"Will you turn the parlour off?" he asked. 
"That's my family."(Bradbury 46). Bradbury uses Mildred's character to express this theme since she is so immersed in this modernized form of brainwash. Mildred feels that the actors in her show are more of her family than her husband is. 
"Mildred watched the toast delivered to her plate. She had both ears plugged with electronic bees that were humming the hour away. She looked up suddenly, saw him and nodded. “You all right?” he asked. She was an expert at lip reading from ten years of apprenticeship at Seashell ear-thimbles. She nodded again." (Bradbury 16). Unlike Montag, Mildred needs constant noise to drown out her own thoughts. She keeps the seashells in to sleep and during the day. This statement is very relatable considering the fact that much of the older population has to sit by and watch as the world evolves and revolves around new technology. Grandmothers, even mothers will tell their children how different the world was when they were a kid. Instead of going out to play, kids in the modern age are playing video games with people they've never met, and will never meet. "Texting has replaced face-to-face conversation for many people, and some experts worry that teens, who are the heaviest texters, are losing social skills, including the ability to empathize with others." Susan Henneburg says this while stating her argument that cell phones have become a part of the human body. I agree with this though due to my own personal experiences as a teen in this modern age. Many teens have become so attached to their cell phones and feel tempted to check it even when taken away.
