Though that number is not huge compared to the total population in the United States, women are constantly feeling threatened and we deserve to have a way to protect ourselves. As made clear, this amendment is in desperate need of changes. It's ancient proof and outdated words make it all but useless in modern times, little more than a talking point. We were, after all, formed as the result of a violent revolution, the success of which completely depended on the ownership of guns for protection by a volunteer militia that was made up of, theoretically every member of the nation. However, in the intervening 242 years, some things have changed. We have grown from an isolationist former colony into the premier power of the world, perhaps in all of history. We have become interventionist in the extreme, and industrialist beyond even 20th century belief. And yet, despite our innovation, despite our premiership and our prominence, we are not at the top. We are primitive in our gun violence, which compares not to other first world countries or Great Powers, but to the much less developed nations. In terms of violent crime committed with guns, we are at the bottom of the list. The issue destroys our nation with every election, and constantly threatens our unity in between. It is one so fraught with controversy and so divisive that to not address it is to ignore the most systemic of problems. The second amendment does not need repealing. It needs revision, and extreme revision. It needs regulation that makes sense, the removal of a two hundred year old clause for a militia that doesn't exist, and much better control of our guns. We are forever and permanently different from those nations who feel it necessary to take away their citizens guns. We are freer, we are greater, in our minds. But to actually become greater, to actually embody those American ideals, is something that isn't happening right now. The Second amendment is destroying our nation, and so it must be changed. With making it harder to get guns and regulating who is able to get one, owning guns can be made so much more responsible and guns can save so many more lives. Just by making the conceal to carry law, some states have reduced murders, rapes, aggravated assaults, and robberies. Violence should never be encouraged, but has human beings, not even just Americans, we have the right to life and to be able to live sometimes you need to protect yourself. I can see why someone would argue to carry a gun but most attacks killing people involve a gun. So not having a gun at all can really prevent many bad situations.The con side made it really clear that the second amendment should not be repealed but instead, it should be revised. If the second amendment were to be revised in a beneficial manner, many violent situations can be avoided. Additionally, the con side made a point that the language written in the Constitution can now be interpreted differently because languages have evolved.
