An effective villain or antagonist often has different goals than the hero or protagonist, which can get in the way. Usually the villain believes that they are doing the right thing, and that they are the true hero in a story. Not all antagonists are necessarily evil. An effective villain should also be a good person to stand against the hero. It would be hard to name my favorite villain/antagonist because most of the books I have read recently don't really have villains. The characters I've read about often face obstacles, but there isn't one person or organization they're against.

The characteristics of a villain can be anything, I think, silly to diabolical. It all depends on who the character is. It makes them different from the hero, because they are usually fighting for the opposite of what each other want. My favorite villain is Cruella DeVil. She is so eccentric. I've never seen another villian like her. Plus, she has her own song.

an effective antagonist is someone that doesn't leave the hero waiting and is very cunning. They also have hidden weaknesses. they are different from the hero probably because they have different beliefs and stand for different things, or because they want to wreak havoc and the hero doesn't want that. My favorite antagonist is Ben Linus from Lost, he's very cunning and knows how to get under the hero's skin. He's also extremely manipulative and violent.

While heros spend their lives helping everyone they can, villains try to oppose them, and cause A LOT of collateral damage. my favorite antagonist is Loki, ( in the real myths, not the marvel movies) because his actions are almost justified by his childhood.

To me effective villains or antagonist is just as interesting as protagonists because they have flawed human traits, like greed and the want to be remembered, just like protagonists. The thing that makes them different from heroes is that with villains they let their darker side take control of them and used their anger or greed to make them stronger. I think my favorite villain is Syndrome from the Incredibles, because I can relate to being ignored by someone you look up to and thinking that the only way you could prove yourself to them was by beating them.

An effective antagonist, in my opinion, has a reason to be bad. (I don't like when villains go "let's take over the worlddddd" and don't say why they want to take over the world.) What makes an antagonist different from the protagonist is that the antagonist is always doing things to make the world worse or trying to stop the protagonist, while the protagonist tries to make the world better. My favorite villain is the holy Hilk church from the book "Skeleton Knight in Another World". I like how they are a church, who say that they want to help the world be a better place, but they are actually trying to assassinate royals and destroy cities.

Effective villains or antagonists are described in great detail and have a very clear personality. Whether that character is more of a flimsy, comical villain or a sadistic, manipulative, and emotionless monster, describing that effect that the villain has on the room really brings that story together. Making the villain different from the hero has been something that I have seen done differently in many books. I think something that works very well is relationship between the two (or more who knows) characters. Seeing the too interact and being able to see those opposites are something that helps us see the differences more clearly as we read on. I don't particularly have a favorite villain and/or antagonist at the moment. This is probably because I have not read a book that had an "outstanding" villain character. In both of my favorite books, there was not one sole antagonist and I think that adds a certain effect to the book as well. You do not always need someone clearly "evil" in a plot to make a good story.

I think that the antagonist has to differ from the rest of the crowd. He has to have the willpower to oppose evil. Personally, I think he has to be cunning and smart. Also, I think the antagonist has too have a interesting backstory.
My favorite antagonist(for this moment) is Tyrion Lannister. I like him, because in the story you can observe him changing his perspective. Since he cannot fight, he has to be sly and smart to remain alive. Also, in the story, you can't really tell who is the protagonist. Everyone just fights others for control.

An effective antagonist is a character who has bad intent because of something that has happened to them in the past, or greed. They usually are opposing the protagonist who is trying to stop there wrong-doing. At the very end of the book, movie, or series, the protagonist usually wins. I really don't have a favorite antagonist although a like most antagonists as long as they are not corny. I especially like antagonists who have good intent, but there actions are wrong, because i like to see their way of thinking.

Most heroes have to face through many predicaments to catch up. The greatest villain should always be 10 steps ahead, that's right, 10, not just one. What makes it even BETTER is when the villain has a backstory revealed with the hero. Whether if the villain turns out to have been a betrayer, or the person who was there with the hero in his/her childhood. Or the fact that the character was presumed dead with scientific evidence. Or maybe if it's just all about how the villain knows everything and is part of something bigger. When a crime lord has complete overtake of the city, or when he/she has everyone on a payroll or dirt on them. Its always so interesting when mysteries are revealed, or when it's always coming unexpected. You always want a surprising advantage.
