They are in a wood or in a forest and they're watching a map that is on a car hood.
The girl on the left is indicating the map that is on the car.

They might have met at one of their homes and they have left but they may have completely forgot to bring a map and a compass. 
Once they got there, they must have realised that they were in the middle of a enormous forest without anything to use to orient themselves.
They have walked a lot around and around.
After two or three hours they have seen a car in the distance and since they couldn't find the way home and they didn't know the place, they may have entered in the car and they could have taken a map, a compass and other objects that maybe would have been useful.

They must have been afraid about him because they were stealing.
The old man came over and started screaming a lot.
He must have been furious about that.
The guys started running and came out of the woods.
That day they might have thought that next time they will bring the objects!!
