Born august 22 1956 ruth behar is a cuban-american anthropologist and a celebrated author.she was the first latina to be rewareded a mcarthur genious fellowship in 1988. She is the writer of the book ‘lucky broken girl’. The reason why miss behar wrote this book is because the book is about her and the experiences she went through. ruth behar was born in havana cuba and when she was five she went to live in the united states with her parents and her little brother. ruth grew up in queens new york .her parents were ment to buy a big house with a frot yeard for their kids but since they were refugees they had no money and they could only live in crowded rental apartments. but when she was 9 going 10 she got into a car crash and was bedridden in a body cast for a year. which made her become a nerdy girl who enjoyed reading a book. through all these eperiences ruth behar completed the book 'lucky broken girl'

Before the 1959 Revolution, Cuba had about 15,000 Jewish residents. This would have been a small fraction of the total population explaining why there is not a large amount of information about the traditions and values of their demographic. (The Jewish Federations of North America)

Traditions and Values:

In the book however, there is a brief mention on what the customs are in Ruth’s household for when her father comes home. It states “Mami stops us and reminds us not to be home late. Our hands must be clean and we must be smiling and ready to kiss Papi the minute he walks in the door or he gets angry”. In this quote we can see that, within their household, the “breadwinner” must be treated with respect when they come home from work to show appreciation for their labour. (Lucky Broken Girl Novel)
