I was reading a story about a war veteran who went to Iraq many times. He said that for the ten years directly after leaving the military, he couldn't get himself together and spent most days drinking, doing drugs and fighting people. After his family got worried about him, he broke up with his alcoholic, drug abusing girlfriend and met a new girl, who later became his wife. She taught him what true love was and how to care for people, but he still suffered from ptsd. When he got his wife pregnant, he went to get help because his baby wouldn’t be safe if he had an anxiety attack. He got help, and still suffers but has greatly improved and can provide a good life for his baby and wife.

Describe the various ways PTSD is relevant to the story we’re reading

tn the book, Billy shows shares his experience after the war and the state of him being “unstuck in time.” PTSD is relevant because it affects Billy and possibly other soldiers. Vonnegut shows the effects of traumatic situations can do to people.

An example when this is seen is when Billy stated he was unstuck in time in a forest in which he was by a tree. He has created another world or life in which he tries to avoid those horrific events that he witnessed in Dresden.

Also another example was when Billy says he was abducted by the Tralfamadorians he means the Germans. He does this by staating “He came to in what he thought might be a building on Tralfamadore. It was shrilly lit and lined with white tiles. It was on Earth, though. It was a delousing station through which all new prisoners had to pass. Billy did as he was told, took off his clothes. That was the first thing they told him to do on Tralfamadore, too” (83). Billy creates the "Tralfamadores" from his personal experiences so he can avoid or protect himself from his reality of emotions and memories.
