I know it has been a lot. However, I wish ALT was a little more open to suggestions. Not everything has to follow this preconceived script. We need to identify the needs of OUR students and community- by grade level and then respond to those needs. Ask the teachers what their students need. Ask students what they need. There are ways to make Advisory great, but you need teacher buy-in and student buy-in. Several students in it have commented that it was the most relaxing place they went to all day and that makes me happy. I liked the mix of kids in my group and actually would not have minded if I had them again next year.

I would strongly suggest taking into account the teachers opinions for next year. I would also ask the students what advisory means to them. Be transparent about all of the answers -- not just the ones that make the program look good. Without teacher buy in the program will not work no matter how good it seems to be for lower economic communities. Why can it not be one day a week. With it being after 1st period I would like to see the data of students missing 1st period on the Advisory days and checking in after Advisory. Also the data of students checking out early prior to Advisory now...knowing that they will only miss two classes. I think the students really benefitted from knowing they were in a room of people who cared and supported them unconditionally. My students really took the pledge to keep what is said in Advisory in confidence and this gave them the opportunity to talk about some things that they admit they haven't shared with anyone. I appreciated the opportunity to get to know a group of students that I otherwise would never have interacted with. I much rather have GWP and JAG time merge, and then have 1 day of Advisory on Fridays. This gives time for students who need help in GWP to go to that teacher to get help.
