Having other professionals involved in meetings and IEP meetings can be crucial for students. Some goals may and often do transfer across settings. Students can be on IEPs for many different reasons, it can be for physical disabilities, learning disabilities, medical disabilities and the list goes on. Having all the proper supports and accommodations is what creates a successful learning environment for students.

Another evidence based practice that supports learning and collaboration is group work. Children learn from modeling and collaboration with peers. Through group work children can learn social skills, positive behaviors, life skills and many other aspects academically and otherwise.

One good example of how assistive technology can support children with IEPs and special education teachers is through speech services. There are several apps that can be used to support speech development or communication development. PECS and Proloquo2go are 2 commonly used apps for communication support. Technology can be used for behavioral purposes and academic purposes in special education, a commonly used app used in special education settings for social-emotional learning and academic learning is Starfall.

This video is a great example of collaboration between different entities such as general education, special education, and support staff. This video talks about wrap-around supports through academics, behavioral, and other adaptations and accommodations made for students.
