You’ll never go wrong with Alphabet Scavenger Hunt, a classic game that helps enhance your little ones’ letter recognition, vocabulary, and observational skills.

First, write out the letters of the alphabet on stinky notes or paper and ask your child to find objects that correspond to each letter. For example, “A” could be an apple, “B” could be a book, etc. For younger kids, you could include small pictures of objects or items alongside the letter to help them along. Celebrate their success as they find each object.

Teachers can incorporate vocabulary into a read-aloud, first by reading through the book and identifying vocabulary words to be targeted for instruction. Preteach the vocabulary words to the students, and during the read-aloud discuss their meaning by providing brief, student-friendly definitions

Multiple meanings

Many words have more than one meaning. While sitting at the dinner table, choose a word and brainstorm as many meanings and uses for the word as you can think of. Some words to start with: spring, frame, check, light.
