How Does S.E. Hinton Use History in Her Book?

S.E. Hinton uses history in her book, so we could connect with some of the aspects of life back in the 60's. The Greasers and Soc's are two gangs that live in opposite lives. Hinton uses the fashion, speech, and emotions to set us up in a setting that takes place in the 60's. The Greasers were poor and trashed with worn clothes, while the Soc's were rich with expensive and sharp clothes. The way the Soc's would use phrases that you normally wouldn't hear in modern day society is another aspect. The way the Soc's and Greasers would threaten and act towards each other stepped up our understanding of the way of life back in the book's time. They would knife each other, cuss, and get into brawls at night. With all these reasons, S.E. Hinton uses, she is giving us a tour of the life of a gang back i the 60's.
