Injustice is something that happens all over the world, we see it on the news, we read about and we also hear about it, El Salvador has one of the highest homicide rates in the world, gangs take control over territory and extort families (even politicians).

Gangs also forcibly recruit members of the LGBTQ+ community. gangs kill, disappear, rape and displace who resist to join them. They stain the name of the country by bringing it down, humans right are violated all the time and yet gangs don’t care, but a new president has being elected, gangs are being pushed against the wall and they are backing up a little bit.

URL: https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2020/country-chapters/el-salvador#

China has been the hot topic for many human right activists as the horrors of injustice against other religions is being and not talked about in China. Repression and systematic abuses against the 13 million Turkic Muslims, including Uyghurs and ethnic Kazakhs, in China’s northwestern Xinjiang region. Authorities have carried out mass arbitrary detention, torture, and mistreatment of some of them in various detention facilities, and increasingly imposed pervasive controls on daily life.

China’s growing global power makes it an exporter of human rights violations, including at the United Nations, where in 2018 it sought to block participation of its critics. China again ranked among countries singled out for reprisals against human rights defenders, and in March successfully advanced a Human Rights Council (HRC) resolution on a retrograde approach that it calls “win-win” or “mutually beneficial” cooperation.

URL- https://www.hrw.org/world-report/2019/country-chapters/china-and-tibet# (Links to an external site.)

A movie I watched recently, “The Hate U Give” had a true meaning behind it. In the movie there was this boy that got pulled over by a cop and didn’t realize that discrimination was happening. He kept on questioning the police for what he did wrong and kept on talking back. The police told him to stay still and not to move. However, the boy moved and got shot. The message behind this is that all members of society should be treated equally regardless of our wrong thoughts and ideas of others. You shouldn’t judge someone by the color of their skin, but by their personality because they could be the nicest person.

In this situation it was better to handle this situation if the police wasn’t scared and wasn’t yelling for no reason. In my opinion, I believe he did nothing wrong and the police just did it because of the color of his skin. It would’ve helped both situations if the police didn’t point a gun at him at first. However, the boy should’ve listened to the police and not move. Furthermore, we see this in our society. For example, George Floyd was tackled by the police. The police was very aggressive and put his knee on Floyd’s neck. “I can’t breathe” is what Floyd said to the police but he kept on doing it, until his last breath. Also, this slogan is associated with the Black Lives Matter movement in the United States.

The confrontations all over the world have driven people to respond in violence, like destroying historical monuments.

The article also talks about how vigilantism is brought upon us not because “the government is weak or absent” but instead “the very principles that make up a government and its people themselves seem to be changing.” Personally as spoken about in the article , vigilantism “is often about the attempt to establish power rather than a reflection of pre existing hierarchies.” I believe that vigilantism is a root of the idea of injustice. Constant conflict and lack of accepting one's opinion draws people to jump to accusations and arguments without considering the order which keeps us in check. The idea of injustice is definitely a pattern in our society and it has been evident this past year especially. I don’t doubt that in one way or another injustice is real but the violence we respond to that with only furthers what we should be trying to fix.

Georgie Floyd was killed with no justice, but most importantly his death shined a light on the injustices faced by minorities all throughout the country. These injustices all stem from racism which has been plaguing our society since the Jim Crow laws to this day. This racism bleeds through to everyday life; from our work life, to schools, and most importantly in our judicial system. In fact it has been proven that African Americans get harsher sentences than a white American in the same situation. Sadly this has become all to common and minorities suffer day to day trying overcome this inequality.

A few bad apples can ruin the bunch. This couldn’t be truer now more than ever. Getting rid of these bad apples is the best possible way of attacking this issue. In the case of George Floyd; this one bad cop doesn’t represent every cop. I’m not saying that that officer was the only bad apple. No. There are thousands of more bad apples but it’s our job to regulate these apples to ensure an unbiased environment to build a relationship between government and people. Furthermore to build a relationship between races. This regulation of racist behavior should be applied in all aspects of life to ensure no one feels oppressed; we are all humans no one is more superior than the other.

After shooting and killing a man who did absolutely nothing to deserve such violence, Officer Jeronimo Yanez was just giving a 48,500$ settlement in an agreement to leave the department. This man who openly admitted that he first pulled over Philando Castile because he thought his nose resembled that of an armed robbery suspect — shot and killed Castile for no apparent reason whatsoever, then was given a load of cash. Not only is that bogus, it's a true symptom of just how difficult it is to hold terrible cops accountable. Basically the man literally just got paid after killing Philando Castile.

This case was so unfair since officer Yáñez was not convicted of a crime, with which he brutally murdered an innocent person. The officer at the same time received a payment of $ 48,500 and a payment for up to 600 hours of unused personal leave. This is something that is already in this part of our society, since it is not the first time that a police officer brutally assaults, or kills an innocent, and many of these policemen do not have charges. It is not the first time that it happens, and everything what happens at the moment, with the protests is for the same reason of injustice.

(Links to an external site.)

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2017/07/11/cop-who-killed-philando-castile-paid-48-500-buyout/466918001/

Martin Niemöller was born in the Westphalian town of Lippstadt, Germany, on January 14, 1892. In 1910 he became a cadet in the Imperial German Navy. With the outbreak of World War I in 1914, Niemöller was assigned to a U-Boat, of which he was eventually appointed the commander. Under the stipulations of the armistice of November 11, 1918, that ended hostilities in World War I, Niemöller and other commanders were ordered to turn over their U-Boats to England. Along with many others, Niemöller refused to obey this order, and was, as a consequence, discharged from the Navy.

It is not the first time that it happens, and everything what happens at the moment, with the protests is for the same reason of injustice.

https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2017/07/11/cop-who-killed-philando-castile-paid-48-500-buyout/466918001/

We are committed to changing the narrative about race in America. EJI produces groundbreaking reports, an award-winning calendar, and short films that explore our nation’s history of racial injustice.
