         <description><![CDATA[<div>Upton Sinclair wrote "The Jungle" in hopes of shedding light on the problems of the meat-packing industry specifically in Chicago. The book revealed the inhumane working conditions and the dangerously unsanitary working environment. "The Jungle"  was read by President Theodore Roosevelt and prompted him to pass the Meat Inspection Act. He also created the FDA which to this day monitors and regulates the nations food supply. </div>]]></description>
