We've started using a strategy called trench warfare to keep our soldiers safe. This method was created in the 17th century by a French military engineer named Sebastien Le Prestre De Vauban. Both sides would build deep trenches as protection from the enemy.

Soldiers living in these trenches are starting to suffer from long term effects. One of the effects is shell shock(PTSD) which is the phycological disturbance caused by long term exposure to active war or bombardment. Our military leaders are sending the higher ranked officials with shell shock home but the rest of the soldiers must stay and fight reguardless. Other soldiers faced facial spasms and uncontrollable diarreah from unrelenting anxiety as well as many more life altering conditions.
(ww1 soldier with shell shock "PTSD")

It ended around 1918 begining with kaisers battle which was a series of german attacks along the western front. This battle occured because the germans were desperate to win the war and they knew trench warfare wouldnt get them far. New weapons and technology were also being introduced which eventually made trenches dangerous. Tanks were being utilized as powerful weapons and guns were evolving.
