The individual liberties are the freedoms which are guaranteed to every United States citizen. These freedoms are accepted outside the government's control.

Some examples are the right to a fair trial by jury, the freedom of speech, and lastly the right to bare arms. All of these principles plus more are part of the US Constitution and can not be removed.

EXTRA-
freedoms guarenteed to the people
These help to protect the people from the government

The idea of limited government is that each branch of government is limited in power to prevent one branch from becoming more powerful than another.

Some examples which support the idea of limited government include having set documents to apply restricts clearly, having a system of checks and balances and lastly giving the people a voice or vote.

Extra from class
- The government power is limited
- Important because we want to prevent a monarchy or dictatorship and give the power to the people instead

Checks and balances is the process of regulating a system to create balance by checking on the other branches in order to prevent one branch from doing an action which would give them more power than the constitution states.

Some examples of checks and balances is that if a President veto's a bill created by the Congress. But to prevent the President from vetoing every bill he disagrees with, Congress can come together and with a 2/3 majority vote are able to override the veto created. Another example is that to maintain peace as much as possible, the President is not able to declare war himself. In order for war to be declared, Congress must approve along with the President. This helps to prevent corruption in the White House and also to maintain peace between countries.

Extras from class
- Government power is divded between brance
-Legislative makes the laws
- Executive can veto the laws
- Judicial can judge the laws and determine of it is constitutional

Popular Sovereignty says that the people get a say in most of the decisions. If every person is not able to have their own say, there will be an elected person of that area which will voice their area's opinion.

One example is when Slavery was a large problem in the United States, some states were given the right to vote on whether their state would allow slavery to occur or not. A second example is that the people are able to vote for the president, house representatives and also the senators. This gives the people a voice because the vote for the person who also expresses their same ideas.

Extra from class
- the power given to the government is from the people and decided by then instead of the government
- The people have more power
- People vote to get power
- People can run for office

Federalism requires there to be multiples levels of government to prevent too much control and also to give the people a more direct voice on smaller decision which the federal government may not have a say in.

The first example is that there is a federal government which will make the major decisions like if laws pass or if war is declared. A second example is if a certain state will require face covering in school. This is left to the state government because some states have a larger spread of the virus than others. This specific example is not needed to be handled by the federal government and this will also help to give the people more control on what occurs, to a certain degree.

Extras from class-
- Government power is divided into levels
- this helps to divide the power
- Federal, state, local
- Some powers are divided
- Some powers are shared

Equality of Citizens means that no matter your race or beliefs etc. You will still have the same equality as everyone else in the country.

An example is that an African American male on trial will get the same fair trial as the White man who committed the same exact crime.
