A Reflection on the "Risks of Asteroid Strike to Earth from Elon Musk's Starlink Project Feared" by Mariwen Alemios

December 10, 2019- In an attempt to provide internet to all corners of the globe, Elon Musk's Starlink project will gradually send tens of thousands of satellites into the earth's orbit. But some astronomers believe the project could increase the chances of asteroid hits to earth.
Space agencies like NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and astronomers make use of telescopes to track near-earth objects that could pose a threat to earth in the future. However, the task will become extremely difficult when telescopes have to filter out tens of thousands of Starlink satellites that are already in the earth's orbit.
A few months back, while interacting with followers on Twitter, the Tesla founder revealed that humans do not have a proper shield to protect the planet from doomsday asteroids. He made the comments when one of his followers asked whether asteroid Apophis will hit earth in 2029. "Great name! Wouldn't worry about this particular one, but a big rock will hit Earth eventually & we currently have no defense," wrote Musk on Twitter. However, later Musk called NASA's planetary defense mission 'Armageddon', prompting fears that something sinister from deep space was on its way to earth.

For me, there are possible good and bad things that elon musk satellites can bring
The good thing it will bring is speeding up the internet in our world and it's because of the satellites, and it cost a lot just because of the good it can bring to people because of its good internet that people won't have problems in any place, and It is up to the countries to make satellites for their country and these satellites can detect asteroids which will be of great help to us to prevent widespread damage and these satellites also have their own ability to not can affect us.
And the bad thing this will cause for me is that scientists will no longer be able to see the changes in our planets, asteroids, and even comets because of the many satellites that are blocking and orbiting the earth and its debris may fall causing people to worry because of the damage it will cause and the satellites may also be the cause of people's addiction to gadgets because of its good connection, and it is also possible that the satellite this will cause countries to fight because of the connection it causes.

These satellites may be useful, but on the other hand, they also have harm to us, I hope this satellite will be the solution to our problem and not our companion. I hope the results of these satellites will be good.

It may be that these satellites will cause asteroids to hit our planet because scientists or educators will no longer be able to see the approaching asteroids due to blocked satellites, especially since our planet will be filled with satellites when they arrive. of 2029, especially since asteroids are only in our galaxy and we don't know when they will hit so there is a high possibility of hitting our planet, but satellites would not be the reason for us to be destroyed.

Being student for me thier is some possibilities that Elon Musk's project have some advantages and disadvantages for our Earth. The advantages of Elon Musk's project it can may improves internet speeds and reduces latency levels.Because with high speed Internet, pages will load at a faster than average speed and will require less page reloading. As many people enjoy browsing the Internet with many tabs open, without a high speed connection this becomes an issue. But we need to put some focus in the Disadvantages of Elon Musk's project the Starlink.Thier is 5 Biggest Disadvantages on Elon Musk's project. For me this 3 disadvantage is the most not good for us because the internet is essential for our everyday use

1.SLOWER AND LESS RELIABLE THAN CABLE.... Despite the fact that Starlink is one of the fastest satellite internet providers, it simply can't compete with cable internet. If speed is what you're looking for, cable internet is going to be much faster overall, as explained by Satellite Internet. While satellite internet excels at providing wide ranges of coverage, speed gets sacrificed. Starlink can provide internet at speeds of 50 to 250 MBs for $99 a month plus $499 for the installation kit, according to The Verge. This is a bit slower than typical cable internet, and more so than fiber internet.Starlink also offers a premium package at $500 a month for speeds of 150 to 500 MBs, with an additional $2,500 fee for the antennae. This, however, is a cost-prohibitive barrier for those seeking discount internet, and this package is targeted more towards businesses and offices. Still, similar or better speeds are available at a much more affordable rate by top cable internet providers.

2.OBSTRUCTIONS CAN CAUSE CONNECTIVITY ISSUES....
Another aspect of satellite internet that can become an issue is obstructions. This could be anything that interrupts the signal coming from the satellite, Starlink included. The terminals need to be set up in an area with a completely clear sky overhead, or else they can become subject to a number of obstructions. This could be difficult if you live in a heavily populated or densely forested area. This can also make setting up the terminal more of a hassle if you're having trouble getting an unobstructed view of the sky. Cable internet isn't as affected by problems like this as it doesn't need an open sky view to function properly. This is, however, a reason that Starlink could, in the future, be more suited to open, rural areas rather than cities where there are tall buildings and other objects that could be in the way of the sky.

3.WON'T WORK AS WELL IN CITIES...
With satellite internet, in large cities you'll usually find things can slow down quite a bit. This is because everyone in that city who is using the same provider is sharing bandwidth from the satellites passing over it. Since there are bound to be many more people in cities using the same provider, this impacts internet speed. In rural or suburban areas, where satellite internet can be more useful, this won't be as much of an issue. Every type of internet provider can have its downsides, you just need to know if any of them are a deal breaker for you. When it comes to Starlink, it's a good option for those living in rural areas, especially when more coverage gets added. It's also a good option if you want to save a bit of money with self-installation, and generally it's not very pricy compared to other providers.

Article Link: https://www.slashgear.com/905798/the-5-biggest-disadvantages-of-starlink-internet/

Based on what i read on article link
"Risks of asteroid strike to earth from Elon Musk's Starlink project feared".
The Space Agencies like Nasa and Astronomer thier possibilities that the Starlink Satilite can destroy that could pose a threat to earth in the future. But I think we should still think on how can Starlink Satilite can we decreased chances of the Starlink Satilite can't hit the Earth. So we can have and speed internet.

-Denise Faye Caole

In everything that we do there will always be the Cause-Effect relationship. And it could be a positive effect or a negative effect.
On what I have read "A Reflection on the Risks of Asteroid Strike to Earth from Elon Musk's Starlink Project Feared". Many will might be worried specifically about what would really could happen.

Elon Musk's Starlink project about sending thousands of satellites into the Earth's Orbit to provide internet to all corners of the planet is a promising one. But about viewing conditions in general it has a good intention also a big question about what will happen. Because sending thousands of satellites into the Earth's orbit will give difficulties for Astronomers to track down and view via telescope the things that may cause a harm to our planet like big meteors.

Not as much as you might think. But yes, the more things we put in orbit the harder it becomes to identify incoming objects. For me, why not Elon Musk's Starlink Project continue and for the Astronomers and NASA will upgrade their instruments like a bigger telescope for a clearer view. Both things can be done for a better result.

In my opinion Elon Musk's idea of starlink where he will send thousands of satellites into orbit wich will help with internet and communication around the globe is indeed very helpful but not with its drawbacks like the risk of these satellites hitting each other, the prevention of space travel keeping us stuck on earth and most importantly the blockage of vision over Near Earth Objects or NEO.these possible problems may seem far from happening but once these satellites are in their places a lot of people will realize if a single one of them collides with one another it will cause a chain reaction and will be catastrophic to us humans. What Elon Musk needs to do is work more on starlink until all previously mentioned problems because at the moment all problems outweigh the benefits of starlink.

Elon Musk said on Twitter that some asteroids are headed for earth in the future. These space rocks can pose a extinction level threat to all life on earth and as Elon Musk said in the same tweet that we do not have the capabilities to stop or dodge those asteroids. But I believe that us humans can prevent this if research on space rocks prove succesful and bear fruit by showing us how to destroy or dodge these apocalyptic asteroids wich are on a crash course towards earth in the near future. But as you read this now we can only wait on what may happen in the world of science and their breakthroughs that can contribute towards saving all life on earth.

For me, the project by Elon Musk or "Starlink" have his own advantage and disadvantages. Starlink would be or has been a life changer when it comes to providing internet to underserved areas. But if you are considering Starlink as your internet service provider, it helps to know the pros and cons. In this article, I’m going to cover the biggest disadvantages of Starlink.

First of all the price, how expensive starlink can be? For the Residential plan, you will pay $110 a month, with an up front equipment cost of $599. Starlink isn’t much more expensive than other satellite internet services. But it is much more expensive than fiber, cable, and 5G.

Second the coverage is still lacking.

there are still quite a few areas where it's inaccessible due to lack of capacity. Besides the U.S., there are many other countries where Starlink won't be available until the next year, or even longer. These include all of Asia and more other countries.Starlink does plan to offer coverage to these countries, but it's going to take even longer. This disadvantage isn't terrible, as it's mostly a waiting game for Starlink which will be addressed as it continues to launch more satellites or get regulatory approvals in other more countries.

Third, slower and less reliable than cable.

Based of the article i read, the fact that Starlink is one of the fastest satellite internet providers, it simply can't compete with cable internet. This is a bit slower than typical cable internet.

Fourth the fear from asteroid hiting the earth. When we have 42,000 satellite on the earth's orbit, the NASA will have a hard time watching or looking for the chances the asteroid might hit the earth, even they will use a telescope the task will be extremely difficult when telescope have to filter out tens of thousands starlink satellite. And we also have the risk of the satellite hitting each other, and travelling into the space would be also difficult with so many satellites, the scientists will also have a hard time trying to watch or study the asteroids.

Lets move on with the benefits of starlink, starlink can make our internet go or work faster, and it will satisfy a lot of netizens using it, it will also help a lot of people by the improve of the network that they using, and also it will make our life easier with a better network. Pages will load faster and to those people who enjoy browsing tru facebook, tiktok and instagram. To those people who had dreamt to use an better network for work, school and also lifestyle will also be satisfied with Starlink, but is risking the disadvantages of the "Starlink" would be worth it?

Peachy Anne C.

Based on Elon Musk "I've not yet met someone who can tell me where all of them are,not even one person. It can't be that big deal". There are some reasons why Elon Musk starlink project, could make Earth vulnerable, and it can be improves our internet speed all over the world. The starlink project aims to put thousands of satellites in low Earth orbit. He promised that the satellites would be re-engineered if needs to avoid interfering with atronomical observations. I am confident that they will not cause any impact whatsoever in astronomical discoveries. Starlink is the name of a satellite network developed by the private sapcefight company SpaceX to provide low-cost internet to remote locations. Satellite broadband project that will eventually send ten thousands of satellites orbiting the Earth to deliver internet to every corner of the globe. Some of the followers on Twitter made some comments asked whether asteroids Apophis will hit earth in 2029.

For Me, Yes Elon Musk's Launch Of "Star Link" will Greatly Help us For Communication, Faster internet and it can also help prevent buffering or lag spikes all around the globe. those are the pros. THE CONS however are very dangerous.

The First con about this is that The more Satellites are in the solar system, the harder it is to detect objects that are in close proximity of the earth which could cause a risk of not detecting a meteor or asteroid heading toward earth.

The Second con about this that the satellites could have a chance in bumping into each other which could make a risk of it falling back to earth and causing damage to whatever direction the ruble is going towards.

The Third con about it is that it could disrupt the search of NEW planets that are near our galaxy. OR Even dangerously nearby forming black holes. Black Holes are basically spherical shaped orbs in space that gravity pulls so much things in that even light cant get out, This is already a dangerous risk on its own.

Lastly the time it takes to move from one side of the earth to another. yes it may be beneficial for the people near the satellites, but the people that aren't in close proximity with the satellites will have a more slower and non efficient internet or signal speed.

Though it may be beneficial to us because of faster internet connections and signals. It is Not beneficial for our survival against things orbiting the solar system, Since there are 600,000 known asteroids in our solar system there might be a high possibility that one of those 600,000 asteroids might hit earth and cause severe damage. It has been said from Elon musk that there are asteroids heading towards earth in the future. But this is just the beginning, Who knows what kind of technology or weapons people will create in order to prevent any of this from happening. But that's just a theory, we will all find out what's in store for us in the future.

Everyone knows that some people just can't have internet because of very expensive cables but that would be no more when SpaceX launches its internet satellite it's about 12,000 satellite's in the next three years but, Elon musk wanted to add 30,000 more so that's a total of 42,000 satellite's there are also 1,325 satellites currently and they are sending out 60 as at a time. that will provide internet but of course, there are always risks to this.

First of all, when the sunlight hits the satellite it will glow like a star during dawn and sunset that may sound nice but remember astronomers during that time will need to detect asteroids and black holes that might have a coalition course with Earth when these satellites glow as bright as a star I doubt that you see anything when you're looking through a telescope
although they are covering it with visors but also they added a material called "Dark sat" to cover the shiniest parts of the satellite but that does not solve the problem completely.

Secondly, the most common worries are the satellites crashing into each other like a cycle when one satellite crashes into another it usually becomes a chain reaction the crash will make space debris and that hits another satellite, and so on and so forth that's what we call Kessler syndrome
If we reach that point space would be too unsafe to explore removing any chance of colonizing mars or any other planet not only that but when we find an asteroid that's heading to earth we can't do anything about it because of the amount of space debris we have to cross to direct its course to another direction so essentially if an asteroid is spotted there is no hope for humanity.

Last and foremost, Since the SpaceX program has become so popular the other nations that can compete are making their own space program and if we already consider the risk of 42,000 Satellites orbiting around the earth this would be disastrous if anything goes wrong even the slightest error would close us off from ever exploring or even seeing space again.

I really hope that none of these happen.
-Bono bravo

This generation, according to NASA, will never see a comet, asteroid, or any coming space object hitting and destroying earth like what happened in Don’t Look Up. However, the Starlink project is a threat as the earth already has millions of satellite debris surrounding earth. When two of the smallest particles collide, they would cause a big bad impact on earth. Moreover, these satellites blur the filter that NASA uses to monitor foreign bodies approaching earth. Hence, as much as possible, NASA has to regulate sending satellites.

The advantages of these satellite according to what I've read, the internet will no longer lag as a result of these satellites, which will make it faster than the previous internet signal. Additionally, it can assist employees and students who need internet access.

Elon Musk is a genius and a scientist but he is also a billionaire and a businessman. His interest may precede his genius. This is a debate which we lack information about.

Elon Musk, a billionare and the CEO of spacex. One of his great projects he has ever done is the starlink launching 47,000 satellites to orbit the Earth. Now the question is that would it really have a good outcome considering the fact that one of the best reason for him to do this is probably for us to have the best and stabilize internet connection, well actually that sounds good because internet connection is also a problem for us to deal with however, let us also consider the negative sides of it.

1. Collisions of satelite - well of course it is no surprise that there will be a collision of satellites with that amount of satellites orbiting the Earth.

2. Space exploration would be affected - it will be a hardtime for the scientists to look out for something out of the sky because it is blocked by tens of thousands of satellites meaning that it will be much more harder for us to explore.

3. Satellites can also be a man made meteors - when a satellite doesn't have a thruster or when the satellite usually doesn't have enough speed it will have a high chance of crashing into the Earth's surface, of course it needs to generate more speed because gravity still exists and by meaning is that it can cause a severity into our planet.

This is a good project because it covers up a really good reason for this to be built however it would be a waste of money, yes Elon Musk can cover up that amount of money but imagine spending billions of dollars to build a satellite just for the cons mentioned a while ago to take over. And it is also a big of a gamble because having a good network will be an adiction for us to stay uo all night on social media or online games. Soo yeahh I think it is a good project but has a bad outcome in the future

-Leslie Ian O. Soriano
8-mendel

For me, The Starlink of SpaceX makes me amazed on how Elon Musk's Projects are providing High Technology Related Project's that makes the World a lot Modern. Starlink promised to provide nearly instantaneous internet in every corner of the world. But it will cost a big budget and expecting 42,000 satellites that will orbit the planet to pull this Starlink Project, But it will affect it's main goal on providing internet to the world to connect other countries and to use it for media. But how do SpaceX's 42,000 Satellites affect the planet Earth?

1. The Number of Satellites= Imagine 42,000 Satellites orbiting Earth? For me it is very absurd for these many satellites to be orbiting the Earth only to provide Internet. For me underground cables are fine just to provide internet, Moreover that this absurd number of Satellites will cause a lot of collision to each satellites. Increasing space debris found in the low Earth orbit. Space debris impacts Earth's environment and atmosphere by releasing compositional chemicals into the atmosphere. These chemicals can deplete ozone, and the debris also poses a threat to future launches and space exploration.

2. A pain for Astronomers= These Starlink Satellites are bright, they reflect the sunlight and shine it back towards Earth. Making the satellites look like bright moving stars, Imagine as an Astronomer, looking at your telescope being distrupted and annoyed by these bright objects, then you realized that the bright objects were the 42,000 satellites orbiting Earth. These distrupt the detection of near-Earth objects such as Asteroids or Meteoroids that are being monitored by Astronomers. Increasing the chance of near-Earth objects to past closely near Earth and other's might even hit the Earth that can lead to catastrophe.

There are many other disadvantages that Starlink can offer such as price, customer service, network congestion, pollution, desertification etc.

For me, Starlink can really put a greater harm than good, even though it provide us connections but it is still not free, you still need to pay and it is much expensive than fiber or 5G. Other countries needed to contact SpaceX for them to deliver Satellites and to have a contract however it's capabilities of connections are still limited and hoping to produce absurd amount of satellites for a project that are limited and hoping to have good result that we never doubt. So Starlink is not worth it.
-King James R.

According to my research about "Risks of Asteroid Strike on Earth from Elon Musk's Starlink Project Feared," Elon Musk’s reasoning for launching tens of thousands of satellites into the earth’s orbit,

is him hoping to increase the low-latency high-speed internet in every corner of the world. However, in my opinion, his project may possibly have both advantages and disadvantages. Just as we do in our everyday life, we do not expect our days to be perfect, there will be unexpected circumstances that we aren't expecting such as advantages and disadvantages.

To begin with the benefits of his idea, the major purpose he created it was to offer high-speed satellite internet to every area or corner of the world. This reduces connection delay, buffering, and provides practically immediate internet access. Starlink satellites are most visible in the night sky during dawn and dusk, when astronomers are looking for near-Earth objects (NEO) or asteroids that could collide with our planet and cause disaster that could possibly harm us.

Let's move on with the disadvantages of his idea. One issue is when there are too many satellites in the closest, tightest, and densest orbits around the Earth. There is a greater risk that those satellites may collide with one another or with other satellites, resulting in clouds of debris that can orbit the Earth for years or centuries, and that debris can trigger more satellites to collide, resulting in even more debris. Scientists stated that they are doing all possible way to avoid collusions, but some satellites have already been disabled, and those concerned that it will be more difficult to deploy the planned 42.000 satellites, as well as it will cost more money.

However, if they all got their way with little to no regulation, we may end up with 100,000 satellites encasing our planet within the next decade, raising the risk of blocking off space for everyone.

-Erika Mae U.

Starlink is a project produced by Elon Musk, a billionaire entrepreneur known as one of the richest people in the world. Musk introduced his project to set out thousands of satellites to create a global network that could give or provide people high-speed internet access. In my opinion it’s great to have high-speed internet access in order for people to search what they need to know on the internet easier and won’t have to wait for the page to load slowly. But of course that doesn’t mean this project didn’t encounter some criticisms or controversies, For example some astronomers raised their concerns that the project might increase the chances of asteroids to hit earth. Of course no one wants an asteroid to hit earth, that’s just you know crazy. But aside from all of the concerns and controversies, there are pros about this project, like if it has the potential to provide internet access to some people who live in remote places, then it would be a game-changer for those who have limited or no access to the internet. Plus it would be easier for us to search anything we want, with no slow and loading pages or websites. This project will be a big game-changer for us in the future because it will make our lives easier. While this project has the potential to affect how we access the internet, it also might increase the chances of asteroids to hit the earth.

-Favian Zavier M.
Elon musk's 42,000 satellites from Starlink could change our life for the better, I mean could you even imagine?! With those satellites, it could provide us with wifi everywhere at a low price. No offense but we're literally glued to the screens of our cell phones, tablets, laptops, etc. We need it for homework, entertainment, emergencies, and I could name so much more. Lost, or injured? Then pull out your phone and call for help. You need to pass a paper due in 10 minutes but coincidentally you're in the middle of nowhere? Well then just pull out your cell phone and pass that paper in no time. It would be that easy. Might I mention about 3 billion which is about 37% of our population has no proper access to wifi, I believe that in that 3 billion individuals there is someone who could really change the world for the better, but they cannot do anything since they lack the material like the internet. With those 42,000 satellites, those 3 billion individuals can now do something. But as they say, with every advantage there will always be a disadvantage. First, let's mention how it would create light pollution, and it's devastating, especially for me, cause with light pollution we can never really appreciate the night sky. That so-called "stargazing" would be gone and never to be used again. Might I mention Starlink satellites are most visible in the night sky right before dawn and night which is the exact time that astronomers are hunting for NEO or asteroids, objects that could hit the earth and possibly harm us. As more satellites go up so does the likelihood that they'll interfere with astronomers' views, and if Starlink continues to be a problem for these types of sky surveys, we may not have as much notice as we want to detect a NEO and prevent it from hitting the earth, it could also disturb or obstruct the search for new planets and even black holes, but even if they added a very dark material to the shiny parts of the satellite it would still disturb the astronomers. Also with that many satellites, there's a possibility that those satellites might crash into each other and would create clouds of debris that can orbit the earth for years, decades, or even centuries! What I'm trying to say is all those debris could pollute space which is really bad. With that much debris orbiting the earth, there is a higher possibility that those space junk might just make its landfall on Earth. Might I add that satellites only have a lifespan of 5-15 years This makes us wonder if the 42,000 satellites that Elon Musk plans to send to space really is worth it considering the casualties that come with it.

1. THE HECK IS STARLINK??
- Okay so, as we all know the internet is one of the most essential things for people nowadays. When I heard about the "Starlink Project" of Elon Musk I was genuinely interested and impressed at the innovation and imagination of this project. The goal of the Starlink Project is to provide internet around the whole world, that's right the whole world. Using tons and I mean TONS of money Elon Musk is planning on launching a total of 42,000 satellites in the upcoming years for said project. For the Starlink Project they are planning on launching thousands upon thousands of satellites that orbit the globe at a distance of roughly 22,000 miles above the Earth, which would rotate along with the Earth and provide faster internet speeds due to the close proximity of these satellites. Now you would say "Woah that's actually pretty cool!" but trust me it is not that good for us.

2. "WOAHHH!!!!" - Some people probably
- The Starlink Project is a very very ambitious project even for companies like SpaceX. I mean providing internet around the globe? If you said that to some random caveman back in the Stone Age they would have said "OOGA BOOGA" then probably kill you. The internet is just amazing, providing information you with all the information you need, serving people needs and pleasures like online shopping for groceries or just shopping for random things you want or simply just playing games that would be impossible without the internet. It also saves lives by providing an easy way for people to get help by calling emergency response teams like the police or simply searching up how to perform a life saving maneuver. It could even save relationships by letting people who have access to the internet call or message their loved ones maintaining their relationship even when you're far away. So with Starlink's satellites people around the world with cellphones or any gadgets can have the pleasure of using this amazing example of our capabilities and potential for a better and advanced tomorrow, anywhere at any time and it could save a whole lot of money because there would be less of a need to build different structures for internet connection.

3. "NO!!!!!!" -Some random astronomer probably
- Alright the Starlink Project does sound cool but it really does not sit well with organizations that live for space exploration/ astronomy such as NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration). Like I mentioned, right now the satellites were launched into low-earth orbit in close proximity to each other for faster and continuous connection, this is a good idea but at the same time think about how this could affect astronomy. Astronomy is the study of basically the physical universe as a whole, like celestial bodies, stars, etc. They also study Near Earth Objects (NEO) which are celestial bodies such as asteroids and comets near the Earth that could potentially hit Earth. One of our biggest assets for the detection and observation of NEO's are ground-based telescopes. These telescopes plays a huge role in the observation and monitoring of celestial bodies, so these satellites can disrupt these operations due to their compact style and how close they are to Earth, not to mention some parts of the satellites reflect sunlight causing the satellites to look like big streaks of light like shooting stars. Not only will it disrupt the observation of NEO's but it could also negatively affect how we could advance our knowledge of our universe, causing a problem for detecting or searching for new planets and/or black holes. SpaceX the company of Elon Musk has tried to conceal the shining parts of satellites with dark materials to no avail. But the danger does not stop there, it is also a possibility for these satellites to collide with one another causing the destruction and pollution of the Earth's orbit which could significantly harm the world of Astronomy even with the automated system that allows the satellites to dodge one another.

4. "Hmmmm" - Me
- In conclusion the Starlink Project is both an amazing and dangerous thing for the us. In my opinion the Starlink Project should be stopped. If the satellites of this project will disturb the advancement of our understanding about the universe we live in then it should no longer go on, providing internet around the world is a great thing but if the cost is disrupting our continuous learning about the universe then it is not worth it anymore. Imagine the things we could do and the things we could discover in space, the possibilities are endless and as human beings we have a curiosity that most of the time we can not resist. We have barely scratched the surface of space exploration and the things we could do in space so why let that stop just for the internet? Look at the big picture, there's a whole universe out there just waiting to be discovered. The things we could achieve in astronomy is far greater than what we can accomplish right now. Thank you...

- Roland Peter C. Cusi
8-Mendel

Reflection on Elon Musk's Starlink Project

According to what I've seen and studied about Elon Musk's Starlink Project, there are some positive aspects but there are also concerns.

Elon Musk's proposal is about
thousands of satellites being launched into the earth's orbit.
He wants to achieve the idea of increasing and spreading high-speed internet over the entire planet. Many individuals, especially students like me, may greatly benefit from it and people all across the world will have access to services for education, health, and even communications throughout natural disasters. Starlink can provide high-speed broadband internet in places where connection has previously been spotty or nonexistent.

Now we will discuss its downsides.
Like I indicated, the Starlink initiative has the potential to significantly benefit many individuals. But, the presence of too many satellites in the nearest, and densest orbits around the Earth, however, is one of its drawbacks.
These satellites can possibly collide with one another or with other satellites, those collisions will be creating clouds of debris that might stay in orbit above the Earth for decades and will possibly cause a cycle of collisions and creating more and more debris.
Light pollution is a potential issue. Furthermore, it would prevent further scientific advancement.
The planet may also get those fragments of debris.

The sun is reflected back at earth by the Starlink satellites, which are likewise quite bright. It will appear to be moving stars, which may be cool, but it can also make it harder for astronomers to see whether there are any objects in the universe that might accidentally strike us.
Starlink satellites are most visible in the night sky just before dawn and just after nightfall. That is when astronomers are looking for those things.

Because of the benefits and drawbacks, my opinion of Starlink is essentially in the middle.
Also can benefit a lot of people, but it limits astronomers' access to observing the solar system or
objects that might cause us damage.
Getting rid of and having solutions to those disadvantages would be great.

That concludes my view at the Starlink Project of Elon Musk. Thank You po!

Jade B. Bolaños
8 Mendel

Elon Musk and SpaceX launched a satellite project called "Starlink". Based on what I've watched and read, Starlink is a internet-beaming satellites orbiting the Earth that allows you to connect to the internet no matter where you are and provides a low-latency network.

Elon Musk intends to launch 42,000 Starlink satellites in space. Which I believe would pose significant risks to us. If SpaceX launches more satellites into Earth's orbit, Astronomers will be unable to observe (NEO) Near Earth Objects or asteroids that may hit Earth due to the big amount of the satellites blocking the Earth's orbit. Also, because the number of satellites is increasing, there is a greater chance that they will crash with each other or with other satellites. These crashed satellites would generate debris clouds that could orbit the Earth for years or even decades.

Qwyny Racel Bolsico

“Starlink”, a name that has been considered as one of the biggest projects ever known to solve the one biggest problem we are facing: Free Internet ranging from all around the world, while gradually sending 42,000 satellites for this project to actually be finished, people have theorized “what if” scenarios and concluded different opinions and predictions on what's going to happen to our home planet: Earth. On how this might solve everyones internet problem, while also risking our safety to Near Earth Objects (NEO’S) and other celestial bodies lurking around the cold void beyond our solar system. But, everything has a “Yin and Yang” side or in a simple manner: a “Positive and Negative side”, and we are going to tackle the Positive side of the “Starlink” project first.

Positive Effects:

Internet Connection problem solved

With the launching of the project “Starlink”, we will have authorization to access free Internet Connection all around the globe.

for me , and what i've seen, Elon Musk's internet project could increase the chances of an asteroid hitting earth, according to some astronomers. The project will send tens of thousands of satellites into the earth's orbit in a bid to provide internet access to all parts of the world - but also increase the risk of space rock impacts. Nasa and astronomers make use of telescopes to track near-earth objects that could pose a threat to earth in the future. However, the task will become extremely difficult when telescopes have to filter out tens of thousands of Starlink satellites that are already in the earth's orbit.
Astronomer John McDowell believes the science community should have prevented projects like Starlink before they began. Speaking exclusively to Axios, he said: "We should have been on this 10 years ago and we didn't see it coming".Tesla co-founder Elon Musk has revealed that humans do not have a proper shield to protect the planet from doomsday asteroids. He made the comments when one of his followers asked whether asteroid Apophis will hit earth in 2029, but a big rock will hit Earth eventually & we currently have no defense. Musk called Nasa's planetary defense mission 'Armageddon', prompting fears that something sinister from deep space was on its way to earth.

Roda Anne Vidal
8-Mendel

Rock-filled spacecraft called asteroids orbit the sun but are too tiny to be referred to as planets. They go by the names, planetoids or small planets as well. Asteroids are in the millions and range in size from hundreds of miles to a few feet. The combined mass of all asteroids is less than that of the moon of Earth. The Starlink Satellite is an expensive constellation that can make our internet connection as fast as possible, with no buffering, but it also has drawbacks when it comes to space exploration, such as the possibility of harming us when starlight is visible in the night sky, just before dawn and just after dust, which is precisely the time for astronomers to strike Earth. Another drawback is the so-called Kessler Syndrome, a hypothetical situation in which parts of Earth's orbit are overpopulated with objects and garbage, making it impossible to use satellites there. There are internet connections available in only half of the world. According to video, Starlink is a global internet that allows you to access the internet from anywhere in the world. If this starlink develops, it will have a net worth of $30–$50 billion annually.
