Fan of comics because of the artwork and humor. Enjoys Calvin and Hobbes, Garfield, and Dog eat Doug. Doesn't read (boring) classics or nonfiction for fun.

Wallace the Brave is written in the form of short comic strips, and reviewers compare it to classic comics and Big Nate. Wallace lives in Snug Harbor and goes on adventures with his best friend, a new girl in town, and his feral little brother.

This series is quirky, spunky, humorous and adventurous. Each page is a new comic. Based on the books that you mentioned enjoying—Big Nate, Calvin and Hobbes, and Garfield—and the fact that you wanted funny books to read, I think you might enjoy this series.
Wallace the Brave by Will Henry | Goodreads

Boris the Cat by Erwin Moser

This is a comic strip written by an Austrian writer. Boris goes on adventures with his animal friends. This comic is a bit on the lower level of the reading scale, but is for adult readers, and has great artwork. The trouble that Boris gets into and out of is similar to Calvin and Hobbes, and the comic has been described as philosophical, which also fits in with the Calvin and Hobbes theme. I think you might enjoy this as a very light and funny read.

Boris the Cat - The Little Cat with Big Ideas by Erwin Moser | Goodreads

This book steps away from the everyday humor of the books you usually read and brings in fantasy elements. It does have much in common with the books that you like to read because it is amusing, whimsical, and adventurous. It is a graphic novel, rather than a comic book, so the story continues throughout the book. I think you might enjoy reading something from a different genre than you usually read.

Alcatoe and the Turnip Child by Isaac Lenkiewicz | Goodreads

This series keeps the feel of the cartoon comics being witty and offbeat, while adding in fantastical elements of royalty, dragons, and monsters.

I think you may like this book because it is funny, drawn in the style of a comic with short sections, but continues one epic story throughout the series.
Bone, Vol. 1: Out from Boneville (Bone, #1) by Jeff Smith | Goodreads

This book is different than some of the comics that you enjoy because it features a middle schooler who starts at a new school and feels out of place and is about how he deals with fitting into a new environment. This book is about a boy who loves art but is pushed by his parents to a school for academic achievement, and I think you may enjoy it because the story is real and relatable, but it is also funny. Also, this is a graphic novel that has an art focus, which is something I think you might appreciate.

This book keeps the elements of humor and graphics while adding in real-life issues. This book also won many different awards and is well-rated.
New Kid (New Kid, #1) by Jerry Craft | Goodreads

Graphic novel classics by Gareth Hinds

If you haven't read Gareth Hinds's adaptions of classics, I highly recommend them. The stories are well laid out with the characters introduced visually, with portraits and mini-bios. The artwork portrays the epic wartime sagas of books like the Iliad and the Odyssey. Hinds books are a great way to get the plots and important details of some of the classics without wading through the writing that you might think is boring (like Tom Sawyer).

However, if you are not into blood and gore, I would avoid the Gareth Hinds graphic novel adaption of Beowulf.
You can find many of these novels for free on TeenBook Cloud, as well as many other graphic novels and books for teens.
TBC: Read Watch Learn (teenbookcloud.com)
