interactive gamification software (gimkit, quizziz, kahoot, etc) Poll Everywhere allows the presenter to push the viewer to participate in the presentation. The value in this app, that differentiates it from those others, is that this app lives within Powerpoint.

A struggle that I have had to deal with is that once the presentation is going, I need to minimize or switch windows to get a separate app running, taking me out of the presentation, gather the data, bring it back to the power point, and then keep going. You can observe voter data in the presentation live and you can adjust questions and content on the fly with minimal effort.

Most important for me is that it allows for specific mathematics (LaTeX) input, meaning I don't have to create separate math documents, take screen shots of the equations, and then paste a lot of pictures. This is another tremendous time saver for me.

With this, I can run far more formative assessments, collect real data, provide visualization for that data, and then keep moving through my ppt. This is a huge change for me in my classroom.

Tech Requirements -
There is a downloadable package for Windows, Mac, or Linux OS.

Obviously, this goes a bit beyond the "classroom management" ideas - in that Canvas IS the classroom.

Still, giant classroom building programs, like Google Classroom, Canvas, Moodle, etc all provide an enormous wealth of information, control, guidance, and support for teachers and learners alike.

Thinking about my practice and the way I communicate with my students, having one centralized store for all their needs; videos, grades, support, homework, revision, etc, would be brilliant. Managebac has a lot of this available, but doesn't entirely function like a learning platform - it's more of a communications tool.

If Canvas was better supported across China, it would be a go-to for me. Designing lessons, sharing ideas with co-teachers, and adding support over time could bring together resources, question banks, and revision far more thoroughly than a single book could (ever)!

Tech Requirements:
Tech for Canvas is quite high - you need to be able to download Canvas to a specific server that can support the number of students you expect to have log in to your platform at any given time. If you have a small group of 15 students, for example, my computer *should* be able to handle the server load. If I have multiple sections of 30 students with a time-sensitive it's advised to have a dedicated server (school space, say).

From here, knowledge of basic web programming is expected. Customization is key and having the knowhow is necessary.

Reviews:
https://www.commonsense.org/education/reviews/canvas

Google Classroom is not just a learning management system, but also a very powerful Classroom/ Time management tool.

Classroom has the possibility to create topics. If you set up one topic to be Classroom rules, norms and expectations, you can add materials, such as a google doc or a google slide that your students can collaboratively fill with norms and expectations that will be available at all times. This was obviously more important during the pandemic, but it has proven to be effective outside the classroom as well. Some expectations extend beyond the walls of the classroom and having a virtual set of rules available at all times is a great way of keeping the students aware of these rules and expectations.

In regards to time management. Assignments can be scheduled to be released by the minute and so can deadlines.
If you spend some time planning ahead and break down assignments into smaller chunks and assign them at pre-selected points in the lesson it can be used as a time management tool as well.
This works great in a station rotation setting. For example, you have 10 different stations, but students will only visit 5 of them and then meet with other students to share and learn about the stations they didn't visit from the other student. To do so they get a google form attached to their assignment.
every 5 minutes there is a switch to a new station. Students will use their smartphone, receive their new station, learn the content and then have to get answers from another student to answer the google form that was attached to the assignment.

Who the tool is for: Seesaw is an online remote learning and communication platform designed for teachers, students, and parents.
What platform the tool is for: You can download ıt from the google playstore, but all you need is an internet connection and a modern web browser with JavaScript enabled. Google Chrome gives the best experience, but the latest versions of Safari, Firefox, and other internet browsers should all work on both Macs & PCs.
Example for classroom use: Teachers can assign all sorts of tasks on Seesaw, which can be as simple as a scanned worksheet or as involved as a multistep assignment with video tutorials and integration of Google Docs. Check out this tutorial on how to post a basic assignment on Seesaw, which includes the option to add voice instructions for students (great at any age but particularly important for younger students). As an added bonus, teachers can view all assignment submissions at once to gauge students' understanding of a concept or skill.
https://www.commonsense.org/education/articles/teachers-essential-guide-to-seesaw
Revıews: Pros: Intuitive for students and teachers. Tons of ideas up for grabs in the Activity Library. Cons: In the paid skills feature, skills and standards must be manually entered. Bottom Line: A powerful multimedia learning and communication tool that demonstrates student progress over time.
https://www.commonsense.org/education/reviews/seesaw
