Overall, the hardships she faced as a result of multiple major surgeries and the lack of support from the government struck me the most. Seeing as her suffering and problems in life were something we were not used to given the kinds ofvpeople we interact with usually, I felt genuinely surprised to hear about her situation and understood how she just wanted to have some support from the government in order to keep the stability of her and her family's life. It struck me that this is the truth that millions of Filipinos face in this world, and that many of their stories are unheard.

I would just like to say thank you to Nanay Geraldine for being so open with us and willing to come here and converse with people of a wholly different background, and I wish that she may continue persevering (while still caring for herself) and that she may gain the happiness she deserves in her life. I hope that she continues to tell her story and open the eyes of many more people, and I hope that one day, she can proudly say that she has triumphed over all the difficulties and challenges of her life.

Bawal Magtapon Ng Tao Dito" was an artpiece that hit me deeply. It was a simple street corner wall. The same place trash is thrown or discarded. The same way human lives were discarded during the extrajudicial killings. Thats what hit me the most - that victims, humans just like us who cry and love and bleed just as we do - are killed.

Sir Jerome, thank you for all that you do for these people. I lack the words to express this, but even if you claim not to be a hero, I think you have the heart of one. And I'm sure that you are greater than superman or batman in the hearts of the people you help.

the part that struck me the most in my groups community partner, ate rowena, was where she founded an association and basically helped a ton in making payatas a way better place. its evident that she was successful in her mission and goal here since it is a much better place especially since its incident. my message to ate rowena is that she really inspires me, they really show me that even though tons of things may be rough, persevering and continuing to be humble throughout all if it is the key to success. ate rowena said that her children are about to graduate high school and even though i havent met them at all, im so proud for them. they couldve lived their lives less fortunate than it is now, but they chose to battle through and get a well paying job. ate rowena and the rest of her family and community, thank you for being such good and honest leaders of our society. to the rest of the community partners who i havent met, im sure you have done great things as well. no matter how small they are, i hope youre proud of them and i hope you continue to inspire and help the nation with the things you do, throughout all your hardships and times of struggle. thank you, we appreciate you, and we hope to see your future way brighter than the present, we love you. and we hope you have a good day also :)))

The part of the community partner's sharing struck me the most was when Sir. Jerome mentioned how you still want to serve others by guiding them through their recovery. Despite all the difficulties you experienced, you still persevered for the benefit of others. What struck me the most about tita Merly’s sharing is when she mentioned the government’s practically non existent initiative to help her family and community to acquire basic necessities. What struck me the most is the entire talk actually, because it was my first time listening to a talk about the reality of drug users and drug addiction. It was very enlightening, since I was able to understand how drug addicts aren’t criminals they are the same as everyone. They just used drugs as a way to help themselves, but they eventually ask for help because they want to help themselves for the better and for their loved ones.

Thank you so much for being a representative to teach my group and I about drug addiction. Thank you for being a source of light to those who need it. Thank you for opening my eyes and mind to the realities that they face and for making me realize that they are good people. The interview we had was with a woman named Geraldine or “Nanay G.”. Nanay G. grew up in martial law. Though she had no total recollection of what it was like since she was very young, she mentioned that even if her and her family lived in the province, they still lived in fear. Nanay G. faced many hardships growing up but it is only recently wherein she faced huge obstacles in her life. With having to take care of 3 sons who all still live with her and are pursuing their educational prowess, she overworked herself and fell ill. Nanay G. underwent mutliple surgeries while still having to pay for food, tuition, and commuting. With her husband being a security guard, Nanay G. said that his income was “hindi sapat” with the way they live their lives.

What struck me the most is how Nanay G. maintained her determination to provide a better life for her family even while encountering so many hardships. During the Q&A portion, a fellow groupmate asked her ”If you could go back in time before all the hard times, how would you live your life and what would you do?”. Nanay G. said that she would do a lot, but as a priority, she would have learned to love herself and taken care of herself. She would have learned how and when to prioritize herself. She was being so selfless that it ended up affecting her health negatively.

My message to Nanay G. is thank you and I wish the best for you. Thank you for opening up your heart to my group and I. You were able to teach me something new today. That of which is how to put trust in God and his plan for you and to always take care of yourself in all that you do. This is a lesson that not everyone is taught and I will forever be grateful for what you have taught me today. I hope that the winds begin to change for you. I hope and pray that all the good karma you have collected in your life, comes back to you soon and life starts to flourish. You deserve nothing but the best, Nay. God bless you.

During our encounter with Nanay Geraldine, she shared her life with us. She faced so many hardships that I can’t even imagine going through. This truly opened my eyes to how much I’ve overlooked in my life. I was most inspired by her perseverance and faith. Though ate Geraldine wasn’t able to recall her life back then during the martial law, she told us her current situation as a Filipino citizen. As a student who’s part or currently studying in a well-known school with quality it really reminded me of how privileged I am and a reminder to keep myself grounded. Her story is just one of many and we should continue to talk about these unheard perspectives of those who aren’t part of the same social circle/class as us because this will help better the country.

Something that struck me by her sharing is her community's resillience and spirit despite the hard times that they experience. Despite everything they go through, they keep going and find ways around those problems. That really inspires and makes me want to also act in a similar fashion. I'm really inspired to never give up and to keep moving forward despite everything that I may go through. Something else that struck me is her life story and how hard it can be but that it is also a loving life in a way where she is in a community that truly cares about one another.
