This is an article on the importance of teaching queer history in schools. I feel very strongly about this subject because it is vital for queer people, especially queer youth to feel seen and for their cishet peers to understand the history of queer people and the queer rights movement.

The book "October Mourning" by Leslea Newman I read as a freshman in high school, it was something I'd picked up knowing nothing about Matthew Shepard, I was just looking for a shorter book to read for an English class. After reading this book I felt like this was something I should have learned in a history class, and I wondered how many stories like his had been left out of the curriculum.
