There so species in world that are facing being vulnerable to endangerment critical endangered, and much of it has to do with human involvement or climate change. In Canada,, habitat loss, pollution, invasive species, climate change, and unsustainable harvesting have pushed over 500 species dangerously close to extinction. Here is a link to some animals on that list
https://www.worldwildlife.org/species/directory?direction=desc&sort=extinction_status#

"In 1961, a limited number of organizations around the world—such as the International Union for the Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources (IUCN) and The Conservation Foundation—were trying to meet conservation needs, but were desperately short of funds.

The first call for broad support was the Morges Manifesto, signed in 1961 by 16 of the world’s leading conservationists, including biologist and African wildlife enthusiast Sir Julian Huxley, IUCN vice president Sir Peter Scott and director-general of the British Nature Conservancy E. M. Nicholson. The Morges Manifesto stated that while the expertise to protect the world environment existed, the financial support to achieve this protection did not. The decision was made to establish World Wildlife Fund as an international fundraising organization to work in collaboration with existing conservation groups and bring substantial financial support to the conservation movement on a worldwide scale." (worldwildlife.org, 2017)

"Over time, our work has evolved from protecting particular wildlife species and habitats to protecting life on Earth – including our own. Today, our work is about life, because everything we do is about securing the future of healthy, thriving ecosystems. And living, because the choices we make will decide that future—for us and for all species." (wwf.ca, 2017)
Using modern science and global cooperation, they plan trying not just to save the animal species that need to be saved the most, but the whole planet as well. http://www.wwf.ca/about_us/howwework/

WWF Canada, like many others a part of the World Wildlife Fund, is trying to contribute it's part to making the world a better place, and in doing so has a plan in motion:
"Left unchecked, climate change could push one in six species to extinction. Because fossil fuels are the single biggest contributor to greenhouse gas emissions, WWF-Canada is committed to seeing Canada use 100 per cent renewable energy by 2050.

Switching to renewable energy will slow the warming of the Earth, reduce deforestation, desertification, erosion and flooding, as well as diminish disastrous fossil fuel spills in our oceans and watersheds and invisible but deadly methane leaks into our atmosphere.

With tremendous wind, solar, hydro and biomass potential, as well as the longest coastline in the world and some of the highest tides, Canada is home to significant renewable energy reserves. We can make renewable energy Canada’s source of power, creating jobs at home and expertise to export. It is possible.

But like all energy projects, there is potential for conflict with nature. WWF-Canada is pioneering approaches to renewable energy deployment that is habitat friendly for every energy type: on land, in freshwater, marine and Arctic environments" (wwf.ca, 2017)
