Some freed African american slaves rest in this cemetery, along with the two puritan ministers Cotton and Increase Mather. These two were very closely related and connected to the Salem witch trails. The British used the burying ground for training camps and because of the massive height they used this to train their cannons during the battle of bunker hill. The British soldiers used the graves as target practice and some graves still have bullet marks but some were lost during the revolution.
