Passionate

"Son, how come you talk so much ‘bout money?” Walter: “Because, it is life, Mama!” Mama: “Oh—so now its life. Money is life. Once upon a time freedom use to be life—now its money. I guess the world really do change…” Walter: “No—it was always money, Mama. We just didn’t know about it." P.g. 74

Explanation: Walter is passionate because he wants/needs money because "money is life". He says that because money in their time period is important and needed to survive in the area that they live in. The family is desperate for money and that's why Walter wants/needs money, to help them out. All Walter wants to do is make the family happy.

Ambitious

Walter to Travis: "Just tell me where you want to go to school and you’ll go. Just tell me, what it is you want to be—and you’ll be it…Whatever you want to be—Yessir! You just name it, son… and I hand you the world!" P.g. 108

Explanation: Walter is ambitious because he is determined to make sure his son gets what he wants. Whether that is going to a good school or maybe just having a good job. No matter what it takes Walter will do it. Walter wants his son to feel comfortable with his future. All he wants is to make sure his son has a better life than he did.

I believe Walter is sympathetic because whenever things seem to be bad he always finds a way to make good out of it and cheer people up. Walter is sympathetic because he can change the emotion in a room just by saying one sentence. He is sympathetic because he is the maturest in the family and is the hardest working. He is the man of the house and, although no the oldest, the senior of the family. Walter is sympathetic because he is the one holding the family together and keeping them happy.

In the picture you see a is picture there is a man climbing towards a bright light. That bright light is a goal that the man is working towards in life, and the stairs are the obstacles in his way of reaching the goal. Every other 5 steps is another obstacle but he pushes through it working as hard as possible. Walter works his hardest, overcoming obstacles everyday, to achieve his goal. Walter climbs 50 steps every day and even though he struggles he perseveres.

He has a job to help him make money in order to make his business. He wants his name to stay for as long as possible. But, he is doing something wrong. All he wants is to be remembered for as long as humanly possible and for all of his good vibes to be remembered.

These lyrics relate to Walter because he tries his hardest to get money in order to help mama and the family but they don't believe he can do it. They always wanted to say what they wanted but never gave Walter a say. They talked down to him and made him think he couldn't do it/achieve it. They thought he was a disappointment and after a while he started to believed them. After that happened he started drinking and just wanted to be alone. That's when the voices started. The voices in his head started to take him off track and divert him from his goal. He wanted to shut the voices out and continue to work toward the goal, and he did. He was able to shut them out and persevere and achieve his goal.

The theme of A Raisin In The Sun is dreams vs. reality. A quote that shows this is “Man say to his woman: I got me a dream. His woman say: Eat your eggs. Man say: I got to take hold of this here world, baby! And a woman will say: Eat your eggs and go to work. Man say: I got to change my life, I’m choking to death, baby! And his woman say – Your eggs is getting cold!” page 33,34
Explanation: The man has an obvious dream. He dreams of changing his life because he feels like he is choking. The woman is not paying attention to his dream but wants him to focus on what is in front of him, his eggs. She reminds him that his reality is right in front of him, and getting cold. The is focused on what he could do or be in the future and his woman is worried about him focusing about the present first.
