I do not like reading very often. I feel as though it is time consuming and boring. As a young child, I was very competitive. So, I enjoyed competing with classmates to meet my A.R. goal. I did not enjoy most of the books that I read but I read them to meet my A.R. goal quickly. Shortly after I graduated from middle school, I stopped reading because there were no longer A.R. goals. As a child, I did not find many books that I found enjoyable or that I could relate to.

As a elementary student, I feel that my teachers did not know many children's books that I could relate to (similar to the teacher in the article we read). The teachers only seemed to be concerned about whether a student met their A.R. goal or not. If students met their A.R. goal they received a reward. I wish teachers in my school would have been able to recommend interesting books that they thought students would enjoy. If this had occurred, I feel that I would have enjoyed reading more.

Significant Events in your life that impacted your reading. What sticks out to you about your reading experiences in school? How often do you read?

My reading experiences in school were quite dull honestly. I read several books to meet my A.R. goal, compete with friends, and to get a prize. When I was younger I would get excited for book fairs. At book fairs they would sell books that I found interesting. My friends and I would often buy books from the book fair and discuss what occurred within our books. Currently, I do not read unless one of my college courses requires me to do so. In the summer time, I will normally read one book. During school, I struggle to find time to read books.

Do you only read for school or do you also enjoy reading for fun?Memories you have of reading as a child. Books that impacted your life (taught you something important, made you love reading, etc.) How have all of your experiences with reading helped you get to where you are today?

Currently, I only read for school. When I was younger, a few nights a week my mother would read children's books to me. I enjoyed these books as they were mostly Disney books. Comic books impacted my life as a young child. I did not particularly enjoy reading most books, but I did enjoy reading super hero comic books. Today, my love for Marvel movies originates somewhat from my love of comic books. Reading different articles as a college student, has opened my eyes to the world around me. It has helped me become a more informed American citizen. My reading as college students have changed my political views. Reading has significantly impacted who I am today
