Kaelyn Smith: "Live a balanced life," "Be aware of wonder," and "Wisdom was not at the top of a graduate school mountain."

I like the quote "Live a balanced life" because it is a set idea of life. Don't put one thing over another and make sure everything you do is set up so it's equal. Next "Be aware of wonder" its nice to have wonder and be a person of that but you also have to be aware of that and make sure it doesn't get you in the wrong way. Finally, "Wisdom was not at the top of a graduate school mountain" wisdom is not something you wake up to. I like this phrase because it shows how you have to work for what you want/ wisdom and the fact that it cant be handed to you.

"Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody." I chose this quote because I say sorry a lot even if it wasn't my fault, but sometimes it is meaningless. It gets to a point where you say it too much and it doesn't count. So you have to be careful for what you say around people

"Live a balanced life" is a great quote but it isn't always true, there's rules in life and it stops what you want to do. Yes, try to do fun stuff and go outside more which I try to do

"Clean up your own mess" I chose this because I have gotten in this situation before because I have screwed up before with a friend and I fixed it - Victoria C.

1. " when you go out into the world, watch out for traffic." to me that doesn't only mean like literally traffic I feel like if you are in the real world and you see that making choice that you know is bad then you should try and avoid it as best as possible, like getting on the highway at 5pm during the week. make good choices.
2. "work everyday some" Not everyone has a job but maybe it is doing school work or a sport and there is something that you can work on and do a little everyday. Honestly for me it would probably be school and work cause that is all I do.
3. "Play fair" you should always be nice to everyone because you don't know what other people are going through or challenges that some people have so when doing anything you need to make sure it is fair and can help everyone.

Living a balanced life is a bit of a struggle for me. I always find myself playing games or watching YouTube or whatever without getting any work done because work doesn't even cross my mind. ADHD kinda sucks like that a lot of the time.

Play fair is almost a life motto for me. I hate lying in general and tend to say more than I mean to and sometimes it hurts people, which leads me to another problem I have.

Saying I'm sorry when I hurt people is something I struggle with. It sounds so easy in concept, and it is, but the process of accepting that I have a reason to apologize in the first place can be hard sometimes.

1. "Share everything" connects to me personally because ever since I was little I've had to learn to share with others. I have two younger siblings and have spent years sharing my bedroom, toys, and clothes with them.
2. "Live a balanced life" this line especially speaks to me because I often struggle to find time for myself and do the things I love when I'm busy with other things like school or camp. Sometimes this is simply due to a lack of time but I'm learning to give myself breaks and be gentle with myself even when I have a lot going on.
3. "Be aware of wonder" I enjoy this line as the ending of the poem for many reasons. Learning to romanticize my own life and the world around me has made my life much more enjoyable. It also connects to my need to live a more balanced life and take time for myself.

I'm constantly tired no matter what and no matter how old I am, I will always have/make time for naps.
2. "Share everything" is definitely something I believe in. Even something as simple as sharing kindness with someone can make their day.
3. "Be aware of wonder" also speaks to me greatly. I am always open to learning about new things and curiosity has always been within me.

The lessons learned from this poem are the basic skills that you learn as a member of society.

The first example is the line, "Clean up your own mess" In today's world, there is so much litter on the ground and trash in our oceans. It is not only damaging to wildlife, but it can also be very damaging to yourself as well.

The second example is when the author writes, "Say sorry when you hurt someone" This not only can be from a physical hurt, but also emotional too. If we make a joke that hurts someone's feelings, it is important to apologize and know not to make a joke like that again.

The last example is, "draw and paint and sing and dance and play" It is okay to still be a kid sometimes. You should let go and be creative and take care of yourself. Life shouldn't be so black and white, it should be full of color.

Overall, this poem provides many great pieces of advice, but I want to highlight on my three favorite lines in this poem.
1. "Share everything" is a very important one. You live on a planet with 7 billion others, you have very few things that you get to keep to yourself. As someone with a sister, eight cousins, and many friends, I grew up knowing how to share. I grew up having to share my toys, my belongings, even occasionally my bed, my clothes, etc. Very little of what was mine, was actually mine. Had I not learned how to share, that would have been very difficult for me, and when I grew up and became an adult, it would be even harder, as adults always have to share.
2. "Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody" is another beautiful thing I want to cover on. As I previously said, I grew up surrounded by other kids. As you may expect, due to this, mistakes and issues come up. Sometimes you hurt people, sometimes you may insult people, sometimes you have falling outs. When these things came up, it was important to approach them with a positive and compassionate attitude, and just apologize. When I was little, I got really mad at my friends and yelled at them and ran into my room sad. After some thought, I felt bad for how I treated them, so I eventually came out of my room and apologized. They, of course, forgave me, and we went back to having fun like we were previously. Learning this lesson will help you in the real world, because nobody is perfect and we all make mistakes. it's important to learn from them, and just apologize to people.
3. "Hold hands and stick together" is the most important lesson from this poem, in my opinion. While from one perspective it is literally talking about holding hands while you cross the street, at the same time it is talking about sticking together with other people. Having other people around really helps you feel a lot better about yourself, and it's very imperative to not give up and to stick together when working with others. This is important when teaching too because you work with kids/teens. If you don't stick together when working with these kids, you will accomplish nothing.

1. "Say you're sorry when you hurt somebody" speaks to me because apologizing can go a long way. This lesson has always stuck with me throughout life. If I ever accidentally hurt someones feelings, it's very important for them to know that it's was never my intention. Apologizing can solve problems and strengthen relationships. Personally for me, when someone apologizes after an argument I feel a weight lifted off my shoulders and thankful that they had the courage to admit they were in the wrong rather than risking a friendship.
2. "And draw and paint and sing and dance and play" really speaks volumes because life itself can be very deceiving. Life isn't all happiness and rainbows. There can be thunderstorms and tornadoes. That is why it is important to make the most of each moment spent on Earth enjoying your time and having fun. Being a child and playing and drawing seemed like an everyday thing, however when you grow up it can be difficult to find time to relax and enjoy yourself.
3. "Be aware of wonder" also speaks volumes because the world around you can be ignored if you are not open to it. This line shows how with an open mindset you can really discover a whole new perspective. It is important to wonder because time will pass you by before you realize it.

1.)"All i really need to know about how to live and what to do" I picked this line because it shows that in school we learn lots of life long skills that arent always math, science, English, etc but can be taking care of yourself and other things.
2.) "learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work everyday some" Like the last quote this quote shows that school isn't all about the academic learning but we can learn in many different ways that make learning fun and not always note taking and listening to a teacher talk.
3.)"be aware of wonder" this quote shows that people should stay curious even outside of school

I think this poem that we just read truly exemplifies the definition of a Kindergarten. They're are some great lessons touched upon in this poem but 3 of them really stuck out to me.
The first lesson is "say you're sorry when you hurt somebody." This stuck out to me because sometimes when resolving issues you need to just say sorry to put an end to it. You need to learn how to apologize from a young age because it is almost guaranteed you will make a mistake that might hurt someones feelings.
The second line I chose was "Live a life balanced-learn some and think some and draw and paint and sing and dance and play and work every day some". This stuck out to me because you really do need to live a balance life. You need to be able to have fun but also know when you need to be serious. This is good to learn at a young age because this is a skill you will use all your life.
The third line I chose was "clean up your own mess". This speaks out to me because as you get older nobody is going to be there to help you through everything. From a young age its important to learn something as simple as putting your toys away so then you will progress to things like organizing your life.
