Clean water is definitely an important source for life . Millions of people die each year , mostly children due to the lack of clean water accessibility . Clean water has evolved over time , there are more places with availability to a clean water source now . People who still do not have access to clean water to day , they have to drink that . Along with bathing which can cause trachoma . Trachoma is a bacterial infection that grows in the human eye , which can eventually cause blindness . Some of Earth's groundwater is fossil water . Fossil water was created when Earth's climate was way different . Today the water is as finite as petroleum . Other aquifers are renewable . When humans drink water , we are taking it from lakes , ponds , rivers , streams , etc . This affects aquatic life . We can change all of these problems with more efficient management of water sources .

Photograph John Stanmeyer, National Geographic.

This article is bases on ocean pollution, and how it affects the organisms living there and how humans are the main cause to the pollution. Common man-made pollutants that reach the ocean include pesticides, chemical fertilizers, oil, sewage, plastics and other. As we know, humans eat seafood, most common fish, fish make up more than half the ocean population. So due to the pollution this kills the fish if not harms it. When we consume the fish we can get sick because of all the chemicals inside the fish. In the article it also talks about noise pollution, and how pollution isn't always physical. The presence of loud ships, oil rigs. But at last, there are now many national laws about this crisis, that forbid dumping of harmful materials into the ocean.

Figure 2f From: Irimia R, Gottschling M (2016) Taxonomic Revision Of Rochefortia Sw.
Effects Of Climate Change On Communally Managed Water Systems Softened By Shared Effort - Emerald

With changes in precipitation, rising temperatures and the population growth; people are finding new ways to produce hydroelectricity and continue positive active water availability is important. Researchers are making and pairing dynamic systems model of a community and it’s water systems with hydrology models of water sources upland. They are studying how to change in water availability and flow. The use of acequias are coming back, which is like an aqueduct, traveling from upland to agricultural fields for use. The problem is they predict that climate change won't allow enough water for irrigation. That's why they are toying with the idea of new flows and different acequias from different parts upland.

Mutualism between the New Mexico and federal government in the idea of acequias increases water availability and solves irrigation problems. Doing so, softens the impact of climate change and how it will affect the community. Keeping maintain of the acequias will keep up the culture and eliminate any major climate change factors towards the cropland. An acequia will close its gate to make sure downstream communities have sufficient access to the water based on standing agreements made by New Mexico. Even with these new changes, water will still being lost, from 50% to 75% in the next three years.

My opinion on this all is basically, we should definitely find a different way to transport water. It seems like a waste even if it is used for culture, why not turn it into a museum or something.

"Effects Of Climate Change On Communally Managed Water Systems Softened By Shared Effort." Wateronline.com.
Michigan Will No Longer Provide Free Bottled Water to Flint - Will

This article is about how the town of Flint in the state of Michigan since 2014 has been struggling with water quality. In beginning the article talks about how the town of Flint will stop supplying free water bottles to the citizens of Flint. With the water quality meeting federal standards Michigan officials have argued and started to stop supplying free water bottles to the town. Because of the decision many of Flints residents have argued against the actions taken by the Michigan government. Even though the water meets federal standards, the pipes carrying the water can still contain unhealthy amounts of lead. With the lash back to the decisions made, taxpayers have supplied over 350 million dollars to help with the water pipes being replaced.

In my opinion I believe that government officials should try to do more to ensure healthy drinking water to the citizens of Flint. With some people still getting lead poisoning and even kids dying I believe that more needs to be done about it. Know even though health is important, some people believe that supplying water bottles for free and replacing water pipes is starting to get to expensive. In my opinion I think that its not the citizens faults that the water crisis happen in the first place so they should not have to suffer with the bad water quality because of expenses. If this is starting to affect the state's money to much then you should hire a new treasurer because health comes first. So my general belief is that the government should try to make fixing the water pipes and restoring clean drinking water to the town their number 1 priority.

Fortin, Jacey. “Michigan Will No Longer Provide Free Bottled Water to Flint.” The New York Times, The New York Times, 8 Apr. 2018, www.nytimes.com/2018/04/08/us/flint-water-bottles.html?rref=collection/timestopic/Water Pollution&action=click&contentCollection=timestopics®ion=stream&module=stream_unit&version=latest&contentPlacement=2&pgtype=collection.

Swansea Universities biology department was tracking the movement of sea turtles. They found something unexpected deep in the ocean while tracking the turtles. They found "extensive meadows of seagrass." It extends over 12,500 kilometers and holds many species of fish. They Even have sharks as top predators. I think this is really cool. They discovered what the scientist in the article said was a new habitat. They never new that the ocean had grass that deep and they hope to discover more. I think its crazy how we haven't explored the ocean a lot more than we have already. There could be extinct species down there still living or something even new animals! I hope they discover more species and habitats.

From Not Enough to Too Much, the World’s Water Crisis Explained - Molly King

This article is about how places are starting to run out of water such as Cape Town, South Africa. Most water shortages are caused by droughts. Many places have had to shut of water for many hours a day. Another effect of this is since the ground is so dried out when it does rain, the area get flooded because the ground can not soak up the water. An effect of all of the flooding is it cause countries to spend tremendous amounts of money to repair the damages. The article says that possible solutions are planting plants that need a lot of water in water-rich places and having countries that need water to find new water sources.
I think this was a good article. It had a lot of good information. I like how it brings light to issues that people and countries are facing, that many people take for granted. I liked how it showed some of the measures countries have had to take to try and resolve their water shortage issues, because it showed that they are trying to do something about it. Something else that I liked was the diagrams that were on the left side of the page. I also liked the pictures that are about half way down the page of all the different water sources around the water, because it shows what different places are dealing with.

“From Not Enough to Too Much, the World's Water Crisis Explained.” National Geographic, National Geographic Society, 22 Mar. 2018, news.nationalgeographic.com/2018/03/world-water-day-water-crisis-explained/?_ga=2.22524479.509063004.1523974045-295474839.1514998053.

Exposure to the toxic can make you very sick . the exposure can mostly be dangerous to young kids and pregnant women . it can be the most harmful because it could mess up developing brains . child could have lose of IQ and bad behavior . so i feel like everybody should be careful.

i feel like people should try to move from areas like this . for there health because its not safe . also it would be hard for them not to use water because you use it in your everyday life . They think people should be so worried about the home but i still would . 4 million households in the us have children be exposed to high levels .

They've Seen Lots of Droughts, But This One's Different - Arisdelci Hernandez

1976-77 and 1987-19992 people thought they would get normal weather like snow and rain and their lifestyles everything would basically return normal, But they realize things might not be normal again. People are scared because other drought are more different then this one, it much more bigger of a problem. Many people who live in California now see water as scarcity as the new reality. People use up the water too much, Laura Vender say to turned off sprinklers and drained pools and to use water carefully. People are ripping there lawns of and putting gravel or other people are just putting down paint to make there lawn green. Coyotes are even roaming around the day because there really thirsty, it can be crowded and water can decrease soon.

My opinion on these is it smart to turn of the sprinklers and drained pools it can help keep water available for right reason to use it, but if you turn off the sprinklers were is grass going to get it water. These drought might get horrible in the future if there not going to solve it because a lot of people use water to much to wash there hand to flush the toilet to take a bath. Usually some people let the water run while there cleaning there dishes what they can do is they can turn of there sink and while there putting soap on there dishes they can turn on the water and start clean the soap off. Use the water properly because if you don’t in the future it can run out and cause a serious drought.

Copyright © 1996-2015 National Geographic Society.
Copyright © 2015-2018 National Geographic Partners, LLC.
64 Pounds of Trash Killed a Sperm Whale in Spain

64 pounds of trash killed a Sperm Whale in Spain. The research used after the whale’s death shows that the whale died after being unable to digest more than 60 pounds of plastic trash. This trash contained nets, plastic bags, and many different types of bottles. This particular whale weighed 13,000 lbs and that type of whale can reach up to 120,000 lbs. Having these plastic objects in the ocean endangers many different species that live in it and it’s unfair to pollute their habitat. This pollution destroyed the whales digestive system which led to its death unfortunately.

After reading this article I feel that we have to do a better job taking care of our economy, keeping everything more clean/sanitary. We should not pollute places that are needed for many species to survive because that will cause health problems to all. If we can stop littering in the ocean things like this would not take place, and we could prevent this from ever happening again.
