Curiosity - We had a very special visitor talk to in assembly this afternoon, a children’s author called Ian Brown. He spoke to us about his inspiration for his books, especially his pet tortoise Albert. He read us two stories, Albert Upside Down and Albert Supersized. The children were fascinated and asked very good questions such as how long it took him to write his first book and what advice would he give to someone wanting to be an author.

Curiosity and Critical Thinking - To begin our new science unit, we completed a Now Press Play. We explored the different classification of animals and had to classify different animals on our adventure.

Curiosity and Creativity - This afternoon, we began our new Art unit - looking at Pop Art. We discovered Andy Warhol. We learnt key facts about him, alongside how he used silk screen printmaking. This is a process that involves pushing ink through a screen.

After our research, we made a artist page, detailing key facts about his life and work.

Curiosity and Critical Thinking - We began our new computing unit today, focusing on programming. Our lesson was centred around having a recap about ScratchJr. We begun with identifying the start of a sequence, and identified that a program needs to be started.

We then recapped our key skills and used StratchJr to produce an outcome with the following criteria:

- use six blocks
- use a start block
- use an end block

Communication and Critical Thinking - This afternoon’s PSHE lesson in Forest School was about coping with loss and change. The children discussed losing something, how it felt and ways that they coped with the change. For example, we read a story about two best friends who had to say goodbye to each other when one moved to a new city and how that stayed in touch. I was very impressed with how well the children articulates their ideas.

Curiosity - This afternoon, we began our new geography unit, exploring Zambia.

We identifed where Zambia and Africa are on a map (recalling that Africa is a continent, not a country), explored it's capital city (Lusaka) and explored the human and physical features of the country.

We explored it's flag using atlases and wrote some key facts about the country in our books.

Critical Thinking - In Computing today, we explored that a sequence of commands have an outcome. We also explored that some programs use different blocks but produce the same outcome.

We then were given a set of commands which were different. We had to experiment on Scratch Junior and match the correct outcomes up.

Curiosity - In Science last week, we began to discover our first habitat - Desert. We explored different key facts and then discovered which animals live there. Furthermore, we identified the adapatations different animals make to live in their habitat.

Critical Thinking and Curiosity - To deepen our understanding into the different habitats, we completed a Now Press Play. In this experience, we were on a spaceship and discovered four different habitats - Desert, Rainforest, Arctic, Marine. We then had to critically think where different animals lived and what adaptations they have made to live successfully there.

Communication - For our session today, we went to the school library to swap our books. To start with, we spoke about our book and our favourite section. We completed some book talk with our partners.

Creativity and Curiosity - This afternoon, we explored a new artist - William Morris. We learnt key facts, alongside how he is known for his repeated patterns. We then created our very own repeated patterns inspired by his work on our artist page, which also included some key facts about him and his work.

Communication and Critical Thinking - This afternoon, we completed a book swap. We used our book talk skills to explain our book and what happened in it before swapping. We then did some partner reading and then signed our journals.

After, we then completed a Setting activity in our reading journals. We then presented these to the class using key vocabulary.
