perimeter is the outside of the outlining of the shape so you measure the outside. The area is the inside of the shape. To measure the area, say the shape was 6 by 7 you have to times 6 x 7 which will = the area. lots of shapes could have the same measurement of perimeter for example 6 by 4 = a perimeter of 24 so does 3 by 8. the perimeter is the space on the outside of the shape so you just count the squares right out side the shape.
