During the Freedom Summer, the people involved were black voters, the KKK, police, state and local authorities who carried out violent attacks. This event took place in Mississippi when people tried to increase the amount of black voters. During this event, KKK klansman and authorities slaughtered black people so that they wouldn’t be able to place a vote. The leader of this event was Robert Moses who was a civil rights activist who encouraged the event. The SNCC and CORE were the organizers of this event trying to get black people to vote. It was a nonviolent effort by civil rights activists to integrate Mississippi segregation laws.

Obstacles and Tactics

One of the couple obstacles is racism because during this event, Mississippi was trying to encourage black people to vote but back when this event was taking place, klansmen from the KKK were there and they slaughtered many blacks for trying to vote. This is an obstacle because this made it hard on black people to vote and more or less live for that matter. A tactic used during the Civil Rights Movement was the Freedom Summer. The outcome of the Freedom Summer was helpful in the success of the Civil Rights Movement. It helped African-American residents to vote, and establish a new political party.

Was it Effective?

In our opinion we think the Freedom Summer was successful. It was a turning point for civil rights activists and the militant wing of the movement. Not only was it very helpful for black people, but this was effective because everyone today has the right to vote no matter what ethnicity they are.
