I think it is very important for teenagers to pick up new skills as this helps them to find new ways of thinking and problem solving and teaches them to take responsibility for what they do as well as becoming more independent. This can also build confidence both in spoken skills and for group collaboration and cooperation
for example a life skill I think it’s important to learn is first aid is this can come in handy in emergency situations. back in Malaysia, I was in the CCA Red Cross and they had thought me really useful lessons such as how to treat someone who just sprained an elbow with just a cloth. went through the use and names of the things that is inside the first aid kit and the AED. one of the lesson I had the deepest impression is learning how to do CPR with different type of patients like for adults, we use two hands to treat them, but for toddlers one hand is enough then for babies just a thumb or two fingers will do

I don't believe in that statement because this truly resides to me very deeply. I do believe that the road to success will always bring about trials and tribulations that can bring up obstacles in life whilst moving upwards to success. As a former head prefect, I had many criticisms thrown towards me that i wasn't good enough or that i was too ambitious in the planing of statics for events. It sure did affect pretty deep as I'm a very emotional person sensitive person to Zam Zam commands but I learnt to grow a pig skin and take these criticisms as constructive criticism. It sure did affect me pretty deeply, as I'm a very emotional person sensitive person to other people's comments. But I learnt to grow a thick skin and take these criticisms as constructive criticism. And through these self-improvements, i saw that am able to tackle things better and was able to become a better leader.

However, some people, despite trying so hard to achieve greatness and success, they still fail and it just doesn't seem fair. I have had a friend who had a great passion in the arts, she loved dancing very much and i followed her in dancing when we were younger. However, she showed that she had lacked the skill or requirements to become a good dancer and have had critiques from examiners during the exams, it wasn't pleasant to hear. She had a great passion but lacked the skills to do so.

Hence, overall, i feel that trying hard and having the perseverance to go on and become a better person in leadership or in other aspects is great. But to the group of people that, despite efforts and passion towards their area of interest, can't seem to achieve success, that they should not be let down by such failures as life is never fair and that these trials and tribulations are there to mould them into a better person.

I believe that we should keep trying to do until we succeed no matter how hard things get, especially doing the things that we love that makes you smile; the drive and determination that keeps you motivated everyday. I love the quote of “you reap what you sow” it means that you sow the hard work of your labour and receive the fruits of your labour. During my life, even though I may still be young and not no much about life, I have faced a lot of hardships and setbacks. My relatives and peers, can be not always the supportive type. They would talk me down and always making an opinion of how I should do the things that they want it to be like. However, I ignored their opinions and continued to pursue my dreams and get aspiration from successful people. This has taught me something very valuable that as long as we do not give up and persevere , we could be the better versions of ourselves everyday.

But knowing when to give up can also do good to you.
Sometimes the things that you do does not always go your way as it is fated. For example, even if you are academically smart enough to get accepted into a University and had worked very hard, burning your midnight oil everyday but your family does not have the income to pay for your tuition. You will have no choice but to give up on furthering your studies. The moral of the story is that the world is unfair and cruel to people; you wish to be a the child of a rich family and to be famous but that does not come easily. You have to accept the fate that has been given to you since the day that you were born.

In conclusion, we have to know when to give up or when not to give up. I know that it could be difficult when to judge but always do the things that you love and stay positive even when your met with an obstacle in life.

The picture shows a few people of different ages who seem to be attending a cooking class. They look very interested and focused in learning how to prepare the dishes and cook. I feel that if i was at the cooking class, i would feel very absorbed in learning how to prepare ingredients and cook as i don't usually cook at home and i think it would be a fun experience. I remember when i was about twelve, my parents hosted my birthday party at a store that hosts cooking classes. I remember having to pair up with a friend to bake cupcakes and there was also a lady who was guiding us throughout the baking class. I also remember pouring flour and eggs with my friend and mixing them together afterwards. I had so much fun preparing and mixing the ingredients together, it was unforgettable. vocab too simple; can link bday event to family bonding which is unique and different from a typical bday party

I think It's very important for teenagers to pick up new skills. Skills are really benefical for teenagers because it can help us when we're older and we need to accomplish some basic tasks such as cleaning the house or cooking some nutritional dishes.

These skills can be technological skills such as being able to use google docs, google forms and understanding how applications and websites work. I have a friend who is not very tech-savvy so I help her out when she doesn't understand how to use google docs. I also help my mother with setting up her email account and Samsung account. She often asks me for help with these things since she doesn't understand it as well as I do. I like figuring out how things work so whenever I look at something, I'll think, "How does that work" and try to come up with a conclusion. I also have a lot of experience with online media and the internet because I've been exposed to it since I was very young.

Other than technological skills, being able to cook nutritious meals is also very important. When I first started cooking, I tried to cook tomato sauce pasta. I used fresh tomatoes but I didn't allow it breakdown and simmer into a thick sauce so it was very tasteless. However after experimenting using different kinds of canned tomatoes: whole, puree and diced. I also tried out different sauces from different brands. I personally really liked the Preggo mushroom bolognase sauce. When I was finally confident in my pasta making skills, I branched out and even tried making my own pasta using whole eggs and flour and made asian plus italian fusion pasta. I used to need a recipe but now I can make my favourite dishes without a recipe.

I am of the opinion that teenagers should pick up any sort of skills. Having certain skills means having the practical and theoretical knowledge on knowing how to carry out an action or do something . Skills can vary from essential life-saving skills like first-aid skills and CPR , to skills required for a hobby , be it knowing how to properly cook up a meal or the knife skills in the kitchen . Teenagers should learn any skill , as it will help to make them a more well-rounded student being well-equipped with skills . Additionally , there is no harm in learning a new skill , I feel that it is an enjoyable experience and it can be picked up in a matter of time . Teenagers can pick up skills via the Internet , friends or books . One example of one of these sources would be youtube. YouTube is a platform for everyone to share their own videos , and a large majority of it is in relation to picking up skills . Teenagers can just search on YouTube on how to pickup and master certain skills , and there would instantly be various videos to choose from to learn more about it . I recall coming across a YouTuber on YouTube whose name is Mike Boyd . He is a 34 year old man trying to learn as many skills as he can . The content of his videos is based on learning a specific skill with the shortest amount of time spent . One of my favourite videos would be the video on “ how I learnt how to do a muscle up “ . From the thumbnail , I was fascinated as a muscle up could only be done with exceptional back muscles .a muscle up is a modified pull up where the person has to not only pull himself up , but to pull himself up where the chest is directly above the bar. From the video , I saw that it took him 85 straight days to do 5 muscle ups in a row . I witnessed moments where his hands were full of blisters and his back was aching badly . However , he did not give up easily despite the adversities . He still persisted and pushed through the pain in order to get better , this was very inspiring as it showed how much he was dedicated to learning this skill . From his channel , I learn learning a new skill will not always be easy , however if we have the motivation and drive to want to do it , we certainly will with hard work . Since we are on this topic , I have to admit that I myself have also picked up a skill , which is the skill of cooking steaks . I fondly recall when I was in secondary 1 , I went to a japanese restaurant to celebrate my sisters birthday . One of the main courses that were served was a Miyazaki a4 wagyu , rib-eye . I still remember cutting through the steak , as if cutting through a stick of butter . The cross section of the steak had a pinkish-red interior surrounded by brown bottom and upper layers . Putting the slice in my mouth , my tastebuds tingled as I have never experienced such a sensation before . From that day onwards , it developed a passion in me for cooking steaks . About a 10 minutes walk away from my house , there is a butcher shop which sells all kinds of steaks ranging from dry-aged bone-in rib eyes to grain-fed t-bones. I would often go to that specific shop to buy my meat as not only is it convenient , but the quality and freshness of the meat is superior to the rest .

I think picking up a skill is essential for teenagers.
Having a skill can help teenagers to stand out from the crowd as having good or decent grades will not be enough to seem unique. One example of skills that helps teenagers to stand out is drawing or dancing. Many schools, regardless of primary school, secondary school, junior college , polytechnic or ITE look for special skills in students during selections. With this in mind, I think that teenagers should have at least a skill that they are outstandingly good at.
Having a skill can come in handy in difficult and even dangerous situations. The ability to do first aid is a skill that can save lives of people around oneself. It helps teenagers to react quickly to situations in the right way.
Another reason I think teenagers should pick up at least a skill is because having skills can help them learn and develop core and moral values that can help these teenagers go a long way. Values like resilience, respect and responsibility can be easily developed when teenagers pick up skills. Cooking is a skill that will help teenagers to become more responsible and even patient, when they know that they are responsible of the safety of the people they are cooking the meals. Patience is gradually developed as teenagers make various attempts to perfect their dishes, bakes or meals.
While picking up new skills, not only will teenagers meet friends and peers with similar interests, allowing these teenagers to widen their social circle, it also creates more common topics with their families too.
With all the pros of picking up a skill, I think that it is important for teenagers to pick up a skill.

I believe in that statement. Trying again and again is very important skill in our lives. It trains our tenacity and build our experience, assisting us in learning. When we learn from our mistakes , we will be able to see what went wrong and how to use this mistake as a stepping stone to improve to greater heights. One of my biggest failures and learning points was placing 22th in a cross country race. I started too fast and burnt out during the middle of the race. This was one of the most devastating days of my life but also taught me a valuable lesson on pacing. I tried again and again learning to pace myself every training and trying an error to become better. Contrary to my painful experience in 2019, I ran with an extremely precise and metronomical pacing at 1:26/lap, beating many of the competitors I had lost to in 2019 and attaining 2nd place for the interschool challenge. Making a mistake is one thing, but more importantly our response to a problem matters, and we must keep trying as a measure to move forward and attain success.

However I feel that one must have the correct method to learn. There are people who work hard and keep trying to no avail. They try aimlessly and end up giving up, eventually attaining no success. I personally feel that one fo the reasons they do not succeed after mutiple attempts, might be because they do not explore other methods of learning. For example if one were to learn how to play table tennis well, and he tries very hard to consistently hit the ball to a corner and beat his opponent. He or she might not be aware that the way they are holding their bat might be wrong. Even if they keep trying, they are bound to miss most of their shots. Therefore they one must keep trying with a reflective perspective to reflect and become better.

In conclusion, I feel that trying hard till we succeed is important but we must reflect on our mistakes to become even better.

I would enjoy what the people in the picture are doing. The picture shows children learning how to cook at an event. They all seemed to be having fun yet also looked nervous.I think the children in the picture are feeling exhilarated yet jittery at the same time. The reason why I said that the children are feeling exhilarated is because it may be their first time experiencing how to cook, something that their parents might not have taught them at a young age so it's certain that they will feel a sense of excitement. They may also feel nervous because it’s their first time handling these sharp cooking equipment and knowing how to slice or dice the ingredients so they may be afraid that they will mess up or hurt themselves. Personally, my first time cooking was when I was 13 years old, during food & consumer education class. It was the first time I was dealing with knives and all the unfamiliar cooking tools such as the grater or the whisk. It was definitely an area to explore as I thought that it was so fascinating that simple ingredients such as eggs and bananas could turn into something I’ve never expected, a banana muffin! But sadly, cooking wasn't my area of expertise, I’ve tried all forms of cooking such as baking, grilling and even the simplest method, boiling but the outcome was not very pleasant. The food either came out burnt or undercooked. Therefore, instead of cooking now, I tend to watch cooking shows on Youtube channels such as tasty or netflix shows such as Hell’s kitchen. After watching these shows, I've learnt new skills and how to prepare the food more effectively and I would like to say that maybe I’d like to try to cook again.

I think it is important for teenagers to pick up new skills because as a teen growing up, we have much to learn and experience and hence, when dealing with new challenges daily, it teaches us a life lesson or two which could be a skillset for the future. For example, as an exco in the prefectorial board, i learnt pubic speaking and planning of events. This kinds of skills would be important in the future as it improves my self-confidence and increases my job scope as someone who can plan and make decision wisely. Hence, learning new skillset can make a impact on our future and its is wise to learn new things.

I believe that if we don’t succeed, we should continue trying until we finally do. In life, we should always persevere to reach our goals. If we know how to persevere, we will not give up easily in the future regardless of any odds or obstacles that we may face. For example, I’m not doing very well in my science right now, but I am persevering on to do better for my preliminary and O levels examinations. Perseverance is a very important character trait for us to be successful in life. Without perseverance, we will not be able to accomplish our goals when met with challenges.

Another reason why we shouldn’t give up if we don’t succeed is because we can also encourage people to do the same. When we don’t give up, people may consider us as their role models and we may be able to inspire our loved ones to persevere on as well.

However, sometimes it is alright to give up when we do not succeed. Some may find out that their goals may not be within their reach, hence it would be a be the best option to give up on that goal and find something else that they are able to achieve instead. As we improve on ourselves, we may then be able to fulfil our goals.

In conclusion, we should all persevere and not give up when faced with difficulties and challenges. Perseverance is an important life skill which could last us for a lifetime. But on the other hand, it also is okay to give up on something when we don’t succeed if we the goal is not in our range of ability.

I think that picking up skills is important for teenagers. There are many different skills that teenagers can learn, some examples include cooking, basic survival skills, and taxes. Most of these skills are basically are learnt outside of school, during our own free time.

Skills that we put time into and learn now can prove to be assets in the future. For example, I am currently learning the basics of cooking and honestly, and surprisingly it isn’t that hard. At first I thought it was a daunting task, but when I actually started to try it, I got the hang of it pretty quick. Cutting up different ingredients and laying them out before throwing them into the frying pan to cook was all it took, well maybe for now because I’m trying out simple recipes.

Learning skills can also teach us values, from my experience in learning how to cook, I learnt the importance of patience. Slowly preparing the ingredients, waiting for the right time to throw in the different ingredients as they all have varying times to cook takes some level of patience, and in the end, I reaped the fruits of my labour by producing a satisfying meal.

Different skills can provide different learning points that teenagers can take away from. And not only that, it will also be able to benefit us in the future. Talk about hitting two birds with one stone.

I would enjoy the activity that the people are doing in the picture/video. If I was one of the little kids learning and preparing the food, I would feel a rush of adrenaline and excitement because I would want to expand and broaden my knowledge about food cuisines such as Western, Japanese and Chinese cuisine. For example, my mother enrolled me in a cookery course when I was 12 years old. This cookery course is about learning the basics and foundations about cooking. For example, prepping food such as knowing how to cut garlic, onions, celery etc. After we have mastered the basics, we moved on to learn more sophisticated skills such as bringing our imagination to reality. So, firstly, they gave everyone a set of ingredients to work with. It is a basic pantry where it contains eggs, chives, sour cream, salt, pepper, flour, and sugar. They told us to begin once they have gave the last person the set of ingredients. I started to panic at first, but after I have calmed down, I racked my brains and created a simple dish which consists of scrambled eggs topped with some chives and some sour cream for taste. The instructors came to me first and told me that this dish was a good start to the cookery course. They told me after learning their knowledge of food, I may be able to become a professional chef in the future. I was brimming with joy and excitement when they said that. This boosts my self-esteem to become a professional chef in the future, and becoming like my idol, Gordon Ramsay.

In the picture, I can see a cooking class in progress and a group of children is learning how to make traditional Malay food. They look very happy and attentive when the teachers are teaching and helping them to make the food. If I was one of the people in the picture, I would be very excited to learn how to cook because as a person who does not even know how to fry an egg, I feel that it would be very cool to pick up a new skill. Especially, during this covid-19 period where everyone is encouraged to stay at home. Since I do not know how to cook, naturally I would head out to buy food. However, I am lazy at the same time so I wouldn't head out everyday just to buy food so I end up cooking instant noodles but eating it everyday can be unhealthy so, if I acquired some cooking skills, I can cook myself a nutritious meal. Also, by learning how to cook, I can pick up time management skills since I need to know how much time different types of food takes to cook and I would be able to use that skill in my studies as well. Hence, I would enjoy learning how to cook as shown in the picture.

There are even some children learning how to cook, and I would definitely enjoy doing the same thing. At home, I rarely have a chance to cook as my mom usually does the job. Ever since the first time I cook for my family, it became my interest. It is a sense of accomplishment, turning different raw food together into an appetizing dish. Since then, my mother always encourage me to try new recipes hence I started my research online, but recipes online are challenging as they are not commonly seen. Even though there are some recipes that we failed making but the process of trying new recipes with my mom is really fun and interesting. Hence, I would enjoy what the people in the picture is doing.

i would enjoy what the people in the picture are doing. in the picture, we can see that there are children taking up a cooking class. There is one girl on the right getting help from two adults, where she seems to be plucking the leaves to be placed in a bowl. Beside them are two girls, who are stirring something in a bowl too. They seem to be doing some preparation before they start to cook. I have experienced taking up a cooking class in the past, and that was during my secondary one and two lessons. we have food and consumer education, which is FCE for short. we were required to pair up and cook a dish for several of our lessons. the first time i actually had the experience of cooking was during this FCE lesson, where i paired up with a classmate to cook fried rice. i had to beat the eggs while my classmate had to cut up the chicken to be in bite size. it was really enlightening to prepare our own food because we got to choose what we want to be put in to our meals. i could decide how salty i want the fried rice to be, or i could add in my favorite ingredients like carrots or green peas. i found these FCE lessons to be the most enjoyable, and i would definitely take up cookery classes in the future to prepare a plethora of dishes for my family.

I think that such cookery classes should be taught in school to all students. cooking is an essential skill for everyone since we can't always depend on our mom or take-aways to survive on. take-aways are very unhealthy due to the high levels of sodium and oil content in it. having cooking skills can actually help us to have better eating habits, since we pick what we want to cook, like having the choice of cooking steamed or fried fish. nowadays, teenagers believe that cooking is a redundant skill since they can easily deliver food of their choices online. however, we should have cookery classes implemented in schools for teenagers to have cooking skills to be independent when they go to further studies or work overseas.

Such skill can protected themselves and loved ones in times of danger. It helps them to also be more wary of their surrounding and are always on high alert.
Picking up a skill can also have another benefit of learning values such as patience and resilience. They need to have the patient to master the skill especially certain skills related to floral, there is precise method or ways to place flowers to make it beautiful. Thus they acquire patience . They can also learn to be more resilient with some classes where failure is inevitable such as martial classes.
Therefore it is important for teenagers to pick up a skill as it can train some values in them and also protect themself too

The picture shows a group of children peeling off some skin off vegetables calmly, under the supervision of several instructors to be used as ingredients for, what seems to be, a baking activity.
Personally, I have been to these types of baking programmes, such as the time my mother signed my siblings and I up for a community centre cake baking programme when I was primary five. At the time, I had no interest or knowledge in cooking and baking, with most of my time being spent on playing mobile games. When my mother told me of the registration, I was angry with her for not consulting with me before registering me. However, this all changed when I
participated the programme. At first when I stepped inside the kitchen of the programme, I was intimidated by the many various instruments and machinery which I thought a primary school student definitely could not operate. This attitude towards the kitchen changed as our instructor slowly guided my group through on how to operate the machinery with patience and care. Step by step as I added the ingredients,
