The interview with Frank McCourt really stood out to me. As a future administrator, I hope to understand where my team of teachers are coming from and I hope to show them that they are valued so that they can make a difference in the students' lives. Having teachers feel valued is important because they can then pour into the lives of the students.

I liked the interview with Alex White where he said he went to Urban Academy and saw everyone working collaboratively. "Without intending to, educators may set aside valuable curriculum, overlook or marginalize students who need them, misinterpret students' motives or behavior, and limit their potential as professionals." This quote really stood out to me because I have seen this happen. Sometimes students display certain unpleasant behavior in the classroom, but this isn't necessarily towards the teacher or because they don't like the class. It may because the student is going through a difficult time at home. If the teacher takes this personally, it will negatively impact the student rather than help him. Our main goal is to figure out how to reach the students without allowing our biases interfere with our teaching.

As a future administrator, I think there needs to be a balance of the holistic perspective and the essentialist model. Teachers should be able to help children reach their full potential while helping them become lifelong learners. I think as educators, it is our job to help foster lifelong learning. We should inspire students to keep questioning and learning beyond the classroom.

As an educator, I think it's important to help the students develop effective communication skills. It's important for the students to be able to communicate their thoughts clearly through debate, discussion, and writing. It is our duty as a teacher to also bring the different perspectives so that the students can see the different sides of the story. This will help them throughout their lives because they will understand that everyone is different and has various upbringing which allows them to bring different perspectives to the table.

Everyone plays a different role, but we all work together for the greater good. As a current teacher and (future teacher), I found it powerful to read that teaching is one of the only professions where the person that takes up that career, is actually able to get a close up look at the kind of work it requires before they enter the field. Moreover, how seeing your own teacher's teach at and early age can influence how we develop our own styles of teaching and the belief systems that we apply in our classrooms. It is vitally important to think about what we display to our students on a daily basis, this was definitely something I had not yet considered.

As a future educator, it was important for me to read and learn about how educators tend to subscribe to one of three belief systems. The first, tends to focus on the educators role in helping their students reach their fullest potential as students. The second, addresses how some tend to see that schools are environments that are meant to develop students into productive members of society. Lastly, the third highlights how teachers attempt to teach the concepts of life-long learning, individuality, and self-efficacy. I personally do not believe that teachers can or should be one or the other, I believe it is equally important to show our students how to be life-long learners and I relate heavily to the part where we are responsible to help unearth our students' fullest potentials.

As a future educator, this may be one of the most simple yet eye-opening takeaways from the reading. It was interesting to discover that when students perceived behaviors are though to be rooted in a lack of understanding or competence for the material teachers reacted in a softer fashion. In contrast, when the teacher feels that the behavior problem is stemming from a power struggle with the pupil, they tend to be less soft and apprehensive about the student's needs. I truly believe neither can be invalidated, because both of those instances showcase a students reaction and seeking for help.

As a future educator, I think it is important to note that teachers do often hold different views on their roles, beliefs, and their performance in different areas of their work. It was relatable to read that it is common for a teacher to feel like they have a firm grasp on the material that they are teaching, while at the same time struggle with other areas of the job. I related personally to this because at times during my first-year as an 8th grade history teacher, I have felt like I get a good grip on one area of my teaching but then I would maybe struggle with something like classroom management. It makes you feel validated as the educator.

As a future educator, I found it crucial to make not of the impact that our beliefs can have from the moment we step foot in our classrooms. Beliefs can shape and influence our own behavior towards students, the interactions that we have with our students (positive and negative), and even what should be taught as well as how it should be taught. Belief systems are powerful and knowing what we espouse to our students is even more important.

As a future educator, I thought it was paramount to be able to come to the realization that our beliefs should be reviewed and adjusted from time to time. As we get more experienced, we tend to hold on to certain beliefs or patterns that may have been reliable in the past. However, this allows for a great amount of bias to unwillingly seep in to our teaching. We must be self-reflective and perform our due diligence to filter through our beliefs that no longer serve us well, and allow for the development of those that can guide us. After all, life-long learning is not just for our pupils.
