The plant life mainly consists of coniferous evergreen trees that tolerate cold winters and short growing seasons.
This biome is considered subarctic and the climate is very cold. While precipitation is relatively low, plant life is constricted more by temperature rather than precipitation.
This biome is mostly found between 50 - 60 degrees north in both Northern America and Northern Europe. And it is found at an elevation of around 3,000 ft.

Because of the cold temperatures and low precipitation the decomposition rate is relatively slow. In addition to that, the needles from evergreen trees have a low nutrient content. Thus the soil in this biome is lacking in nutrients.

Coniferous trees are the main type of flora such as pines, spruces, and firs. The coniferous needles can withstand cold subfreezing temperatures. There are some deciduous trees such as birch maple and aspen. All of the deciduous trees drop their leaves before subfreezing temperatures and grow new leaves quickly during the short warm season. Overall this biome is not good for agriculture, but it can support some species of trees.
