This was the first film shot in AICE media, since I joined the class late I was not around for the filming process. Therefore, I was given the role of critiquing the film with a fresh set of unbiased eyes. The critiquing process normally occurs after the film has been released but, my role gave the film the opportunity to be finished with less mistakes.

The story line was a creative concept and the special effects were fairly good when Cameron hit Sebastian towards the end of the film. The resounding problem faced by most groups was poor audio quality in the school courtyard as the concrete walls proved to be less than ideal for background sounds and echoes . Furthermore, on many occasions camera angles had the actors heads cut out of frame . The last flagrant issue was most title cards passing far to fast to read.

GENRE AND REPRESENTATION REFLECTION

In class we covered the following movie genres: Action, Adventure, Animation, Superhero, Documentary, History, War, Crime, Mystery, Family film, Horror, Thriller, Fantasy, Sport, sci-fi, YA, Musical, and Rom-Coms. We also went over how movies convey meaning through the use of representation, setting, iconography and values. They also convey meaning through visual ques, In many film genres you can find corresponding lighting characteristics and film techniques by using lighting, camera angles and editing. The use of these techniques has made the audience expect certain things when they go to watch a film. When one goes to a horror movie he or she can expect to feel frightened, however when that same person attends a big budget action movie they expect to feel exhilarated. For each genre we watched three movie clips from each film genre that portrayed the evolution of these genres over the years.
Many of the clips we watched also carried over elements from other genres, making them hybrid movies.

Our first film did not easily fall into one category but it most closely relates to a family movie as the main character overcomes an obstacle in his life and is able to fly. Our second film easily slots into the horror/thriller genre as the suspenseful music leads the viewer on the edge of their seat and also uses high angles and tracking shots to look down on the main character.

My personal favorite Drama/war hybrids because Casablanca is one of my favorite movies that takes place in occupied Morocco and is a classic Hollywood film that has secured its place in history. If I were to make a film In this genre I would make a very unsatisfying film that showed the true loss of war when a American soldier falls in love but then is killed in battle and the bad guys win, no happy/hero ending for such a Horrific time period.

1. A one or two sentence description of the first two minutes. What happens?

The first scene uses fire and paper to illustrate the title sequence. A group of men are on their way to a house and right when the two minutes finish it is right before they walk in the door.

2. What is the genre and who is the target audience for this film?

The genre is Horror and the audience is 18-35 years old.

3. Describe the opening credits and title sequences, including any company logos or idents. When do they appear? What color/font are they using? How does it "align" with the opening of the film? Anything else you notice?

Dark Smokey colors with oranges and brown accents. Fire burns the dark bold letters on the paper that display the credits and title. It aligns with the Firemen rushing to go somewhere displaying fire as the opening aligns with the movie as a whole.

3.
Production and Editing Reflection

Throughout the filming process I have realized that you will never get every part of the film perfect, rather you must make the most out of what you get because even the worst clips might be your best after editing. Throughout the film we completely changed the script from tracking the main character through a house to the climax when he's staring in the mirror to the whole film being set outside with the climax being the main character outside with the climax of throwing his mask away. Most of the feedback was just to "smooth out" the film and make the story flow together and be more coherent. In the end I am more than happy with what the Final product as it flows together better and leaves the viewer wanting more.
