B1 Anastasia Thomopoulou and Kallifatidou Markella

Nowadays, there is a deeply ingrained belief that social media hides dangers. Although nothing could be further from the truth. Every coin has two sides, so social media have many blessings but also drawbacks.

To begin with, they help communication between people all over the world so in this way , we keep contact with our friends and family . Secondly, because of social media we can express ourselves, we can share our thoughts, beliefs, and ideas. As a result we manage to communicate with the entire world . Last but not least , social media help us be informed about many issues that concern current affairs . So, social media is certainly instrumental in bettering every day life.

However, those who oppose to this extended use of social media, claim that it has so many drawbacks. One of the most significant disadvantages is, that it is linked to an increased risk of mental health problems like depression, anxiety, and loneliness. Moreover, the compulsive behavior developed due to social networking sites like Facebook, Instagram, Tiktok, YouTube, etc leads to negative effects such as addiction. Last but not least, since anyone can use and express on social networking sites, many use it to express hatred and aggression. That’s why many people are at risk of cyberbullying.

All things considered, social media is the tool for anyone to make the best use out of it. It’s up to us to decide to use it consciously and learn from it, rather than be controlled by it.

In our days, social media has become an important part of our lives. More and more people start using them. As a result, social media is becoming increasingly popular. However, the effect of social media on our everyday life becomes a controversial issue, since there is no clear answer concerning their impact on our way of living.

First of all, social media gives the opportunity of free expression to everyone, no matter what gender, colour or age they are. In this way, many people get the chance to express their minds and speak their truth without fear. Also, social media helps new and young artists to publish their work and get the recognition they truly deserve. In this way, many talented people can share their art (music, dancing, singing, drawing, e.t.c), which, under other circumstances, would be difficult to make known.Furthermore, social networks give us the possibility to communicate with each other regardless of distance ,all around the globe. So, we can still be connected even if we are miles apart. This can easily be achieved by texting, calls or even publications that social media provide us.

On the other hand, social media can have a negative impact on a person's psychology and health. One of the main problems of social media is addiction. The ideal world they present, absorbs the individual and makes him forget the real world. This has other side effects, such as isolating the person and making him more antisocial, as the media cuts him off from family and friends. Also, they negatively affect the health of the person, due to lack of sleep which can cause other diseases. Depression or other pessimistic emotions may also occur due to the idols social networks promote, which create feelings of low self-esteem to the person who feels like he is not good enough. Another problem they may cause is cyberbullying. The freedom of speech that media provide us and the anonymity that exists on the internet make bullying and negative comments easier than ever.

In conclusion, I would like to add that, concerning social media, there is no black and white, so we cannot clear up if they are positive or negative for our lives. But the point is, that we should try to use them wisely so as to minimize the problems and enjoy the positive side of them.

“The benefits and the drawbacks of social media”

Nowadays, more and more people are creating their own account on social media. It is true that in recent years they have gained great popularity and occupy a large part of our daily life. However, this does not mean that they can not be dangerous. We all need to know that social media have both advantages and disadvantages.

Starting with the benefits, social media are a world in which there are no physical borders so that everyone can have access to whatever knowledge interests him and communication with people from all over the world. In addition, social media provide information on political and economic life as well as artistic and cultural events. Last but not least, social media allow each of us to express our personal views on various issues and to judge positively or negatively the things that happen in the world and give ideas or suggest solutions to improve them.

Social media can be very interesting and offer a lot, but on the other hand they hide various pitfalls that can harm many people. First of all, we must mention that they are very addictive. Especially, teenagers tend to waste a lot of time on them and often prefer to be isolated so as to spend more and more time in front of a screen rather than hanging out with their friends or family. Furthermore, fake or malicious news are often spread on the internet that can mislead or offend many people. Finally, social media promote false standards of an ideal and perfect life, making people feel inferior and looking for money and fame so as to be happy.

To sum up, social media are great, full of knowledge, information and fun. Nevertheless, we must always remember that their proper use is very important because they can be very dangerous if we are reckless and immature.

             Social Media
Nowadays, more and more people start to use social media in their everyday life. A lot of opinions have been expressed about their daily use, some of which say that it is a curse and some that it is a blessing.

First of all, social media can connect people all over the world. Everybody can have a conversation with someone who they know, without living in the same city or even country. In addition to that, they may help people with their personal relationships because, through the internet, they can get to know new people with similar interests and discuss with them. Moreover, keeping contact with friends is easier during the quarantine period that we are going through. Furthermore, social media can inform users about everything that is taking place in their school, in their community, in their city, in their country and the world.

Although, there are a lot of opportunities that social media provide, their use involves plenty of serious problems. The most common problem is that people and especially teenagers spend a lot of their time on social media, ignoring their responsibilities during the day. Also, because of that they do not have much free time to go out, learn a new skill and enjoy the company that their friends provide. Additionally, when the users “log out” and meet each other in real life they cannot communicate properly because they are used to talking by messages and only seeing a screen, not the face reaction of another human. Finally, in social media people have the opportunity to shape their personality, that means that they can delete all the disadvantages that they have and create the “perfect” human.

In conclusion, social media are really useful in the everyday life of people. However, if somebody uses them incorrectly, they will have a bad impact in his life.

Social media

Nowadays, we are all realising that social media constitute a main part of our daily life. This is happening because they provide people with many possibilities that enable their lives. However, there are a number of arguments against social media that must be discussed.

One of the most significant advantages of social media is that they help people's communication. People have the opportunity to communicate with anyone, anytime they want. They can also keep in touch with old friends or even meet new people and make friendships with them. This means that they can exchange their views and ideas with others. Furthermore, social media provide people with the necessary information. Through posts, they inform the public on time and authoritatively about anything important that happens locally and globally. They, also, raise people's awareness about issues of society, promoting public debate for finding solutions.

On the other hand, a serious drawback of social media is that they are uncontrollable. The evolution of technology allows anyone to write whatever they want, sometimes news that doesn't correspond to the truth. Due to this fact, users receive a huge amount of information that they cannot control. Moreover, engagement with social media is not a creative utilisation of free time. People spend a lot of time on them without attending to their mental cultivation. So, they don't enjoy the benefits of free time, which creates in them the feeling of stress.

All in all, it seems to me that social media can be a blessing for some reasons, but they can also be a curse. However, this varies depending on how everyone chooses to use them.

With only a click we can communicate with people miles away from us and also only with a click we can buy stuff online which takes us away from going to the store. Lots of teens have been charmed by the screen and that can lead you to social exclusion and make you an introvert. Also, because of the huge amount of information people can get confused and they won’t be able to find the truth and the answers they want. Another big danger is fake profiles and 'catfish' and that is dangerous for the reason that your personal information and your private life in general can be stolen and be told to the outside world.

With that being said it’s understandable why we have to use the internet responsibly because it can be your biggest helper but it can also become your worst enemy!

It is generally known that our generation has been raised in the internet world. Many people consider the rise of technology a curse due to the damage it has caused to the youth. We have convinced ourselves that the internet, and especially social media, are the ones to blame for everything bad that is currently happening. But the thing is that the existence of social media has many perks and has improved in a certain way the quality of our lives.

For starters, taking into consideration the current situation with quarantine, via applications like skype, zoom etc. we get to interact with our friends and family and social distance simultaneously. Nowadays, the news is everywhere, and that’s thanks to social media. Emails and other types of internet messages were the old way of sharing information one-to-one but now with twitter, Instagram etc. literally everyone has access to it. Also, social media has been declared by many as the best way to raise awareness on particular issues. If it weren’t for social media, the ‘black lives matter’ movement, and others, would now be covered and police brutality would only worsen.

Nevertheless, despite the many advantages of social media it still has negative implications. To begin with, by using social media products we end up being the product. That’s because the companies running the social media we use, store our personal data and they sell them afterwards in order to make a profit. This becomes what academics like Zubbof have called “surveillance capitalism”. Also, the more we use social media the more addicted to it we become. Even though it seems harmless, it can cause various mental issues, such as depression and anxiety, and it can reduce our personal interactions. Last but not least, they give us the impression that everyone should have a ‘perfect body’ or the ‘perfect life’. The ‘influencers’ of social media promote a lifestyle that creates the illusion of a flawless world that everyone should live in.

To sum up, the advantages and disadvantages of social media are plenty.

By Karatzouli Helen Excellent!

Over the past decade, the popularity of social media has significantly increased because of their practical use as a tool in everyday life. However, it can be supported that the extended use would have harmful impact not only to our health but also to our personality. In other words, it’s about a controversial issue presenting an equally large number of benefits and drawbacks.

One of the most notable advantages is that social media give the opportunity to everybody to upload content expressing their personal opinion concerning a current affair. So, in this way more and more people can admire other aspects and become more open minded. Moreover, it offers free access to information to all their users, including students who can easily find any element they need about any of their school projects. Most importantly, it also provides a great platform for young budding artists to showcase their talent for free by sharing their great pieces of art. For them, during this difficult period, it’s an ideal solution to unemployment and for the rest of the users it’s an excellent chance to stay in contact with the world of art.

On the other hand, those who oppose social media claim that it may have disastrous effects for its users. A great number of individuals suffer from addiction since they waste their productive time using it. Especially, students can be distracted and lose their motivation. Additionally, these platforms permit access literally to everyone who can share everything, including inappropriate content, or can communicate via impersonal texts. That’s why there is a huge number of cases of cyberbullying. Apart from that, by refreshing the uploaded content we let others know personal information, such as our location. The problem presented is that this content can be used against us in the future because our history is saved.

The obvious conclusion to be drawn is that social media have numerous benefits for users. Nonetheless, there is always a negative aspect concerning any noteworthy issue. Certainly, by being responsible and conscious, any user has the opportunity to exploit the usefulness of social media for their good.

Of course, it can be argued that the use of social media has controversial aspects, namely both advantages and disadvantages.

First of all, the advantages of social media are undoubtedly various. One of the most significant benefits is the connection to other people all over the world. Because of its existence we can communicate with persons from different cultures.

         Social Media
Nowadays, the great progress of technology has brought many changes to our everyday lives. Social media are a pretty good example of the way technology has affected our communication or entertainment. It is already known that they have a lot of advantages, which we all use daily for our own benefit. However, this subject has become very controversial as there are many supporting the idea that social networking sites can only cause problems.

The most important advantage of social media use is, without a doubt, the fact that we can now get in touch with whoever we want, whenever or wherever we want. No matter what the distance or the circumstances, we can communicate with our friends or even make new friends from all over the world. Through applications or sites we can keep in touch with everyone. Also, we could all agree that by using them we can be informed about everything that is happening everywhere, almost instantly, and we are able to find information about anything we need easily and quickly. Our new ways of entertainment consists another great advantage, too. We have the ability to download music, movies, or even books on our phones or our computers, watch videos, or play games. All these are new options of how we can pass our free time with pleasure.

On the other hand, there are surely some problems coming out of the incorrect use of social media. First of all, the irrepressible occupation with them can lead many people to getting addicted to them and spending a lot of their precious time doing absolutely nothing but checking their platforms all day. In this case, social media consist a distraction from our everyday responsibilities. As a result, there may appear many psychological or physical problems. Hormones being released during their use can cause a strong addiction to them, making us feel less energetic or motivated when we are doing anything else. Additionally, the permanent exposure to a screen often leads to vision problems or lack of sleep, when the use of social media is intense at night, before going to bed.

To sum up, it is obvious that both the advantages and the disadvantages of social media are important and should be taken into account by everyone. That brings us to the conclusion that, in order to be able to benefit from them, we should all put limits when it comes to the time we are using them. We cannot let neither the help they provide to our lives nor the problems their extensive use can cause make us judge them unilaterally.

We can communicate with people that have the same interests as us. Moreover, we stay informed and updated almost about every subject. We become more aware of the issues around the world. In addition, social media help companies and small businesses to promote their products. Customers have easier access to the store and can purchase everything they want conveniently.

On the other hand, there are numerous disadvantages. To begin with, social media can be harmful for small kids. Hackers can publish personal information and also predators can attack little children. For example, many kids become victims of pedophiles every year, because they present themselves as small children. They also cause addiction and teens waste their time on social media instead of studying. Many teens can’t resist the use of social media and the lack of it can cause health problems too. Finally, fake news can be spread around the world, which poisons the mind of normal citizens. That’s why we have to trust reliable sources.

In conclusion, social media have advantages and disadvantages, but it all depends on the user.

Social Media

Society has been dramatically changed with the evolution of technology. Before the advent of modern-day technology, life was burdensome and everyday chores consumed too much of our time. Since social media has such a big influence on the current generation, the question is does it do more good or harm to us? With different types of social media at our fingertips, which means different ways to communicate, we need to know both the positives and negatives.

One of the most obvious pros of using social networks is the ability to instantly reach people from anywhere. Now that we’re connected wherever we go, we don’t have to rely on our landlines, we can simply open our laptops and immediately start communicating with anyone. If you want to know what’s going on in the world, all you need is to jump on social media. Business owners and other organizations can connect with current customers, sell their products and expand their reach using social media.

However, it is no secret that there is also a dark side to social networking. There are a number of arguments against social networking use. More specifically it is linked to increased negative feelings. These feelings worsen mental health and lead to depression. People have exchanged communication with connection. Yet, communication is vital to our well-being. People get distracted by all the social apps and news, leading to all sorts of problems like distracted driving or the lack of gaining someone’s full attention during a conversation.

Taking everything into an account, social media have changed our lives. It has both benefits and drawbacks but it is in our hands to use them with limits so we can improve our quality of life. It is necessary to be careful with the variety of opportunities that social media open up for us. Focus on using social media for all the good points, but be wary of falling victim to the dark side of an online interaction.

THE LIVES OF PEOPLE WITH THE INTERNET

Modern life has become easier and the people of the world have to be grateful for immense contribution of the internet technology to communication and information sharing. We can use the internet for numerous things but also it can create many problems in people’s lives.

Firstly, the internet can let a person communicate with people from all over the world. With applications such as Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, Messenger, Skype and many more, the vast majority people communicate with one another. The internet allows students and professors to communicate with each other on the progress of the research they are doing. Thousands of books, studies, research articles, reports and scientific papers are now available.

However, behind the ease and benefit there are many difficulties and dangers on the internet.

Social Media

The internet is an expression of an integrated technology since within it the dimensions of time, space and matter have been eliminated. Also, it has opened new avenues in both knowledge and communication, but there are positives and negatives through it.

The positives are that people can have fun, play, find information and meet other people online. The users can be informed in real time about all the developments anywhere in the world on various issues, political, social, economic, sports and more. Communication becomes direct and reciprocal since everyone can be informed, but also inform by exchanging views with other users. There is also the electronic form of books that you have in the internet that gives their reader the ability to easily and quickly retrieve words, chapters and based on specific search criteria and therefore be able at any time to locate those sections, related to the subject under study.

On the other hand, there are negative aspects to the internet. For example, using the internet over 10 hours a week can lead to addiction. The internet addict considers the computer or the internet to be the most important <<capital>> of his daily life. Also, copyright infringement, the circulation of pornographic material, the creation of false identities and even the supply of illegal products are all phenomena which exist on the internet and their limitation is particularly difficult.

To conclude, the internet can be both a curse and a blessing. It is up to each and every one of us to decide what it will be.

Social media

Over the past decade, the Internet has come a long way in many different ways such as communication, e-shopping and finding information. Yet one of the things that improved significantly is communication with the introduction of social media. But what are really the advantages and disadvantages of social media.

On the one hand, one of the most notable advantages of social networking is that you can communicate with anyone from any distance and by talking with someone from a different country you can gain an understanding of their culture. Also, οn social platforms, for example, Facebook and Twitter, you can learn what others are doing by reading their posts or you can post something to inform others. Lastly, students, especially through social media, can find information which can help them in their homework and know what kind of new things happened in other parts of the world.

On the other hand, one serious drawback of social networking is that even though you talk with someone through the Internet you do not know much about them so you cannot figure out if they are dangerous or not. Moreover, another negative aspect is that people, mostly teenagers, will do something lethal to themselves or others so they can get a little bit of attention which can be dangerous if it becomes a trend others do the same. Last but not least, whatever you post on a social platform will stay there and some individuals may use these posts depending on what you post or when you did to take you down.

All things considered, I think that social media is a great way to communicate with others but to prevent the problems mentioned above we have to educate everyone about these dangers so they can be more careful the next time they log in.

        Social media
We would be lying if we said that social media had zero impact on our lives. Today, we often perceive anyone who shuns social media as old or out of touch. However, they might be the most mentally fit among us. In reality, most people have little awareness of the frequency with which they check their phones.

It's no secret that, there are a lot of upsides to social networking. For starters, it gives us the ability to connect to people all over the world. One of the most obvious pros of using social media is the ability to instantly reach people from anywhere. Moreover, social media allows for quick diffusion of public health and safety information during crisis events like the ones we are currently facing. Last but not least, it gives opportunities to business owners and other types of professional organizations. For instance, they can connect with current customers, sell their products and hire new employees via social media.

To play the devil’s advocate, there's also a dark side to social networking. For example, there may be privacy issues from social sites owning your posts after you upload them to getting your location tracked and becoming a target. Another common issue is cyberbullying mainly among teens. In some extreme cases, the overwhelming pressure to fit in with everyone posting on social media or becoming the target of cyberbullying attack can lead to serious stress, anxiety and even depression. Lastly, since social networking is all done on some sort of computer or mobile device, it can sometimes promote too much sitting down in one spot for too long. Likewise, staring into the artificial light from a computer or phone screen at night can negatively affect your ability to get a proper night's sleep.

To sum up, we can all agree that social media can be very useful if used correctly. Thus, we shall all put much effort and not let it get over our

Social media is becoming really popular these days thanks to its user-friendly features. The use of social media can be a great opportunity for people who are looking for easy ways to communicate with others. In this essay, we will look on both the advantages and disadvantages of the use of social media.

When we look at the positive side of social media, there are numerous advantages. One of the most important being an amazing device for education. Teachers can use social media to teach their classes but students can also educate themselves on many topics. A very obvious benefit of using social networks is that you can keep in touch with your friends and relatives. Besides that, it’s a good way of meeting new acquaintances. Apart from this many people use social media to promote their business and stay connected with their customers. It also provides a great platform for upcoming artists to show their talents without having to pay anything.

But the usage of social networks can have a negative impact on someone’s health. Many teenagers spend way too much time online, as a result they tend to lack of live communication. They can also become addicted to social media. Cyber bullying is a huge problem. About 37% of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 have been bullied online, 30% have had it happen more than once. Cyber bullying victims are at huge risk for suicidal behavior. Another massive problem is hacking. Hackers can get into our computers and steal all of our personal information. Being on social media all the time will slowly devour the users mind.

All in all, we cannot disagree with the fact that social media has made our lives much easier. However the youth in particular must create a great balance between academic performances and social media.

The advatages and disadvantages of social media

Social media has grown tremendously in the last few years. The way technology is growing, it is obvious that more and more people are going to grasp its benefits. It has brought a lot of advantages and disadvantages for society.

The first and main advantage of social media is connectivity. People from anywhere can connect with anyone. Regardless of the location and religion. The beauty of social media is that you can connect with anyone to learn and share your thoughts. Also, you can share your issues with the community to get help and guidance. Whether it is helping in terms of money or in terms of advice, you can get it from the community you are connected with.

However, Personal data and privacy can easily be hacked and shared on the Internet. Which can cause financial losses and loss of personal life. Similarly, identity theft is another issue that can lead anyone to financial losses through the hacking of their personal accounts. The addictive part of social media is very bad and can disturb personal lives as well. Teenagers are mostly affected by addiction to social media. They get involved very extensively and are eventually cut off from society.

In conclusion, these are some of the advantages and disadvantages of social media for society. However, these advantages and disadvantages are more than enough to decide which way to go on social media.

Social media is a tool that is becoming more and more popular these days because of its user-friendly features. However, all this makes you wonder that something so powerful and with such a massive reach cannot be all good. Like how there are always two sides to a coin, the same goes for social media.

As far as their benefits are concerned, social media are a great device for social networking. All the information one requires is just a click away. Students can educate themselves on various topics using social media. Furthermore, people are always updated on the latest happenings of the world through it. A person becomes more socially aware of the issues of the world. Moreover, it strengthens bonds with your loved ones. Distance is not a barrier anymore because of social media. For instance, you can easily communicate with your friends and relatives overseas. Last but not least, they definitely benefit companies who wish to promote their brands.

On the other hand, despite having such unique advantages, social media is considered to be one of the most harmful elements of society. It is harmful because it invades your privacy like never before. The oversharing happening on social media makes children a target for predators and hackers. It also leads to cyberbullying which affects any person significantly. Fake news is spread with the use of it, which poisons the mind of peace-loving citizens too. Lastly, this addiction hampers the academic performance of a student as they waste their time on social media instead of studying.

In short, surely social media has both advantages and disadvantages. But it all depends on the user in the end. Therefore, we must strive to live a satisfying life with the right balance.

Social Media

Social media have become one of the most essential parts in our lives, private and professional. Since its construction, many people around the world, young and adult, use it every minute, every hour, every day. The question is whether they are beneficial or not. There are both advantages and disadvantages of using them.

The main advantage is that they help us keep in touch with our friends despite the distance and even find new ones. We can communicate with people that have the same interests as us. Moreover, we stay informed and updated almost about every subject. We become more aware of the issues around the world. In addition, social media help companies and small businesses to promote their products. Customers have easier access to the store and can purchase everything they want conveniently.

However, there are a number of arguments against social media that should not be outshadowed by the advantages. Most important of all, social networking is heavily linked to serious health issues, both physical and mental. The addictive nature of apps like Instagram, has led many people to not sleeping enough and having trouble focusing on their job or at school. Also, the constant comparison of our lives with the lives that people claim to have, can cause depression and a lot of anxiety. Furthermore, the rise of social media came along with the increase of fake news. Nowadays, misleading information is becoming more and more common. As a result, many people end up believing lies and supporting politicians or other public figures whose opinions are ethically wrong.

All in all, we cannot disagree with the fact that social media made our liver easier. But, I think that social media will never replace real-life communication. So, I believe that we should use them, but not let it be an everyday habit.

B1, Vasilis Evangelou Social media

Nowadays more and more people are using social media platforms for plenty of reasons.

As we all know the invasion of technology in our daily lives has brought about many changes. One of them is the wide use of social media platforms such as facebook, instagram etc.

Personally, I do not have any special preferences concerning social media because I think all social media platforms serve the same purposes and can be of some benefit. In my point of view, the use of social media can be helpful in some aspects of our life. For example, when it relates to finding missing people, objects and pets or when it aims at educating people and raising public awareness about controversial matters.

However, life without social media would be simpler, carefree and people would focus more on themselves and their goals rather than "neighbours’'" personal life. Imagine a life with switched-off computers, tablets or any other electronic devices that have to do with social media. Imagine holding people instead of metal, hearing their voice instead of the sound of the notifications. How does this sound to you? If you ask me, life always seems better when you experience it, when you get to know other people in person rather than when you are bragging about your achievements or posting personal facts. So, dare to dream, to live and not copy what other people do or meddle with their lives in social media, because you are not better than anyone else, after all.

In conclusion, the use of social media can ameliorate our lives on condition that we do not go overboard!

by Rafael Papadopoulos & John Raptopoulos

There's absolutely no denying about the fact that social media has become a huge part of our lives, some people say it's a good thing, some people say it isn't, it's important to note that both mindsets make crucial and reasonable points when it comes to social media, especially to the advantages and disadvantages factor. "What are the advantages and disadvantages?" you may ask.

Well to start things off with the positive aspect of social media, as I mentioned before, social networking has become a huge part of our lives for a few good reasons. The most important being the ability to connect with everyone, anywhere and anytime. Moreover, live lectures are now available because of social media. You can attend a lecture while sitting in your home. Furthermore since people have become distant from newspapers, the people depend on social media for their local or worldwide news. A person becomes more aware of the issues of the world.

Despite social media having numerous advantages in our lives, it is also considered as the most harmful element of our society. It's harmful because of the fact that your privacy is easy to be invaded. The fact that clueless users overshare information makes them an easy target for predators, hackers and scammers. In addition, social media easily hampers the academic performance of a student since they waste more time than they should on social media instead of studying. A very important disadvantage is the spread of fake news which poisons the mind of a user.

Overall, social media does indeed have a lot of advantages and disadvantages but in the end it all depends on the individual user. Everyone must create a balance between Social Media, Physical Activities and academic performances. Excess use of anything is harmful, the same thing applies to social media. Therefore we must create a balance to live a satisfying life.

However there can also be disadvantages, including the resources required and negative feedback.
The social media became a part of our lives and that's because of the technology.
There are many advantages such as they can keep us in touch with our friends even if we are in an big distance. Also we can communicate with people that have the same interests like us.
It can be also useful for knowledge for school activities.
For example:Many people are using YouTube when they want to watch something they like or even to learn something new.
There are even disadvantages. One of those disadvantages is that we are spending a lot of time on social media. There are many articles from scientists which says that many people cannot sleep because they are using it for long time in a day.And as result is not always but sometimes they are not going for school or to their job because they are feeling tired and exhausted.
It can also make as react different with our family because when we are a long time on social media. We can't communicate like we are talking face to face because we are typing messages sometimes even with bad spelling and grammar. We use often short words. For example:(How are you)?,they will write only a short word like this (hru).
In conclusion we can see that there are many advantages and disadvantages on social media.
Each one is different but it can be also helpful or harmful. We can all use the social media but in moderation.

by Elena Tsironi

Social media has not been in our lives for very long, yet they have managed to affect them. Nowadays, we all call our cell phone ‘’the sixth finger’’ as we cannot go anywhere or do anything without it. We feel as if we cannot survive an hour without checking on social networks or texting our beloved friends a message every four minutes. There is no doubt, though, that social media has made communication much easier.

No one can disagree with the fact that social networking platforms are the best way to keep in touch with your long-distance friends. They provide the ability to not lose contact with people you love that are not close to you and keep interacting while creating memories. Moreover, social media could be used in order for small businesses to promote their products for free. We are all aware of the high costs of advertisements and a new small business would never be able to afford professional advertising, so social media such as Instagram and Facebook are a very descent way of showing the quality of one’s shop.

However, the coin has two sides. Countless are the disadvantages of social networks, with most important the fact that the internet and especially these platforms are full of dangers. Catfishing is a phenomenon that has been observed on the socials in the past years and its results are hideous. First and foremost, many grown adults often tend to seduce underage people by creating a fake profile and feeding them with lies regarding their external appearance, age or even name. And also, another negative aspect of the media is that they are extremely addictive. People become addicted to them and this situation may cause many unpleasant scenarios, development of anxiety, depression and low self-esteem for instance. By constantly seeing all these edited pictures and perfect people with perfect bodies, perfect faces and overall perfect lives can seriously affect one’s mental health.

To conclude, even though social media has helped the world to a great extent to evolve, communicate and even entertain itself the dangers are always there so we all must be very careful when we are using them. And remember, moderation is the key to everything.

by Maria Tona

It is no secret that in the twenty first century social media plays an especially important role in our everyday life. Mainly teenagers nowadays tend to use them on a regular basic spending hours in front of a screen watching videos, listening to music, or chatting with their friends. However, like a coin has two sides social media does not have positive characteristics only. They can actually have a negative impact on us and our lives. That is why it would be decent to discuss the advantages and disadvantages of social media.

On the one hand social media helps us keep in touch with our friends that we cannot see habitually for the reason that they moved or because they live in another area. Moreover, they can even help us reconnect with some of our old friends through all social networks. Also, social media is an open space that everyone can express their opinion and be heard about their concerns and ideas. Our voices can even be heard in other countries or continents. Lastly, we cannot oversee the fact that social media can help small companies or individuals promote their products, which can be a positive thing because people can pursue their interests more easily and they are provided with more options.

On the other hand, social media can become addictive causing us many mental health problems such us anxiety, stress, and sleep deprivation since they show us some fake role models with their “perfect” lifestyle causing us to feel worthless and hateful towards our lives. They are also dangerous for teenagers since they can assist potential stalkers, bullies, or harassers. This is because anyone can create a fake identity on the internet and trick us into thinking that he or she that we are talking to is somebody else. Lastly, they cut us off from real life. They cannot help us improve our social skills. Actually, the opposite is true. They make our social abilities worse every day. For example, they make us avoid physical contact which is extremely important in human relationships.

In conclusion, social media has many positive aspects that are very helpful for us However, they can also create serious problems. It is in our hands to manage them and learn how we can use them wisely without any self-harm being involved.

by Anastasia Tsakiridou

Social Media is a tool that is becoming quite popular these days because of its user-friendly features. Social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and more are giving people a chance to connect with each other across distances. In other words, the whole world is at our fingertips all thanks to social media. The youth is especially one of the most dominant users of social media. All this makes you wonder that something so powerful and with such a massive reach cannot be all good. Like how there are always two sides to a coin, the same goes for social media. Subsequently, different people have different opinions on this debatable topic.

Social media is an excellent form of interface to communicate with our old or new friends, colleagues, and anyone we like to chat with anytime. Moreover, it helps us meet new people in life. It inevitably brings amusement and entertainment for people of every age, gender, caste, color, and creed. Teenagers feel great when they upload a picture and get likes and kind comments on their posts. Older adults feel great when they see the photos and videos of their children & grandchildren happy. Social media admittedly does an excellent job of making everyone happy. Furthermore, another benefit that we can get from social media is business. Due to social media, our immediate needs or even regular requirements are met with just some clicks away. If we are hungry or craving for something to eat, we get food delivered to us easily and quickly without any effort.

However, the usage of social media can also have a negative impact on us. One negative aspect lies in the fact that some teenagers spend so much time online. As a result of it, children suffer from the lack of live communication. They can become Internet addicts. To add, Cyberbullying is a serious problem too. According to statistics, about 37% of teenagers between the ages of 12 and 17 have been bullied online. Another problem is connected with hackers. They can get into our computers and use personal information for identity theft. We are worried by increasing cases of fraud. Scams are prevalent on popular social networks such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. That is why it is highly recommended not to include your personal data such as your home address or phone number into your public profile. You should check and regularly update privacy settings on your social media accounts.

All in all, we cannot disagree with the fact that social networks made our lives much easier. However, I think that social media will never replace real-life communication. I am convinced that the combination of on-line and offline networking, is the way forward.

by Michalis Tsikouras

Social media have certainly changed the way we live. Now, it is easier than ever to communicate with whoever you want. You can now inform yourself about what is happening around the globe in a second. However, social media have also a lot of disadvantages. So, what benefits and what negatives have social media?

Social media have a lot of pros. Firstly, you can easily keep in touch with a person that lives abroad. Also, you can be informed about anything that you want, and you can express your opinion and beliefs. It is a nice way to relax after a hard day or to spend your free time. Last but not least, social media help small businesses to advertise their products to a wider audience and that is a great help to a company that has just started.

Nevertheless, there are many negative consequences. First of all, they are very addictive and that makes people spend hours in front of a screen without doing anything meaningful. Furthermore, a lot of news is fake and only has the purpose of misleading people. Another important disadvantage is that they replace face to face interactions and that is very bad to human relationships. Lastly, they are very dangerous for teens due to the fact that many may want to bully or even harass them.

All in all, we can clearly see that social media have both pros and cons. I personally believe that social media are really helpful when we use them correctly and when we use them in moderation.

by Andreas Santou

Social media is one of the best inventions of the 21st century. It can provide, if used correctly, many positive things and feelings. But sometimes social media gets used wrongly, causing many negative side-effects.

One of the negatives is the appearance of self-absorption, a state of mind in which the person posts endless selfies and his/her thought for public use. This can lead to an unhealthy self-centeredness and selfishness that will drive him/her apart from the real-life connections.

The biggest and most important negative is the inadequacy about his/her life or appearance. This is the most common side effect of social media because the person viewing other posts which are manipulated, can begin to feel insecure about what's going on in his/her life or how he/she looks. A feeling of dissatisfaction and envy can make the reader feel lonely and depressed.

Besides all of these negative effects there can also be positive effects of social media usage. One of them is the discovery of sources for information and learning. There are many sites about learning and informing and they help educate more people who visit these sites. But we must be careful, because there are sites that provide fake info and teach us wrong things.

In addition, social media can raise awareness on important issues, letting people get informed and helping for the solution of the problem. This promotion of worthwhile causes can help eradicate selfishness and self-centeredness.

In conclusion, social media is a coin with two faces. On one hand it can teach good things, but on the other it can mislead us in confusion and lower self-esteem.

by Eva Demiri
Social media is one of the best inventions of the 21st century. It has changed our lives. We can now communicate with anyone we want wherever they live. Social media has many advantages and disadvantages.
The advantages are that social platforms let people easily communicate and exchange ideas or content. Also they make new friends and they can communicate with old friends/family. With social media people have quick access to information and research and they can learn new things. Another advantage is that you become more open-minded.
The disadvantages are that some people become easily addicted to social media and they avoid face to face communication. Social media has made teenagers lose the emotional connection with their families and friends. The face to face connection is losing its essence due to excessive use of social media. They get involved very extensively and are eventually cut off from society. It can also waste individual time that could have been utilized by productive tasks and activities. Also you can become a victim of cyber bulling.
In conclusion, I think that we should use social media for entertainment and for learning new things but not get addicted to it.

Dimitris Danas A2
Social media has become an integral part of modern society, offering a range of benefits and drawbacks. While there are certainly advantages to using social media, there are also several concerns that need to be taken into account.

One of the primary benefits of social media is increased connectivity. Social media platforms have made it easier for people to communicate and stay in touch with family members and friends who live far away. It allows individuals to send messages, share photos and videos, and keep up with one another's lives even when they are physically distant. This can help to foster stronger relationships and prevent feelings of isolation.

Another benefit of social media is its ability to share information. With just a few clicks, individuals can share news, educational content, and other important information with their social networks. This can help to educate people and raise awareness about important issues, as well as spark discussions and debates that might not have happened otherwise.

For businesses, social media has become an essential tool for promoting products and services. It allows companies to engage with their customers and build brand awareness, as well as promote special offers and discounts. Social media also allows businesses to gather valuable feedback from their customers, which can help them improve their offerings and customer service.

Despite these benefits, there are also several drawbacks to social media. Cyberbullying is one major concern, as social media has made it easier for individuals to harass and intimidate others online. This can have serious consequences for the victims, including emotional distress and psychological trauma.

Another concern is addiction. Spending too much time on social media can lead to reduced productivity, social isolation, and even sleep deprivation. This is particularly true for teenagers and young adults, who are at a higher risk of social media addiction.

Finally, there are privacy concerns associated with social media. Many platforms collect vast amounts of personal data from their users, which can be used for targeted advertising and other purposes. This has raised concerns about data security and privacy, particularly in light of recent data breaches and hacking incidents.

In conclusion, social media offers a range of benefits and drawbacks. While it can be a great tool for staying connected and sharing information, it is important to be aware of the potential risks and take steps to mitigate them. By using social media responsibly and being mindful of its potential consequences, we can enjoy its benefits without falling victim to its drawbacks.

Excellent!!!
